Two defaults in the Northern region.

I can imagine why Otumoetai didn't feel like having their arses handed to them by Eastern Suburbs on such a miserable day; but why did Fencies pull out of their top-of-the-Conference clash with Norwest? Thus incurring a default fine on top of their entrance fee?

Only had nine available, not sure why.

still 9 can play - I played a game when we had 7 v 11 once (and we won 1-0!) seems an odd decision to make when the default fee is $10k or does NZF not really enforce that?

Yes saw the keeper off her line and slotted home from around 35 metres out.

upto $10k and a potential ban for next year as opposed to a fixed $10k.

Only 14 Northern Region entries hemmed them in with regards the draw and mismatches.  Ideally all the NRFL teams would've had a bye, and the lesser teams would've at  least played their way into a potential mismatch.

NZF probably need to look at ways to make it more attractive for the lower ranked teams to enter.  Perhaps team from lower division should be given home advantage.

Wellington United pretty comfortable 6-0 over University. Clinical performance from them, didn't create a ton of chances but took pretty much all of them. At the other end Uni were probably good for a goal or two but didn't take any chances, story of the season really. Well done to WU, hope you go far in the cup!

Ouch. Wanderers went through Western Springs for a shortcut 5-0 in round 2. Katie and the girls will have a fight on their hands. Was hoping we'd get Norwest or Papakura but no such luck.

Tough for Karori. Would have like to see them v one if the other two options to see where their level sits.

Beating seatoun is mandatory, rather than an accolade this season.

so given it was only 2-1 says something

They are OK team but not really near the top 3 (United, Rapa & Upper Hutt) in the W-League

I was hoping they'd get Upper Hutt as having the Barrot sisters playing against their old club would have been a good angle to write about

Although quite a few years ago, both Ronisa Lipi and Hope Gilchrist used to play for Karori.

Agree that karori would be 4/5 if there was a 7 team W-League.

How about you give them back for this game to even it up

Round 3 of the Kate Sheppard Cup is on this weekend 23/24 June

SATURDAY 23 JUNE

Upper Hutt City (WL) v Wairarapa United (WL), Maidstone, KO 12pm

One meeting between these clubs in the cup, Rapa won 9-0 in 1999 on their way to the final. Last years semi finalists, Upper Hutt have been struggling with a small squad this season, while Rapa have taken their position as main challengers to Wellington United.

Both league games have been close, a 1-1 draw and a 1-0 win to Rapa

PICK : Rapa - I've been picking against the Upper Hutt men's team so much that the club has asked me to keep doing it, as I have always been getting it wrong, so if I pick Rapa here, same thing should happen for the women right?

SUNDAY 24 JUNE

Waterside Karori (CP) v Wellington United (WL), Wakefield, KO 1pm

First meeting of these clubs in the cup. Both teams unbeaten in their leagues. Expect Karori to put up a good fight but it won't be enough for Wellington United who should have Mickey Robertson and Jayme Lee Hunter playing and if not they will have to settle with Jemma Robertson (pending injury) and Dani Ohlsson as well as Susan, the Dutchie from PEC Zwolle

PICK : Wellington United

Dunedin Technical too strong for Canterbury Univerites winning 7 - 1. Sounds like exam time robbed both of the student sides players for the games.

They have two don’t they? OtagoUni apparently had 5 regulars and some players from their thirds, gotta wonder why they bother entering.

More like at least half a dozen, if not more.. Most of whom were available (by the sounds of it, some chose to delay departure for student holidays)

About 60% of it.

Missing 8 of the regular 15 person squad, which resulted in 7 players being called up

Definitely not their strongest side.

Well got first one right, Wellington United  came from behind to beat Rapa 3-1

Rapa scored (Anna McPhie) after 4 minutes and that seemed to panic Wellington United, who despite the majority of possession only managed three shots on goal. 2nd half was a different story great headed goal from Dutch import van Dam and two goals to Mickey Robertson Rapa played well, but tired towards the end. First time Wellington United have ever made it to the semi final of the KS Cup (or its previous names)
