A much better start to the season than I expected. Also demoted with me from the first team was one of our centre-backs, who did a stand-up job rustling our backline into some kind of shape. Even the two players who hadn't touched a football since primary school did their job well. Truth be told, we should have won by about 5 goals - just a matter of finishing, and my opposite number being really good. We had something like 20 shots on goal and they had none. Well, unless you count the one-on-one they managed early in the second half, where I had to run out of my box and challenge, the ball squirted past me and just past the outside of the post.

I think we've got the talent to win this league - a bit more training and getting to know each other and we might really start to gel.

It's the only way to teach some of the, er, more physical frontline players a bit of respect. :) On the subject, over in our first team, one of our super ex-Prem new players was actually concussed by the Manukau City ladies. They play for keeps.

A hard-fought duel against my old team and (it turns out) our GRRRIVALS. The score was 0-0 with 5 minutes to play - neither side had been able to break through the other's defence. Our own defence were so hard core I didn't touch the ball once in the second half, and spent all my time yelling at people. Then one winger made a beautiful score from the edge of the box, and two minutes later our striker dribbled it through the entire defence. I felt sorry for my old team but really it could have gone either way.
