Thanks - new word learnt-

whataboutery (plural whatabouteries) (informal, pejorative)

  1. Protesting at hypocrisy; responding to criticism by accusing one's opponent of similar or worse faults.  [quotations ▼]
  2. Protesting at inconsistency; refusing to act in one instance unless similar action is taken in other similar instances.  [quotations ▼]

EDIT: 2nd thoughts - have not seen it in the Dom Post so is it a real word - Elections 2017

Fact is if Petone hadn't fielded an ineligible player earlier in the season against North Wellington, they wouldn't have had a 4-0 victory turned into a 3-0 loss and would still be in with a chance of winning the league!

While yes we would still be in with a chance we turned out some really poor performances after the result was overturned. Realistically I think Wharfies have been the better side across the season and are worth their win.

As for the regrading of players I'm not overly bothered as long as its within the rules. I'm pretty sure any team would try do the same if they were in the same situation. I hope any potential rule change is well thought out.

Yep if you look at the current string of results, there's nothing suggesting that Petone deserve to be in the playoffs ahead of Karori.

I agree with this stance on regrading. I think there are a lot of club people on these threads posting fake outrage and pretending like their club doesn't leverage the rules in exactly the same way with dropping players to avoid relegation. The questions of morality around this are silly I think. I also think that the more sensible change would be to not allow reserve teams in Cap Prem, as every year this has a flow on effect for all grades in terms of 2 and even 3 team promotion/relegations in different divisions. It doesn't do much to stop the regrading debate though

To take this 1 step further you would have to have no 2nd team in the grade below your clubs top team to a be fair and equal across all clubs. Unthinkable.

The implications of this idea are weird; Wouldn't you end up with the top teams in Cap 1 being the reserve sides, and therefore 4/5th place etc being promoted into Cap Prem?

If that happens then Miramar are the ones with the most to lose. Ironic

I highly doubt it would happen. The reserve teams generally strengthen CPL so it'd be a backwards step to remove them. Unless they went for the reserve league model which is a drastic change (and may still weaken CP)

Fuck this stupid game

The rule needs to be, and is going to be, looked at.

The key problem is that it's there to allow the freedom of (mostly young) players to get regular game time as well as gain experience at the higher level and to also allow an avenue for injured players to get back match fitness, yet it's probably used more often for stacking to get results. And that favours the big clubs.

The modified version will need to address this.

Wests 0 - 1 UH. Scrappy game decided in the 86th minute. Wests looked a little more likely to score most of the game but lacked the final ball. Goal was a corker from outside the box.

seriously are we doing this again? Have a read on stuff today about the young lad refereeing rugby and their referee development managers take on sideline abuse. Some interesting comparisons cam be made to our game too.

Do you think it's appropriate to give a foul and then tell the fouled player to stop diving?? Tell players to stop smirking ? Man handle players. This is what's been happening this year.

probably not, but I am not sure there were any disputable Olympic cards in that game?

Not having thread hijacked again on referees and Olympic (or that may have been Central League thread) but either way take it to the refereeing thread if you want to keep discussing it.

On this thread, I assume Karori will organise some friendlys so they don’t have a couple of weeks off before playing Havelock? When the home/away draw getting announced?

I'm an optimistic pessimist.
I'm positive things will go wrong.
