Table after the 3rd round -

For our game (Petone vs Olympic) it was a heard fought game with a 2-2 result probably being a fair result. Olympic took the lead with just a few minutes to go in the first half with Petone hitting back twice (and own goal and a penalty) to take the lead. A nice cross and cracking header from Olympic in injury time was a bit of heartbreak for Petone after their first win of the season.

A bit of niggle and some verbals again threatened to leave a bad aftertaste but the prescience of an official ref helped the game stay on track.

6 rounds down..a third of the way through the season already!

Petone get their first win of the season with the under-manned Stags still searching for their first point but I hear they ran Petone close, coming back from 4-1 down to get to 4-3 (with their keeper scoring from a corner!) Any other points of interest?

Whats going on in Cap 10 this year. Early days but Wests look like they could go through with 100% record, unless capital football step in with mid-season promotion?

Last year they played in Cap 3, placed second and were going to be promoted, but instead of wanting to play in Cap 2 they chose to play in the next available league which was Cap 10. So as a result the rest of us teams have been fudgeed over and have to put up with a team that wins by 3-8 goals every match.

Pretty unfair to us and I hope at least once one team will not let them get all 3 points.

I am.

I really wish there was mid-season promotion in this grade (to get rid of Wests) but there isn't unfortunately.

Is there not a mid season promotion for the lower grades this year?

We are are second on goal difference in Cap 11, trying to get up, was looking forward to playing some different teams.

According to the regulations (and based on what has happened the last few years) only grades below Capital 11 have the mid-season Promotion/Relegation (With Cap 11 only having Relegation).

Looking at the capital football website, grades down to capital 9 have a draw up until 11 June, whereas 10,11 and 12 only go up to 28th May

So it looks like those 3 grades might get re-jigged, but that will only be relegation from 10, leaving that dominant Wests side stuck in the Grade.

How much fun is it playing 7 divisions down and winning by 8 goals every week anyway? Be a good laugh for the first few weeks to be able to try a few things and score a few goals but surely you want to have a competitive game at some point don't you?

We played them the other week, had them at 1 all at about the 60 minute mark. However we kept losing players to injury. Not long after we only had 9 on the field then got it back to 10 after a player got treated (by another player)
Needless to say they ran away with the game.

yeah can't understand why a team would want to drop down to a grade where they'll clearly win by a large margin every week. Strange.

My predictions for this week's matches:

Home team Result Away team
Olympic Olympic win by 3+ Petone
IBU Pirates Piglets win by 1 or 2 IBU Piglets
UHC Defense Defense win by 1 Wainuiomata Roundballs
Vic Uni Wests by 6 or 7 Western Suburbs
UHC Creeps Creeps by 5 Wainuiomata Halfbaked

The score on the CF says 10 - 1. Officially we (as in my side) lost count at 7 and agreed on a figure, either 9 or 10. They must have added their individual goal telly's together and got 10.

They would most likely have won even if we had all 11 players on the field at the end, but not by that score.

would've thought they'd lend you a player or two, especially given the scoreline.

we had a wests team in our grade in div 7 around 5 years ago that beat us 14 nil - they had been inserted at some lower grade and were romping through the grades getting promoted year after year.  they were full of ex high level players.  is this the same team?  doing the math it would seem likely if they continued getting promoted each year.  if so its pretty ludicrous if they've done it again.

If it's the same team how can Capital Football allow this? Surely one of their responsibilities ought to be to not allow teams to drop this many grades, it makes it so boring and frustrating for the rest of teams. The fact they might be the same team doing the same very thing again is appalling.

Poor effort and lack of effort by Capital Football.

it ain't CF's fault. They chose to not enter Cap2 as they weren't going to get any Ole players and they didn't think they could hack it. Completely their doing. You don't get to pick and choose your grade.

No idea, they seem slow at doing this. Not even notice on whether there is promotion at this stage or not. Hopefully they rejig the grade, it would be awesome to not play Western Suburbs ever again.

I am pretty sure there is a mid season promotion relegation in 10, 11 12a and 12b, although I don't think there will be any promotion out of Cap 10 until the end of the season, so you may be stuck with Wests for the year.

There is a team from Upper Hutt in the Div 12a section that has been winning most games by some margin Pl 10 won 8 D2 GD 42. This is nominally the clubs third team (The third of the three senior teams which train 2 nights a week)  which had to enter in Cap 12 this year. Mostly young guys, under 20

Maybe The Nghthawks need to go to the transfer market to bring in some new Talent to make a push for Central League Domination. If Leicester can etc etc etc

So I play for the Wests team in Cap 10.  It's not entirely accurate to say that we are the team that came second in Cap 3, or even the one that got promoted from Cap 4 the season before.

We started the team as a bunch of older fullas who wanted to play some good footy together.  At the time Wests didn't have a decent 3rd team and so we were stuck in Cap 8 by Cap Football and slowly we worked our way up the grades.  The idea was to get the club a 3rd team in a decent grade and then hand it back over to the club for them to full with youngsters.

As we got higher, more and more of our older / less fit chaps started to drop out until last season when we probably had around 4 or 5 of us starting each week and the rest being made up of 2nd team squad players.  Last season we were playing guys that trained twice a week and were out warming up before we'd even arrive at the ground.  It took until about Wednesday to be able to walk again after each game!  Cap 2 was always going to be to high for most of us as it's all getting a bit serious.

So we handed the team back over to the club and asked if we could be put back in at a lower level, ideally around Cap 5 - 8 which is probably the level we'd now be at.  Unfortunately the club didn't end up having enough players to fill the Cap 2 side so they had to pull the team, and the only vacancy Cap football had was in Cap 10 which has lead to our current situation.

It's obviously not ideal, but kind of out of our hands.

We had a good tough game on Saturday and although the end result was 4 nil, there were some decent players in the Olympic side.  Problem was, 10 minutes into the game their striker was already talking about defaulting the 2nd round game.  The score was nil all and that was already his attitude....

Anyway, bit of a novel but hopefully explains the situation from our perspective.

We've actually picked up a couple this year but been hit by injury (and playing a bit shark).  Tomorrow night, missing a couple our better players could be a challenge for us.  On occasions in the past we may have had to call in a few players from other sides but we have a good size squad this year.

Draw is up for capital 11 and 12, no promotions from cap 11, so looks like your grade is untouched, shame for us though, we get that Upper Hutt side.

Doesn't explain why there is no draw up for cap 10 though

I have no idea about how cap football allocate the divisions and I understand teams can't pick their grade (slippery slope and all that).  but to say there was only a vacancy in div 10 doesn't sound right for this particular season - the current div 6 consists of 5 teams that were div 7 last year & the bottom 2 (including us) who 'should' have been relegated to div 7.  so clearly there'd be a spot there (and other divs) based on the expected promotion / relegation from last year - and that would be due to a bunch of teams in divisions above us (including Wests) pulling out.

just to be clear - I'm not requesting that Wests be promoted to div 6 :).  We'll see you in 4 years for the much anticipated rematch

teams already in competition get priority I guess and if a team pulls out it is a lifeline for a team that may have previously been relegated.

Seems odd the only spot they could find for a promoted Cap 3 team was in Cap 10. We're in Cap 8 and only the bottom 2 teams from last season (us and one other) remained and everyone else seems to have gone up which suggests a number of teams pulling out from higher divisions. The rest of our division has come up from 9 and 10. So surely there would have been space in 7 or 8. We might have even agreed to go down as we had expected after last season rather than continue to lose every week in 8 again. Or maybe one of the teams who have gone up despite finishing in the lower half of 8 last year would have been happy to stay, or one of the teams who were in 10 would have been happy not to go up 2 divisions. Can't believe the only spot they could find was 8 divisions down from where they should have been.

Looks like Capital Football have decided to level out the playing field by scheduling Wests home games on cow paddocks instead of football pitches. Will be interested to see how the tactic goes.
