Nah man, you can't beat 80s hi-fi systems for reliability and sound quality, at least not for a reasonable price.

If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Nahhhh Bose ftw

So this...

I just got an 80s technics turntable from a friend to play me records, and it's fantastic. They don't make sh*t like that anymore.

Hooked it up to a modern amp I picked up, but had to use an old Technics one as a 'pre-amp' to get it going. Working a treat and the sound is great.

I love Technics.

My mate who works with all that stuff told me that Panasonic (who bought technics) are now resurrecting the brand and bringing out new Technics models, because people love it so much.

Ended up getting  a Sony mini/micro/macro/tiny system from their closing down sale, teamed with a Project Elemental t/t and Phono box... takes up next to no room, and everyone's happy (by everyone, I mean Mrs Surge).

Sounds decent too!

The Affectionate Punch by The Associates

When I bought the album, at the time of release, I played the whole thing through and thought it was genius.  I didn't play it again until a couple of weeks ago.

It was released in August 1980.

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's living in Agadez, Niger.  Spending more time in town, Agadez, as bad people in the desert are spoiling the good life.

Ella Fitzgerald, a 3 CD set called "Simply Ella". It proves Don Mclean was correct when in American Pie (The song C-Diddy, not the movie) he referred to the lady that sang the blues was when she passed away, as well as the obvious Buddy Holly reference.

New album from Kurt Vile and Courtney Barnett.

Pretty decent.

Vile's vocal delivery reminds me a lot of Stephen Malkmus from Pavement.
