Whats their squad like? Any goss on the other teams

We (North Wellington) are using one of our 2 teams in the grade as a Development squad to introduce our younger players to senior football (The average age of the team is around 18). It's a good squad with some very quick and skillful players just out of College balanced by some older heads so it will be interesting to see how we go against more experienced older guys.

The club as a whole is looking to move forward this year and finally start moving towards where we should be in Wellington Football for our size (24-25 senior teams this year). It's been a good start with the 1sts winning the HP 2nd div comp. Teza2012-04-04 18:09:51

Div 6 stalwarts Uni Stallions are back after an all to brief promotion to div 5 in the off season (I guess another team entered higher up the grades pushing us back).  You want an old squad, we will show you. Mind you the newly promoted Uni Raiders started playing as a team in 1987 I think. Possibly an urban legend. Any Raiders out there?

I think we have you first up, be gentle, don't frighten my boys with uncouth language. they are just delicate young men you know.

Not to pleased about hearing theres a team of 18 years olds in the grade!  Ha ha!  Those are the sorts of teams we don't like.

Dont worry we have a 31 and a 33 year old in the squad to bring that average up and of course being mostly under 20 the boys attention span is only around 1 minute so you may be able to use that to your advantage

I'm using the words fast and skillful when compared to myself of course (I have 2 left feet and am old that's why I'm the coach). Teza2012-04-05 10:42:53

I'm sure U-20s will have a LOT more energy than us old fullas. Bad news is that we may not be able to play on endeavour much this year. Might consider another retirement

Adventure is still better than alot of other grounds around Wellington.  I think we'll still get a good amount of games at Endeavour though.

Ive seen them.
Clarets >>> Lions

More like... North Wellington Cubs. Ha

Uh..

Coach is a laugh too. Not the good kind of laugh.
And he is also a bit of a twat.

I may be appearing in Cap 6 this year. Ive semi retired this year to focus on coaching and not hurting myself so will only be at turf games for the Clarets (As they are late and midweek usually). Bouncing between Cap 6 and 7 hopefully.

Im looking forward to giving Teza some sh*t in this. Takes me back to when I was playing U21 for the warf.

Well done to Uni Stallions.
Good game all round i thought but your greater experience told in the end, thanks for the contest (it looked very warm out there).

Your keeper had a great game as did your centre back. Two cracking goals, one from my guys and a great free kick from your guys.

We will move on from this and hopefully my boys will learn that they have to be a bit more physical.

See you next time at your house, thanks for the game.

Christ and i thought i had a bad day... LH lost 16-2 to Wests

Yeah Teza, thanks, a good way to kick off the season - chasing a highly skilled and damn pacy youth team around a huge field under the hot sun. You definitely played the better football and forced us into a huge and not always pretty defensive effort. Your team will do fine in this grade, I bet they are already looking forward to the return leg with us. Best of luck.

16 goals huh, the gauntlet has definitely been laid down by wests.

Nope it's the old blokes you're playing, the young boys play lower Hutt tomorrow night

Another lesson in physicality for my boys last night, although to be fair we did have a left back as goalkeeper (and he did do well). The Lower Hutt team was I am told completely different from the one spanked 16-2 last week. To much of my young guys trying to dribble through the entire opposition instead of simple passing. Yes they have skill but sometimes its better to pass (any ideas on how to get that into their heads anyone?). The signs are there so it will come together though.

Brickbat for the Ole guys training at Wakefield last night. They had set up cones on the goal line and were running on the field whilst the game was going on. Their coach (tall lanky American guy) was a bit of an arrogant p***k when asked nicely to move away (there was an entire field free), the ref stopped the game to ask them to move, even then they took ages to go. Hope it was a one off and not the sort of mentality they drill into their students.

CF may as well put Wests in Cap2, nobodies going to enjoy playing against them otherwise. 26 goals for in 2 games...

Yeah, sucks the life out of the grade if everyone else is playing for 2nd I guess. We will throw everything /anything we have got at them though.

Stallions a great 10-3 win over Marist. Big local derby against the Raiders this week. They have made a good start too.

We have been asking CF to put us higher up the grades for the last two seasons but all clubs effected have to agree.  I believe we were very close to being put in either Cap 4 or 5 last year but one club refused and so we have been left where we are.

Don't worry, we are old fullas, we'll fade as the cold kicks in and the injuries start clocking up.

More refs banning rolling subs won't help either...

That was our token dwarf.  If you don't score during the season you have to do a nude run after the last game.... he was the only one who didn't score last year so you can understand his joy at getting one early this season.

I'm not entirely sure why we were allowed rolling subs on Saturday, especially when the other team had the bare 11 players.  I would have thought the opposition had to agree to it, not sure if they did or not.

I think my decision to play in cap 7 on Saturday was a good idea.
I haven't had any good feedback about that game, soul destroying was one way it was described.

No Comment Pretzel? 1-1 wests drop points. Sets up a good game top of the table this weekend.

On another note, I watched the Uni raiders play the Uni Stallions last week and saw one of the Yellow Fever backroom staff playing for the raiders. Career move maybe?
