Starting very soon so figured I'd start a thread for some early Capital footy banter

Interesting to see Wainui enter two teams. We(Seatoun) have their "b" team up first.

Not great signs for KCU pulling out of the top division. Wonder what the reasoning was? They were in a tough pool but would've been a good test for their year ahead in Cap Prem.

I wouldn't read too much into it - it's happened before. They'll be ready for Cap Prem come start of season ..

Probably more along the lines of travelling from Kapiti for Monday night games is difficult.

I think they have just grabbed anyone they can from the Nui for this team

Not much talk on this thread this year,  Not much interest in Hilton cup anymore?

Local football as a whole seems to have a strong element of meh about it this year.

I'm not sure why that is though...there's loads to talk about:

Besim at Olympic: big Bes comes back to coaching after a hiatus...how will he go? Better or worse than he is at picking Champions' League multis (very poor).

Easthope at Karori: how will that work out?

Petone: some interesting moves...the only Pickering still playing moves to Stop Out (scandalous!) but rumours of a few handy signings including Henry Fa'arodo.

Rapa: who will coach them? Will that coach play?

Upper Hutt: Steven Thomas heads to the Rapa (his dad's on the committee), Chris Campbell retires to social footy, and Sam their young keeper goes to Petone. Double relo for the bogans?

Waitt at Island Bay: could be interesting as well...

Wellington United Phoenix Academy FC: aka WTF United?

Wiremuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu at Miramar, Lloyd O'Keefe at Lower Hutt...there's HEAPS interesting going on.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Agree, heaps happening with movement etc. Maybe still a bit early but does not see to be the same levels on Banter?

They actually are 14 some of them. Some of Jords' mates were on the bench.

We ( Nae ) had a tight loss 1-0 to Tawa B.

Watched some of the Wests B vs Wainui A game after. Wests B looked ridiculously sharp, some very handy players. At least 4 of their goals were screamers.

Has the Hilton lost a bit of glamour due to the games being spread around the region? better I guess for the players not so much for spectators... I used to enjoy being able to watch three first team games at once...... on dust.

I haven't been directly involved with Petone for the better part of a year but my understanding was the town based clubs favoured having the rounds split between Wellington and Hutt Valley so it has been kept.

I feel the same as you in some ways, I liked going down on a Sunday and watching games at two timeslots. At the same time if Wellington based teams aren't participating because of the travel component then there isn't much point keeping it centralised.

My hope is it will go back to a central tournament again in the future but only time will tell.

A good game between Olympic and BNU yesterday. With Olympic blowing the score out with a goal right at the end to win 4-1. A ripper of a start to the second half got Olympic out 3 nil, with Sam Blackburn scoring an absolute peach past yours truly.

Not a good day for Chaz though, missing a penalty and getting a straight red after clipping our wingers heels when through on goal.

Island Bay beating Lower Hutt 2-1 as well was a great result played next to us.

IBU 6 nil over Brooklyn
IBU B 6-1 over Stop Out B in Div 2 Quarterfinal.

Stop Out 3 nil over Olympic.
Petone 7 nil over Olympic B.

Any other results out there?

Seatou went down 4-1 to Petone B this evening. Positive perfomance for us despite the scoreline, but lots to work on before 3rd April!

IBU are a good side. Actually amazed that they haven't won Cap Prem recently. So up and down during the season but have a tonne of depth

Goddamn we were pants in that game. 3 nil down after 10 minutes is never a great look. *enter poor defense* We have a lot of new players and still working on formation etc etc. But is true, some new blood at the club has really made us look a lot better than last year. Also thankfully found a real goalie to replace my running away arse

probably come back to bite me, but I was underwhelmed by IBU. Thought they were entirely average. Ferrier their main man by quite a bit. Marist are terrible.

IBU looked much better last week, looked average today against Marist. They love to play the ball around at the back before a long ball cross pitch to there bald guy on the wing to attack.

I'm an optimistic pessimist.
I'm positive things will go wrong.

Upper Hutt v Olympic B had 3 sent off, 2 for UH and 1 Olympic. First was UH Goalkeeper for a DOGSO tackle outside the box, then 8 minutes later replacement UH keeper sent for DOGSO tackle bringing Olympic player down inside the box. UH out field players goes in goal and makes great save to stop penalty kick from Luci who was on a hatrick. Olympic player sent for 2 yellows second for handling the ball as UH was attempting to throw the ball to his team mate. Game finished 2 all very entertaining.

Oh and feverish, nice try with the IBU baiting. But I'm happy for you (and others) to underestimate them. Looking forward to the usual first up grudge match. It usually produces entertainment in some form and will be a good early stake in the ground from two 'new' coaches.
