I don't think they'd take the league, but they'll certainly cause other teams problems, the english lads they have playing for them are top quality.

Also, I'm sure if you asked Steve he'd tell you he's the junior Phoenix coach, not Lower Hutts coach haha.

How does he reconcile that with coaching Lower Hutt?

I've seen a few of the Cap Prem teams in the last couple of weeks and I think Petone have looked the best. Upper Hutt were good too. I think VUW will struggle, and Wests will take a while to find their feet which could see them in some trouble.

yea, i heard one of the subs for Wainui say only 4 starters from last year were on the field.

I wonder how many players this new coach has bought in and where have Wainui got the funding from? Graham Watson grants?

When I saw Petone they were a very good young side. Short sharp in possession. Seemed very Wests in their shape and build up. They will go well in Prem. Someone was saying they have been training since November!

Petone and Upper Hutt play a "friendly" crossover game this Sunday but I suspect both coaches will take the opportunity to make some changes so not to show their hand before the season proper starts.

The following Sunday Lower Hutt play Upper Hutt which could decide the winner from Group 2.

They have a private funder, a successful real estate agent.

Heard a dirty little rumour that kapiti are pulling out of Hilton...any truth to this? Surely the nui haven't got them scared they're not that good!

Very interesting about Kapiti. Regarding the Nui a little bird told me the English lads aren't they only players they have coming over too. Going to be an interesting season ahead.

Come, friendly bombs, and fall on Nui!
It isn't fit for humans now,
There isn't grass to graze a cow.
Swarm over, Death!

Only one round to play and plenty of possibilities on who will get to the final of the division 1:

Group 1 has Vic (7), Seatoun (5), Petone (5) and Tawa (4) in the mix.

Seatoun play Tawa

Petone play Wests A

Interesting note Petone are going to Napier the weekend of the final so might not be available to play in the final if the results go there way.

Group 2 has Lower Hutt A (9), Upper Hutt (6), and Wainuiomata (6) in the mix

Lower Hutt play Upper Hutt

Wainui play Wests B

Hilton Petone Results for 17 March: Division 1, Group B:

Wainuiomata def Western Suburbs B :   13 - 4

Upper Hutt City def Lower Hutt City :  7 - 1

Wainuiomata, Lower Hutt City and Upper Hutt City all on 9 Points. Upper Hutt City appears to sneak into final on +1 goal difference.

Is the Hilton becoming a bit of a joke as a preseason tournament? Teams pulling out, teams fielding masters sides and a bulk of top sides no longer bothering to enter? Is there any value left in it?

1 of Wainuis English import scored 5 yesterday in 25mins he looks class. Nui have a few out injured aswell..

That 10 goal thriller in the Tawa vs Seatoun game would have been a good watch

Permalink Permalink

No surprises they scored 13 goals considering 50 would of been the average age of the Wests backline.

Ifill showing his class yesterday by going studs up through a 17 year olds leg, somehow escaping with only a yellow card (ref was obviously too frightened to red card him) and then in the ensuing aftermath saying “if I wanted to break his leg I would have”.

Give it up if you can’t keep up anymore buddy.

completely agree it was an awful tackle and I apologised to all staff and the player concerned.

The point I was making to the staff was that if with my experience I really wanted to hurt the lad I certainly could of it was a sliding tackle and not 2 footed.

Glad the player was ok to continue he certainly looks like he has potential and was definitely too quick for me!

Well good on you for fronting up and accepting the challenge was bad mate.

I’m not sure your “point” needed to be repeated though, or mentioned on the field. We all know the experience you have.

Nice to have you on here "Legend".  Any update on the injury from anyone? Stuff happens from time to time Sometimes intentional like Keane at Manure but mostly not. No one really likes to hurt someone unless John Terry's been banging your wife but...

Go Upper Hutt!!

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Thanks

Yeah no malice just poor timing and technique from me.

The young fella was all good he got up and played out the rest of the game and even gave me a taste of my own medicine which was good to see!

How did the short distance derby go last night?

3-3 draw, Wests/Ole up 3-1 before Wainui/Ole scored two late on. Must have changed the squads around at half time!

According to those that played last night, Can anyone confirm the Wainui/ Wests rumours?
