Given those criteria you listed, he could justifiably be sent off. At the time I thought it was a fair call, one of those ones where most referees would send him off, but occasionally another might have given him a yellow on another day.
The second and third bullet points apply for this situation. He pushed him and didn't really attempt to play the ball.
