from http://www.nzafl.co.nz/News/WellingtonTigersNationalChampions/tabid/350/Default.aspx

"The Wellington Tigers have broken Aucklands seven year hold on the National Provincial Championship with three wins from as many games at Parrs Park over the October long weekend.

In the closest championship on record all four teams competed at a level that could have seen any one of the teams take 2009 honours.

Six games overall for the weekend with four games being decided by a solitary goal. Moving into the second day, undefeated teams Wellington and Auckland came up against each other in a match that saw Wellington lead for the duration with Auckland fighting back in the last quarter to finally take the lead for the first time. With one minute remaining Wellington scored the fnal two goals of the match to secure a long awaited victory."

I think there are some wafl games left between the local wellington afl teams check www.nzafl.co.nz it has all the info :) I think there will be a media conference in the near future with the details of the hawks deal. A Provisional NZ team was selected from the players at the NPC tournament but i don't know when/where if they will actually play some games.

yes, i went on there but the fixtures list has no venues or times

obviously the players know how to get the info they require, i was just suggesting that since you are a YF member you could use this forum to promote upcoming games

i.e. feed the info to the masses

Since the early eighties.  Plenty of years of pain before the recent glory.

Came from the year I lived in Aus in 1983.  Likewise my West Adelaide support in the SANFL.

Question:

If it's the South Australian National Football League, how is it South Australian and National?

There's an under 16 grade in CHCH. Is there something similar in Wellington?

I played Aussie Rules over here for 8 seasons, and can confirm it is great game! It has way more in common with soccer than it does rugby imo (apart from a few obvious things - no offside, egg ball, more contact allowed), and it's physicality, whilst pretty full on, isn't as bone crunching as league or union.
