Playing for Lynn-Avon is a buzz. I'm suddenly on the same team as many Football Ferns legends, who still have world-class footballing brains if their legs are slightly slower. Distributing the ball to the likes of Maia Jackman is an honour.

Of course we got munted 8-2 by Ellerslie in our first game out, but I dare say we'll get better.

At our level (2nd tier reserves of Northern North Island football), there are two kinds of team: 1) teams of 15 year old wondergirls who're not quite ready for the big time yet; 2) teams of grand old ladies of the sport. I'm kind of happy to be part of the latter - not only to soak up the experience and atmosphere and old war stories, but because frankly aftermatches are no fun when your teammates can't drink.

So we went down 1-0 to the wondergirls of Hibiscus Coast today and I'm relatively happy with that. They outran us - we outthought them. Their goal was stupidly lucky (caught a bobbing breeze), but of course as keeper I'd say that. The younger ladies are quite easy to intimidate into coughing up the ball, so even though they could outrun us 9 times out of 10, we restricted them to speculative shots from outside the box. And we were desperately unlucky not to get the equaliser too.

I got PotD, but only because I was asked who I thought deserved it, I said "me", and they took me seriously.

Which point, the one about us getting better? ;)

no the point about there only being two types of teams.

It is outrageous age discrimination that women's football is scheduled for Mother's Day. We were down to 10 players today having lost those fortunates who were being pampered with breakfast in bed and whatnot, which wasn't a problem for the 15-year-old wondergirls in the opposition. We lost 5-0 and we were lucky to get nil.

3-1 victory for the Ressies over a much improved Pukekohe side today. Those girls were getting 19 and 21 goal thrashings earlier in the season and we actually had to play our best game of the season to put them away. Their keeper was particularly good.

So that means we finish the first round on 7 points, which could have been worse. Having a full team and subs today helped. But the gap between top and bottom in the Conference Reserves astounding. Papakura and Fencibles both went through us to the tune of 10 goals. Some people wanted Reserves abolished, but the improvement of Puke suggests it is helping.

That Puke Reserve team is a very young team who are making a huge step up to play at that level. It was always going to be a tough season for them. They are improving as the season goes on, and have the makings of a decent side if they can be kept together for 2 or 3 seasons.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Reserves held high-flyers Papakura to 3-1, after 10-0 drubbing last time. Interesting Reffing, we got a player sent for swearing, and they got 3 pennos, two of which I saved :)

I'm down to be at Bledisloe on Sunday, so I'll be able to keep half an eye on your game with Pukekohe.

... and Bledisloe is underwater, so postponed. :D

Good warmup in catchup game last night. 3rd win of the season and 2nd against Central. Their coach should teach them more than one tactic, no offence
