bookies say Storm, and i concede they are deserved favourites- but heart says Eels to ride in on the back of Hindmarsh, Moi Moi and their audacious off load count

Media release for immediate release

Sundays NRL Grand Final heralds launch of Wellington Parramatta Fan Club- The Ersatz Eels

This Sundays Australian Rugby League Grand Final between Parramatta Eels and the Melbourne storm will herald the launch of a new light hearted supporters club: the Erstaz Eels.

Founder Craig Ireson says I became a league follower in the 1980s, when the greatest Parramatta Eels dynasty was in full swing. Some of my family had moved to West Sydney in the great kiwi migration to Oz, and they sent back Parra merchandise such as premiership pennants. I fell in love with them like the ultimate fair weather fan., thinking theyd hold the title for years ahead. Little did I know that after their 1986 premiership there would be a  drought of 23 years. Eels fans are probably amongst the most deluded in all the world of sport, there is the usual end of season push for the finals which gets the hopes up, and then the inevitable capitulation. 2001 was typical, entering the Grand Final as favourites before being blown away by the Newcastle Knights.

This season is probably no different, despite their blistering form I am healthily sceptical about the result, and am happy enough that the eels are still in with a sniff

Other long suffering fans are welcome to join Craig at Bar Edward Newtown, on Grand Final Sunday for the launch of the ersatz eels -Wellington Parramatta Supporters Club.

This is not a fan club just for league boffins, it is for all sport fans who find it ironic that 70 kilogram weaklings get enjoyment yelling up the guts at 110 Kg monsters like Fui Fui Moimoi. In fact Craigs actual experience of league was a dozen or so games as a startled ten year old for Rotoruas Central Club where he was instructed by the brick sh*thouse Maori boys to go hide on the wing and not drop the pill if it happened by chance, to venture out that way.

Nor is it simply for Parra fans- supporters of all clubs are welcome, as are Melbourne Storm fans. Turn up in your club colours and watch the real fight of the century!

Motto: Up the Guts! (Alternative motto: Give it to Jarryd!)

I have never been a huge fan of Melbourne, but I absolutely hate Parramatta and I hate Hayne.  So a Storm victory will go down a treat.

Storm should have too much class.

I hope the Eels win but I have a feeling the Storm will have too much class. Hopefully Hayne can do something ridiculous though. The man is a freak of a talent.

for Melbourne maybe
it was still a great game, almost unbelievable the way Manly just piled on the points.

many commentators are saying it is fuel to the fire for Melbourne in 2009- it'll certainly be on their minds

Melbourne will win. Don't gain nothing from 4 grand finals.

I want the Eels to win though. Even if I love billy slater, after all, he did do this: lolGangsta!2009-10-02 20:27:50

I must say as a neutral fan it was a great second half boring first half, but if that idi** of a ref had got that call right i could have seen the Eels scoring an epic warriors style last second try. Besides the poor reffing the Storm were the more consistent team on the night hence they won.

boohoo- agree first half was pants, Eels looked like they had stage fright ala 2001-

so much for their vaunted defence.

but the second half resurgence means they won't die wondering, to use a commentators cliche, they chanced their arm and gave it a go,Fui Fui scored a stunner in the second, that was pure power and pace as wel, but the Storm were far too organised and clinical.

But i had a good time, & was proud of what the Eels achieved after finishing 8th.

now stay tuned for Mad Monday hijinks hitting the news

That's a shame, really. It would have meant so much more to the people of Parra than it does here.

Ain't that the truth. The Melbourne Herald Sun even got the final score wrong!
