Aite, got this idea off another forum but thought it might work on here..

Basically any member can form a "yf political party" by creating a thread about their party (where they would announce their policies and there MP list and answer questions, and of course lie through their teeth!).

Each party can have members, who can be spokespeople on certain topics.

Then on November 8 yf members can vote for the party they want to "elect" and the winners get the (not-so) coveted title of "YF government" and their
leader becomes "YF Prime Minister"

I am so completely over the election that if too many threads appear I'll just delete them.

Keep this in mind.

I just hope everyone who can, gets out to vote. No excuses to moan if you can't be arsed voting. Ok, we all know that people who run for Parliament seem to go on a "sell-out" course once they win their seat and become just another cog in the big machine, but I live in hope that one day we might get a sincere, sensible, honest, trustworthy, genuine, truthful, mature MP. But to be honest, that discounts about 115 out of the 120 already.

I'd like to see MMP replaced with STV and get rid of party lists. If people are not voted in by their consituents, doesn't that give them the message the public don't want them. but Party lists are a "get out of jail free" card and are holding this country back. You could run New Zealand with a board of 12 people. Divide the country up like the cricket people and have two persons per electorate.

I agree with abolishing List MPs.  Why should idiots like Michael Cullen be allowed to be a Cabinet Minister because he's No.2 on the party list.  Not very democratic.  The people didn't vote for him.  At best, the party leader & president draws up the list.  Maybe change the rules so that only constituent MPs can serve on Cabinet.

Because people voted for his party, and because he earned his high standing on the list through his service to that same party. People who voted for the party knew he was number 2 on the list, so voting for the party was a vote for him, and every other person on the party list. Simple. And democratic.

So how do you explain Cullen's 2nd ranking?

That's not really the point - what matters is that a vote for a party is a vote for their policies and for the personnel they put forward on their list to put those policies in place.
