League is now Petone in 1st on 32 points, Waterside Karori 2nd on 31pts with 4 games to go

Petone have

Island Bay United (a)

Lower Hutt City (h)

Olympic (a)

North Wellington (h)

Waterside Karori have

BNU (h)

Island Bay United (h)

Lower Hutt City (a)

Olympic (h)

So Waterside have easier run in, can't see them dropping points. Petone have a couple of tricky ties, derby against Lower Hutt City and last game against North Wellington

so BNU need to win the remaining four games (and LH lose all theirs) with very good goal diff to have any chance of staying up (i.e. none) ??

The winner of the cap prem league will go up to CL.  I don't see Havelock North toppling Petone or Waterside to make the jump.

The Central Federation league title is being contested by 2-3 side max by the looks of it. Havelock, NP Rangers and Wanganui Athletic

Question. If NP Rangers win the Central Federation and are ineligible does the play off spot get offered to the 2nd placed side (Havelock more then likely) or does the Cap Prem winner just get auto promotion.

No one really saw Team Taranaki going up last season

If NP Rangers won the league the playoff spot would go to the 2nd place team.

Current league state is

Havelock North P-11 Pts-28

Wanganui Athletic P-12 Pts-23

NP Rangers P-10 Pts-22

They play 18 games so still a bit to go, but Havelock North have only lost once this season so should do it

Havelock 12 31

NP           11 25

Wanga    12  23

with the two title contenders still to play Olympic this is a decent reason not to have reserve sides in the top league

Safely through Saturday's trip to Manawatu, Jacobs said: "Then we need to worry about our reserves, who are in a bit of trouble in [Capital Premier]." They are ninth, too, albeit nine points clear of bottom-placed Brooklyn Northern United.

"top league"..OK

..and the fact that Wharf have taken 0 out of 6 points vs a reserve team this season?

Seriously though, there are strictly enforced rules around dropping players down, right?

In name, yes, but the capital's top teams don't play in it. Fact.

So tempted to THIS that ;)

And my jibe about Wests was just that, a jibe.

Your point is valid regarding Olympic and ability to influence the league. All I'm saying is that if they play within the rules, fine. If you don't like the rules, change them.

Only two title contenders ?

With both also having to play Lower Hutt who will also likely strengthen, (plus Integration Works Waterside Karori history of being chokers ;-)) I wouldn't discount Ngatiawa Russell Lodge NW just yet.

The reserves teams of Lower Hutt, Wests, Olympic have been influencing the promotion/relegation prospects of all clubs throughout the Season so if within the rules not an issue.

edit: must recognize sponsors !

I am sure Olympic could have a significant say in the outcome of Cap Prem with the CL team now safe and players returning and possibly dropping down.

Come on the Wharfies!  We gave it a good shake in 2005 to get promoted and the club deserves a shot, especially seeing as Upper Hutt and Petone have all played Central League since.

Bet this team drinks less than we did though

I can never get my head around the "regulations" re. promotion/relegation !  so, is it just 1 x team to be relegated from Cap.Prem (this year) ?

".....Petone travel to Wakefield Park to play Wellington Olympic’s reserve team. Olympic sit eighth but are safe from relegation. Karori play Lower Hutt’s reserves on Sunday. Lower Hutt are ninth but also safe...." Capital Football

will waterside choke again?

team Taranaki did well in central league for there first year and avoided relegation so where they really that much better than waterside last year?

it could be a interesting off season of player movements ahead.

Olympic played 1st teamers Mario Barcia, Christian Baz and Sam Blackburn and Gianni Bouzoukis who has only played a few games this season due to a long term injury so will not be graded as a 1st team player as he won't have played 75% of their games

Liam Hyslop wrote a piece in Stuff saying Petone are the latest to suffer from teams dropping players to their reserves - oddly he didn't mention that Lower Hutt did the same thing but lost 3-0 to Waterside Karori.

Fact is if Petone hadn't fielded an ineligible player earlier in the season against North Wellington, they wouldn't have had a 4-0 victory turned into a 3-0 loss and would still be in with a chance of winning the league!

Here is the stuff article

Blew 2, the problem with "watabouterry" is it means that you are admitting that your in the wrong as well.  You can argue for the exploitation of the loophole that is there but end of the day  something does need to change and has needed to be dealt with for years.  I myself exploited some of these rules when I was coaching Wharfies seconds trying not to get relegated from Cap 1 so I am not whiter than white.
