Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.
North Wellington played all the football and Karori spent the first twenty minutes stacking the back third and trying to sneak out on the break.
Then they did just that and won their first corner. Which they converted well to take a lead.
Against the run of play just doesn't quite describe it.
With North Wellington's midfield owning that third the Wharf opted to go more direct in the second spell in the hope that Wingback4eva might break into a run.
He didn't and, despite rallying briefly early on in the half, Karori spent most of it chasing shadows.
North Wellington played some tremendous football - knocking it around confidently despite the rough surface. I haven't got any names but their numbers 7, 10 and 3 (when he came on) were quality.
Didn't do them any good though and it looked increasingly like Karori would hold on for the most ludicrously improbable win in football history.
Until the ref stepped in to even things up.
In the 91st minute the Wharf keeper came out with his feet, as was his style, and may or may not have taken down a North Wellington player (I couldn't see clearly but it looked a bit harsh).
Penalty.
Step up Wharf keeper who saves!
But apparently his second step was no good? Whatever that means!
Retake.
Goal.
Full time whistle.
Cue Feverish-style red mist action from Wharfies players and the brandishing of a flurry of yellow cards by the ref (one for the 'use of a sarcastic tone'!!!!!) ending in a Karori player getting a post-match red.
North Wellington blushes savedvin a game they should have won about sixteen nil.
Wharfies terribly unlucky not to get the 3 points they'd scrapped all game for.
Referee: minging.
Superb entertainment though.
If you get a chance to watch North Wellington, do it. Much better than their division would suggest. They play a good passing game but will be vulnerable to anyone who kicks lumps out of them. Mike Parrott is doing an outstanding job by the looks.

what game were you watching? We dominated from start to finish ha ha. Must be something about Alex Moore - I remember a womens game there in which John the fat greek ref had a spot kick retaken about four times in a display i could attach a couple of 'c' words to.
I think I will pass on the coaching in future - as I have less hair after that game yesterday as I did before (if thats possible), and my throat feels like it does after leaving the fever zone.
Our seconds have an off game- but they would own that NW team on another day (especially at the fortress KP).

Right again.

I was involved in that game I believe the final score was 6-2 to University one of their only wins of the season. I thought the first penalty was harsh, it looked to me like you just gave the striker a bit of a cuff as he ran past, that'll teach you! Anyway as I recall their were two players sent off and some action on the bench as well as another penalty for University! Not a great officiating effort.
Anyway the referee for that match was Graeme Hansen and I recall having him again several times in the season and him having reasonable games.
The referee for the North Wellington game last weekend was quite right in giving the penalty and spot-on in having it retaken, the goalkeeper came off his line with two large steps.

If both the goalkeeper, and the attacking teams player have both encroached, then the referee has taken the exactly correct action - the penalty is retaken
When Hibs, went up, to win the Scottish Cup - I wisnae there - furfuxake!

The referee can only look in one direction and they are told to focus on the keeper and making sure the ball crosses the line, encroachment is secondary, so calling it terrible is a bit harsh.

What's more likely to change the outcome of a penalty, a goalkeeper encroaching or a non-kicking attacking player encroaching.
If the ball had hit the post, or the keeper had save and deflected it and the encroaching attacking player had scored - then yes it would be a terrible decision.
But to say it's a terrible decision, when it wouldn't change the fundamental outcome of penalty is a bit over the top, when in reality it's no more than the usual trips, pushes, handballs that occur every match that are technically a foul but aren't given.
