Thanks,

We played them last year in capital 14 (before we gave ourselves our funky Stormin’ Normans name) and beat them 2-1 and pipped them to the capital 14 round 1 title on goals for, before getting absolutely smashed by them in the second round 6-1.

Are they a team that changed clubs and had to start from the bottom again?

I used to play for Stokes Valley (did last two seasons) but will only be a fill in this year. (That's the team just called Stokes Valley)

I'm an optimistic pessimist.

Yip, thats them

We were a brand new team last year as well, so started off with them, we  were also  just called Stokes Valley as well, but had to change when us, the Other Stokes Valley team and the Destroyers were all in the same grade, so we become the Stokes Valley 14's, and changed to the Stormin' Normans this year in honour of one of our players.

I might have played against you last year.....

yeah you would have, I either would have been the loud mouth in defense or later in the season, in goal.

I quite possibly could have been marked by you, - I play Striker (probably the one that moaned the most)

From Memory you guys had a young replacement keeper when we played your team

Yes we had one of the guys son in goal for a few games when I was out injuried.

Stokes Valley Stormin' Normans had a default win first up

Pretty stink that we weren't informed of University's default until 11am this morning - Feel pretty sorry for the lads, who all turned up

Just found out that Victoria Uni Corinthians have withdrawn from the grade.

Capital 11 also have a 9 team league - is there a chance of cross over friendlies for the teams having byes?

Permalink Permalink

Capital 8 also have 9 teams due to one pulling out so my team may also be keen for a friendly when we have a bye.

Permalink Permalink

was there not 14 div's last year?

and div 14 had 11 teams (not to be confused with the DIV1 11 teams ) while all the others had 10...

So div 13 2015 has 12 teams in a A/B comp so push two or 3 up and make div 13 9 teams and a single comp without a A/B and make the rest 10 team leagues

it seems a lot of players and teams have left the building in 2015 ……

and thats a few dollars out of the coffers for capital football

i wonder why?

good sportsmanship and fair playing field is all we ask for

but all we get is talk and goal posts moving

Do you know who it was that pulled out? My team (north wellys) were originally supposed to be in Cap 8, then got dropped down to 9 before ending up in 7. All happened over a 2 day period.

Yeah Karori Meke pulled out days before the season due to lack of numbers (see Feverish's post in the Cap 8 thread). My team were Cap 8 last year, thought we had comfortably avoided relegation but were originally told we were going down to 9 only to be put back in 8 again.

Ah righto, probably why we bounced then too. All good though, off to a flyer in Cap 7.

Is that Pete Rainton's team or is he the one still in Cap 9? I used to play at NW and had a call from him before the season looking for someone's contact details and he said his team was also going to be in 8 this season.

Yeah was his team. He left just before the season started for personal reasons.

I can confirm that this is true, be warned!

Interesting, hadn't heard he had left.

Is he with your team now Baron?

SV Stormin' Norman's lost 3-2 the Marmosets today, pretty even affair, but us not finishing our chances really cost us, including missing a controversial penalty. A few defensive lapses at the back early on put us on the back foot and we couldn't get the equalizer we thought we deserved.

Local Derby to look forward to next week against the Destroyers

We(sv mr)had a 3-3 draw with the phatboys. Pretty even game so probably the right result.

Stormin' Norman's run out 3-1 winners over the Destroyers.

A reasonably evenly contested game played in good spirits.  The Destroyers took an early lead, we came back with a penalty just before the interval, and took the lead with around 20 to go, we made the points safe with around 5 to go.

Hey lads. Duncan from the Uni Wanderers here.

We managed to take down the Marmosets 1-0 in the first round. They were a slick team in the midfield and missed a few chances.

We then turned up to a Capital Football/Porirua City Council shocker after being transferred to Plimmerton 1.. no lines and no goals. We had a friendly and are replaying it tonight at Col.

We took down Stokes Valley 4-0 on Saturday, they were playing with the wind in the first half and we managed to keep them at bay. Got a cheeky own goal off a free kick just before half time  and our striker got a second-half hattrick. Top lads.

Three games in, it's looking like a bit of a shark tank. All of our games have been played in a great spirit, so cheers for that! Looking forward to playing with the rest of you.

We took a hammering in the driving rain on Monday night, by a slick young Seatoun team, score-line of 4-1 doesn't reflect how dominant they really were. They blew a host of good chances, and controlled the game throughout.

To compound our misery, we picked up a few injuries to key players, on top of the 2 players we already had out.

Biggest positive for us will be the fine jar getting a good top up.

Looking forward to the Phatboy's this weekend, we might have to pull some players out of retirement to get a full contingent.

Another tough result for the Stormin' Normans on Saturday night  vs the North Wellington Phat Boys, we took an early lead through a great goal into the top corner from a tight angle and then doubled it from a tap in after the initial shot crashed against the cross bar.

Phat Boys pulled a goal back on the stroke of half time, the second half was a pretty even affair with both keepers making some great saves, but our luck finally held out when a great defense-splitting through ball opened us up for the equalizer in the 88th minute.

We need to up our game this weekend against the Uni Wanderers who look to be one of the dominant sides in the grade.

Looking forward to the road trip Ronnie. We lost 2-0 to the Rampage and are coming off a bye so the lads are really keen to get back on the pitch.

Hopefully this weather holds. What's Delaney Park like this time of year?

Delaney is alright this time of year, although the number 2 turns to rubbish pretty quickly after rain, If it keeps on, I wouldn't be surprised to see us transferred (hope not though, there is a Chatham cup game on the number 1 after we finish.)

Lets hope you guys are a little rusty - we need some luck

Tough game against the wanderers on Sat ended up 2-0 to the Stormin’ Norman’s.

From my point of view it was an evenly contested first half, in which we had marginally had the better or the chances, and took a deserved lead from the penalty spot after one of the defenders had a brain fart slapping the ball out of the net.

Second half was all wanderers, I think they were camped in or around our penalty box for a good 30 minutes, but never managed to capitalise. We made the points safe with about 2 minutes to go, from quite possibly an offside position (from where I stood he was off), but we played to the whistle and got rewarded.

Was good seeing you guys come in for a beer afterwards as well.

Pretty good game, could've gone either way. Obviously disappointing for us as you ruined our chance of promotion!

A tip for teams travelling to Delaney park - set up camp on the far (drain) side of pitch. Getting the ball out of the drain/stream takes a couple of minutes and gave the Normans a few breathers when we were turning up the heat on them. So get your subs/fans/WAGs to do it instead!

Anyone taking odds on cancellations this weekend?

Tough 3-1 win for us other Wests on Saturday,  a very physical game, in which we lost 2 players with broken ribs.

Playing into the wind, we found ourselves 1-0 after about 20 minutes, but forced an equaliser on the counter attack shortly before half time.

Unfortunately for us the wind died down in the second half, but we made the points safe with 2 late goals.

Besides losing 2 more players to injury, we also lost our match ball which is shame.

But Bring on the other Stokes Valley team for our second derby game of the season, hopefully we can make it 2 from 2 against the other Stokes sides.

If anyone wants a giggle then the SV Stormin' Normans' website needs to be checked out

https://stormannormans.wordpress.com/

And another win yesterday, 5-2 in another SV derby, that gives us current bragging rights over both the other SV cap 12 sides ;)

RonnieMac with 3 goals + an assist, he won't tell you himself, too modest, so thought I'd post! He has 9 for the season now I think?

I'm currently one of two players out with broken ribs... luckily my searing pace and tireless work ethic wasn't missed yesterday. lol.

9 Goals? I think that's the number of sitters I've missed, Only 6 league goals for the Normans this year.

Was quite a decent game yesterday, we went down to a wonder shot from some where outside the box, was probably a hopeful long that looped over our keeper, from that point on it was all Norman's, we equalized after a passing move that started deep within our own half, and added a second shortly before half time.

Second half we came out all guns blazing, added a third after missing numerous chance half chances.

A poor defensive clearance gifted Stokes a second before we rounded out the goal with 2 more goals.

Always good to come out of the Derby matches with 3 points, a week off before facing the all conquering Rampage.

Shaun here from the Marmosets. bloody tough league this year weve had some real battles, only really one sided game was against the destroyers i dunno what was up that night?

We were missing a lot of players first game which i might use as an excuse for that loss, but i thought the wanderers were a bloody good team. Seatoun are really tough, we had to defend our asses off against them, if they passed the ball a little more rather than stepping over about 1000 times a game they would have had us.

We were handed a hiding from Rampage last week! I am not sure how we have managed to pull off second spot if I'm honest but its been a good first round

Good luck in Cap 11,

I think we will be glad to see you guys go up, you have given us a football lesson or 2 in the few games we played against you, none worse that the 6-1 thrashing you gave us at Delaney last season.

Good first round, looking forward to the second one. Congrats to Marmosets and the Rampage for their promotion. Looks like another Uni team has come down, we're looking forward to a local derby (as well as a bit of revenge against the SV teams!)
