2016 Chatham Cup
So according to HORSEHEAD 6-1 is a embarrassment so Three kings should be berated for their efforts in the cup?
my thoughts is that Birkenhead are the underdogs for the final and i hope they get the support of all the other clubs as waitakere city have dominated auckland football for a few years recently.
and unlucky three kings you made it to the semis and thats not easy.
yes 6-1 is an embarrassment you are quite correct. You have shown again your lack of insight by trying to claim waitak as favourites even though they are in the second division. Numpty
Waitak 3 times winners and finals appearances 1999,2004 and 2013 of chatham cup
Waitak gave 3 kings a 6-1 embarrassment "according to your standards" who are near the top of the top premier league and Waitak have not lost a game in there own Div 1 (not second div) just below the top premier div this year.
Burkenhead have a quarter final loss to lower hutt and have just managed to get into the top league in the last few years.
so Waitak in my opinion has had some form history in auckland and are favourites in my opinion.

You cant even spell BIRKENHEAD so maybe numpty is correct. And for your information Birkenhead have been in the top league for many years and only lost in the semi final last year on penalties. Having said that Waitakere CITY have very little form in the premier league as they usually finish in the bottom half. They did get relegated last year but have had a good run this year and been promoted with games to spare, but Birko also beat 3 Kings the previous week in the league.
Not that it really matters but I think anyone that knows anything about the NRFL would have Birko as firm favourites. But this is cup football and even I know that anything can happen on the day......
One thing I can be pretty sure of though, is that it will probably be the biggest crowd at a Chatham Cup final in many years and it will be all red and white!!
I would prefer to see Birko do it but having watched both teams a couple of times this year my pick would be Waitakere by a whisker. They are Div 1 but with a squad capable of doing very well had they been in the Prems and they are playing some lovely football from what I've seen. Should be a very good game.

From my very limited time watching Birko I think their midfield is not as strong as their defence. They break well but I do not see them as a fantastic passing side. Will get along to the final though, should be good to watch

Yes I agree the defence is very strong but I do think that since the mid-season arrival of Sam Burfoot and with Dan Morgan now fit (after a long injury spell) they look very strong across the park. I havent seen Waitak play this year but do know some of their players and am looking forward to a cracking game

I have watched them several times this year - for me their strength is their midfield - Burfoot, Morgan, Jack might fly back, Salter, Boss. If they have a weakness it's probably in the centre forward position, Jarrod Smith is very good but lacks a bit of x-factor and Ethan has buckets of x-factor but is a bit of a risk in terms of getting a silly booking or two. In the game against Miramar apart from a 15 min spell in the second half Birko looked reasonably comfortable. They were going pretty direct at times to Smith and the winger early from deep so was hard to see just how handy their midfield was.
I would also say Waitakere's strength is their midfield - Butler, Rhodes and love him or hate him Hago combine well.
It's hard to pick a favourite but pressure plays a big part and while this is Birko's first final they have something like 160 Chatham Cup games of experience across their team and they have constantly been under pressure this season, while Waitakere have been able to stroll some games in an slightly less competitive than expected NRFL Div 1 league.

Plus, haven't their core players recently won some major international 5-a-side cup final or other? Not that it got any coverage here....

i am hoping for a good game as well and the team that plays the best to win with no penalties
i being in wellington cannot get to see either team play and can only go on reports and data available from web.
This info and data show wiatak have had some success while Birk have been a good development club and has not had the same exposure to finals football like there opponents.
and i again will put my preference for the Birkenhead team to change the info and data books and pick up the win from there first final appearance .
but i think waitak are the favourites by a small amount.

Where exactly are you looking for this info?
Waitakere have been in relegation battles in NRFL Prem the last couple of years - finally went down last year (best thing for them IMO) and now have built a good team and are bringing the youth through rather than relying on Waitakere Utd players coming back.
Birko since being promoted in about 2012 have been in the title chase most seasons, have made the Quarters and Semi's of the Cup in the previous two seasons, they have a very stable core group of players including a group that have won Napier a couple of times and some players who have won the ACFC tournament a couple of times - they are in my opinion the definition of experienced in pressure situations.
It doesn't really matter to the players who the "favourite" is - but at least portray something close to the facts about these teams.
Having never won anything at Senior level they can hardly be described as "Experienced in pressure situations"???? Not of winning them anyway.
Choked quite a few times in last year few years maybe they will finally get over the line for once

fair enough - I'm not part of Birkenhead by the way, far from it.
Waitakere have probably two of the more experienced players in Butler and Nicholson but while birko have not won anything at senior level almost their entire squad has experienced Cup Quarters and Semi's and the pressure that goes with them in the past two seasons.
The old saying goes you have to experience loss before you can appreciate what it takes to win - I think Birko fit that perfectly.
Anyway point was that someone above was saying Birko had not done much in the last couple of seasons which is far from fact.

Im aware you have nothing to do with Birkenhead and your allegiance is very much with Ellerslie.
I just dont get this whole Birkenhead are great thing that yourself and Enzo among others seem to tell everyone.
As for not done much in last few years I guess it depends on what you consider "Done something" to mean?
If you mean winning a couple of 40 min game tournaments as doing something.
Or actually winning something at senior level

It's a good club with a nice atmosphere that I always enjoy spending time at. As a fan it's a place I want to go to. I admire the way they engage their juniors, and there's always a good crowd there. When I post about them my blog stats go through the roof which makes me happy but also tells me they have a lot of supporters. What I just don't get is why other clubs knock them. As Danny Donegan told me when I went on a bus trip to Hamilton with Glenfield a few weeks ago: “Most people who complain aren’t affected by it... if you don’t like it by all means take the moral high ground and take pride in your club but don’t knock others... it’s not affecting you so don’t judge them.”

so winning the premier league is the only thing that counts then?
Na not for me - the premier league is so diluted by money over the last 3 or 4 years that while the best teams have often won the league it's not often the best clubs doing it.

Despite Belt’s fighting talk, Waitakere will go into the match as slight underdogs as Birkenhead are regarded as one of the better sides in the NRFL Premier League while the west Aucklanders have spent this season earning promotion from Division One.

Three kings not bad either and lost 6-1.
so please remember this is a knock out cup and it has a life all of it's own.
I would love to see Birkenhead win it. I bet if they do they give a nod to the late Duncan Cole who helped build the clubrooms.

Average game so far in terms of the football. Both teams misplacing a lot of passes. Looked like they struggled to adapt to the pitch after it had been watered before kickoff.
The referee has been way too much of a factor in the game for me as well. 2 bookings inside 2 minutes and then went thru a period where he forgot he had cards. Looked like he was trying to hard to stamp his mark on the game.
If John Rowberry is the best referee available for this final I will eat my hat.
I will quantify it and say maybe he is nervous and or having a bad game, it can happen to players so it can happen to referees.
Well that was a turnaround.
Soft, soft penalty.
Two great games so far this afternoon in terms of drama, if not quality.
Agree but there is a middle ground between letting it go and a card especially in the first 2 mins of the game. It's just a bit of game management.
Must say Manickum has been integral to Waitakere's attack today, hasn't looked bad at all (maybe a bit one footed) and managed to get a goal with a scrappy follow through finish.

Or dosnt consistently in this game
Its 10 v 12, very soft penalty, he tripped over the ball after minimal contact, then a very fair 50/50 shoulder to shoulder and off he goes!
