Season off,

Halswell are after a new mens coach

In the MPL Western currently lead with the other 6 clubs minus Nelson close behind.. Note, Nelsoon have a game in hand

7-9 on the 29th april John Herdsman is down at English park giving a speech on coaching. www.mainlandfootball.co.nz has more info.

Juniors draw (under 19s down) are up after easter weekend.. expecting boys high and SBHS to dominate in under 19s. .. Stac may come close as will Burnside.. Don't really see any other surprises unless Cashmere put a side together

Us juniors kick off on 26th woo woo!

Uhm not much else that I know of to comment on.. Just that Sunday wimmins is slow as ever.. espc when refn..

And what does everyone think of the new websites for the leagues? ugh right hassle

Get into it cantabs!! if there is any left

Rangers merged up with New Brighton to make Coastal Spirit.. The chelski of Canterbury.. Pretty much play for them and have a GOOD chance at making reps..An old All White keeper is coaching their under 12s but the name escapes me.. He had an arguement with me bc i was allowing a player to stand infront of the keeper.. pfft.

Chch Tech hmm..[checks google] They have also merged .. CHCH tech and Woolston are the two. Now named Woolston Technical based in Linwood..Stu kely played for them/coached them..

AFAIK Coastal are in the top league under MPL and should really dominate. Tech were up in the top league last year... Just checked, second in the Mens Prem League atm.. Thats the top league in Canterbury.. I'm not sure what that equals in Welly?

Burnside are c**ts feverish.

That is probs the keeper..

I think its to do with Rangers fielding ineligable players in the promotion/relegation match with Burnside in 2006 just before the merge.. Other than that I don't know. I wil wait til Vim pops in.

Oh, thanks for thinking of me.

Mr Stroud is the man you speak of, freaking legend between the sticks and coaching a top 12yo team.

Yes there was troubs back in 2007 playoff match against Burnside.  Rangers beat Burnside but lost a lengthy court battle which believe it or not want all the way to the International Sports people in Switzerland or summin.

Coastal will be back in the Prem League in 2010 after laying the smackdown on the most likely contender (Avon) in the Qualifying League on the wknd.  Only thing standing in the way is a dodgey playoff game against whoever gets last in the PL. Currently longstanding champs Nelson!

They're up now, even if yours isn't listed on the front page, you can access it by going into another group and selecting yours from a drop down.  Really random what they are doing with the 11th and 12th grades if you wanna check out the note at the bottom of the page.

did Russell Kamo used to play for Tawa or something?

Form striker Russell Kamo struck with two late goals to give Mainland premier league leader Woolston Technical a poignant win over arch-rival Ferrymead Bays.

Ferrymead coach Steve Bignall felt his side "threw away with four minutes to go" after two costly turnovers at a waterlogged Barnett Park in Christchurch.

But his Woolston Tech counterpart Keith Braithwaite said his charges had a special incentive to clinch victory. They wanted to honour rightback Nick Wortelboer whose younger brother died in a tragic road accident.

"We dedicated that victory to Nick and his family," Braithwaite said. "Nick turned up and played the whole 90 minutes and he was outstanding. In those last 10 minutes there was only one team that was going to win."

Referee Hamish Little played his part in a free-flowing game marred only by the pugginess of the pitch.

Tech came out firing but failed to convert some early chances before Ferrymead grabbed the opening goal. Hue Frame seized on an under-hit clearance from Tech keeper Tom Batty to round a defender and slot his shot home.

His goal sparked a period of dominance for Ferrymead, who led 1-0 at half-time.

Central midfielder Tom Lancaster capped another good game for Tech with the equaliser after the interval. Matt Thomas sprinted down the left flank and pulled back the ball for Lancaster to lash home from the edge of the 6m area.

Canterbury United star Dan Terris put Ferrymead ahead again with a fantastic header from a Denes Zatyko corner.

Bignall felt the Bays were "four minutes away" from a vital victory. "But then we gave the ball away and they equalised, and we gave it away again and they got the winner. They were both well-taken goals but they came from our mistakes."

Kamo tied it up at 2-2 with a left-footed volley and thundered the match-winner into the net.

Tech now has a four-point lead over Ferrymead, Western and Christchurch United after six of the 14-rounds. Bignall blasted the move to a two-round competition "as the worst decision Mainland Football's ever made". "It doesn't give any teams a chance to recover."

A Gerard Brown penalty gave United a 1-0 win over Western at QE II Stadium.

Dan Ede grabbed a hat-trick, including a late winner, in Burnside's 5-4 win over Nomads United at Tulett Park.

Halswell United remain mired at the bottom of the league after a 0-3 loss to Nelson Suburbs yesterday.

Meanwhile, Western remain top of the Mainland premier women's league after a 2-1 win over defending champions Coastal Spirit. Aimee Phillips and Liz Gilchrist scored for Western. An Erin Heine goal gave Halswell United a 1-0 win over Ferrymead Bays.
