World Environment Day

5 June 2008

Kia ora Fellow YF members,

Along the lines of the community directory this is a great place to update people as to what other YF members get up to when theyre not diddling around on this website

So I am please to announce that since Culture Kicks Football Festival finished I have been working on some events for World Environment Day, June 6 2008.

The name is a misnomer it is actually a week + of events, seminars and exhibitions.

Here is the background- next post will highlight some of the key events- virtually ALL of which are FREE!

World Environment Day

5 June 2008

For the first time, World Environment Day is being hosted in Wellington, New Zealand.

World Environment Day is a United Nations event that is observed annually on 5 June in more than 100 countries. Its aim is to focus public attention on the state of the environment, and to encourage people to take better care of the environment.

The theme this year is climate change with a focus on moving towards a low-carbon economy and lifestyle. Kick the CO2 habit is the international slogan.

The day is being led by the Ministry for the Environment on behalf of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

There are a number of exciting activities and events happening around the city to celebrate World Environment Day, including concerts, lectures and debates, guided walks, tree plantings and exhibitions. We encourage you to support these initiatives, and to get involved.

To keep up to date, see www.wellington.govt.nz or call 499 4444.

 or the official website: www.world.environment.govt.nz

1) I don't believe in Karma.

2) I don't understand what relation my thread and the post I made on this one have.

3) I believe that Global Warming etc. are ways for governments to unjustly scam us out of money. And because I believe its unjust I will bag the hell out of it.

4) the slogan is "Kick the CO2 habit". In otherwords, lets make bio fuels instead of petrol. Bio fuels made out of Corn and Wheat that people survive on. So what your telling me is that we should kill people's livelihoods so we can run our damn cars!?

5) Just to make clear the organisation that helps about as much as dirty undies is the UN.

1) I don't believe in Karma.-who does, apart from Earl Hickey- actually i don't believe in him either

2) I don't understand what relation my thread and the post I made on this one have.

Well, i posted a thread in good faith to let people know whats going on, as per the purpose of this forum (See Lonegunmans big topic earlier in off topic)- i come back to post more details and first reply is negative- seems funny since you posted such a nice, positive story before.

Thanks for adding to the debate though Pure Genius-perhaps nobel laureate Dr Rajendra Pachauri could learn from a 16 year old- after all- the children are the future and all that

The other purpose of this forum is to have discussion and debate. This forum would be dead boring if everyone was "happy, clappy, Oh I have to be nice and not say anything that might upset anyone else".

Now don't get me wrong I'm not going out to insult people with dull name calling etc. (note that the only insult I made was at the UN) however if I believe something is unjust or wrong I'll tell you.

if you want a real debate with the UN or other soundthinking intellectuals and shakers go to the Sound Bites Lecture at Illot Theatre on Friday 6 and Wednesday 11 June- there an open mic at the end that would welcome your opinions

I think there may be an element of falsehood in this statement.
