Didn't see a thread for this so here we go. Again not many first team sides in the league but will be interesting to see how the reserves go considering the rumors of potentially moving up with CL2.

Anyone got any news on how Greytown, Marist, or TK are looking this year?

Also feel free to talk about some of the other sides from Cap 1, 2, 3, etc.

Saw that Mason-Smith had gone there and a few more english imports. Also saw that they were scheduled to be playing on the Masterton Memorial Turf so big step up in facilities. I liked the new clubrooms at their ground but pitch was quite small, looking forward to seeing a Rapa derby in a few years i hope.

So Greytown playing in Masterton, surely DV should object, hypothetically it would be the same as Karori wanting to play every home game at Wakefield.

They can't really have anything to complain about. They've got their own ground that they played a few games at last season. Greytown are doing the same thing playing a few games at the turf. Im assuming it's all council owned anyway so it's not like they'd have dibs. Where as Welington Olympic and Island Bay have always been based at Wakefield

I see that it's apparently due to cricket still being played at Greytown's pitch.

Different Council's, but both Villa and Greytown share their grounds with cricket

Greytown FC with an expected 5-1 win against TK. Honestly surprised it was only 5 after looking at the team. Will be shocked if they're not in CL2 next year. Guess it depends on whether reserve sides are allowed in CL2 or not next year but you've got to imagine even if the ressies are promoted Greytown would win any playoff.

Looks like it will be a straight shootout bewteen them and Greytown. Greytown's squad looks stronger so I'd say they have to be favourites. They're not flying people in to come second. Can't imagine any other teams getting close to them.

Im looking forward to seeing how a Nelson side does in the North Island! Morris, Tod-Smith, Ifill, SMS, Alex Ward and Bertie Fish all with varying levels of connection to the region.

Early signs aren't promising. In fairness, they've faced Greytown who basically have a Central League side, and Wellington Marist who have been fairly solid since moving up to Cap Prem, I'd give it a few weeks before hitting the alarm.

They were fairly lucky to make it to CL2 in the first place and never looked at that level tbf

Has anyone watched the teams play? From checking tribe, Greytown's team looks outrageous but has anyone seen how they play in person?

Greytown still flying, slight hickup against the Nix, but back to winning ways against Petone ressies.

Also, I know that it's not Cap Prem, but don't think there's a Welly local football forum, but can anyone give me a little debrief on Porirua City FC? I see that they're in Cap 3 this year, after getting promoted from the local leagues. Any idea about what the clubs prospects are?

Porirua City were formed in 1967 as a junior club affiliated to Waterside (I believe they played as Porirua City Waterside) - alot of Wharfies had moved out to the "new" city of Porirua. In 1973 when these juniors had reached the age where they could enter senior football, they did, although as they were still affiliated to Waterside this caused an issue but it was quickly resolved and Porirua City became a senior club in their own right.
They played two seasons in Central League 3 South in 1983/84 and then in 1993 in Central 3.
The last few seasons their senior team, called Porirua City St Germaine, has been around Wellington 1 \ Capital 4 and now Capital 3. TBH That's probably the highest they'll go. They do have a reasonable junior section, but the best players from there will usually head to Wests or the Nix - Ben Waine played his junior football at Porirua City

Thanks! Love the insights, hard to find much history on some of these clubs.

What's up with Stokes Valley? Going into R6 they've only played twice and the two games they have played ended 14-0 and 11-0

Not sure what has happened to cause this, but most of their players from previous seasons have left. A group of them have all turned up at Naenae this season in Cap 2.

Look like they're coach left as well. I'm guessing they just lost a bunch of players and weren't able to replace them at all. Are teams able to drop out of the league if results like this keep happening? What would happen to them?

They would have to turn up where ever the next Stokes Valley team is. What grade are there ressies in?

Surely they will drop out

See Te Kotahitanga are second from bottom in Cap Prem, their whole thing was trying to stop players going to Wellington from the Kapiti/Horowhenua regions but surely players aren't super excited to play for the likely Cap Prem - Cap1 level side? Kapiti Coast were in and around this same level anyway. I'm sure in 5 years they'll be a lot more stable but feels like it isn't really working right now?

I am from the outside looking in so this is probably way off it but would love some more inside info if anyone knows anything.

I’m not in the know but do wonder if there move to Central League 2 was a mistake. I know that league is particularly unattractive to many players given the large amount of travel

Having been part of a Wairarapa squad travelling over the hill every week, travel does make it hard to attract players. Much harder for those with families to disappear for most of a Saturday for footy.

Presumably talking about Casey Diver the club president here.

His concerns are legitimate though. When you're constantly losing by 10+ every game and basically never scoring it's gonna wear on you eventually. Frankly with how they're performing now they might end up struggling in Cap 2 as well

No relegation this year in theory. In practice I suppose it depends what happens to higher division comps.
