I have a feeling there are other semi retired plodders out there who are in this division.  I play (sort of) for Porirua City Mana in this exciting league.

We and the Slayers will take out the division  - yeah rgiht!

I knew it!

They beat us 13 to nil last year - but wont this year.

You are right there. We are rebuilding this year. Our champion goal scorer, who by the way only turned up every third game, has left us for Australia. Still, I got a few against you lot last year. Unfortunalty our goalkeeper thought he would finally learn a few rules and has now left to take up a career as a ref so we will be breaking in a newbie this year. We have a few new younger guys so hopefully I can spend more time drinking on the sidelines and less time getting the sh*t kicked out of me by the other hacks in the grade.

As for the Slayers, look out they may get it together this year after beating us lot preseason.

The Slayers won?  Bloody hell.

We have several new signing to replace our failed experiment with Japanese schoolboys.  Goalies are a problem;  we play scissors, rock, paper before each game......

The Slayers won?  Youch - I remember making up the numbers for them last year when we (the Goldenrods) played them last year.  Had one really good striker - I played at right back and had the privilge of taking down some my own players (not good when you're the captain).

Somehow the Rods got promoted, but the fabulous Uni Bombers are there to represent Varsity this year.  We're in Cap 12 now with the marvellous Island Bay Vauxhalls - whose chant of "Vauxhall...Viva" after they score a goal has to be the most annoying celebration I've come across.

Nice to know the real core of Wellington football, Capital 13 is strongly represented here.

Best of luck to the Martians and Porirua City Mana for tomorrow's start of the season

Thanks Mossman.  We played the Goldenballs with only 8 players but still scored two goals to take the lead!!  still lost though.  Good luck with Div 12.  I am glad you have the Vauxhalls and not us; we didnt like their attitude.

Touche!

I guess so, but you have to have a passion to play at these levels where you play for fun and fitness and to keep going.  This will be my 40th consecutive year playing senior football and I still get a buzz each week even though I am well past it!

With the exception of the Vuaxhalls we found all the teams to be sporting and enjoying their game.  Often teams lent is players when we were short - so well done Div13.

Fence sitters?

As for the Vuaxhalls I thought they were ok, maybe we beat them, I can never remember.
I do remember a Stokes Vagas team turning up in the rain with half there 2nd team (or does their 2nd team play in our grade anyway). The w**kers didnt like lossing and put 2 of our team in the hospital.

Roll on Saturday. Hope you all make it through in good health.

Round one and here we go again.  Another heavy defeat for Porirua City Mana.  Oh well at least I am in one piece.

The tip about the Slayers seems right - they did well in first game.

Difficult to tell who the strong sides are yet.

I'm thinking Wainui and Uni Bombers will be the teams to beat.

Pleasing to see you made in through in one piece Orpewise.

Yes I think you are right.  Although our sister team Porirua City have some fast forwards and could cause trouble.  Uni Bombers were very cultured last year with lots of sikilled passing.

I played in Div 13 for Brocklyn Northern the last 2 seasons, have changed clubs this year and now in Div 8 for Mirimar.

Congrations. Your team is alot better than last season so I'm sure you'll pick up many more points. We are still struggling with combinations as you well have noticed.
Nightz did mange two goals

Yes fair go you did very well.  I didnt do too bad although I messed that easy header up and swore (telling off from ref!).

Was the ref ok? Thought the penalty was fair, as I scored from it .
Has your goalie been playing in that postion long?

Refing was good.  Many thanks for that.  Its just we lost in the last five mins last week to a penalty so are a bit fed up with them!

No, first time in goal today.  As I said we usually do scissor, paper, rock for the position....

With a more regular guy you'd do a lot better. He looked very nervous at times so I wondered if he was new to the postion.

good luck next week mate

I was about to come on here and congratulate you Orpewise on your first win but I see they have now changed the result around on the Capital Soccer web site.

What happened 1-9 ???

Missing players and defence off form.  The score a bit stupid, it wasnt really like that.  We scored first and it was 1-1 for a long time.  Then five goals in 180 seconds rather changes things! (Not really that fast but it felt like it!).  Every time they scored we pushed forward to get one back - the ball was cleared and a player ran through unchallenged to score!  Duh.

Finally after one and a half seasons PC Mana records its first ever win.  2-1 over the Slayers.

Thanks to all the players in the teams we have played who encouraged us to keep going even when we lost 13-1.  They said one day we would win and finally its true!  I am proud we never gave up and have tried to give everyone a game.

Did you guys play or just go to the pub?

Thanks for bringing this thread back to life!

I cant believe that Brooklyn Northern took that game seriously. They look like a Div 6 or above team to me! I tried my absolute best against them and still looked a total plonker!!

Our game against the Martians week before was unbelieveable - we probably could not have scored with an empty pitch instead of an opposition!!!

Hard to disagree with you there. Great opening goal by the Martins though.

Have they got any lights in your changing rooms yet? After 2 games at Petone we must be at your ground next time.

No lights! We are in discussions with the Council to demol, ish the old clubhouse and the bunker and build a new up to date changing facility and stor room. But not in time for this season obviously!

Good luck against destroyers today - we should have beaten them last week but again could not put open goals away!!!

Down 1 nil at half time after playing into the wind and rain. A dryer 2nd half and the wind behind us saw the Martins scrap home 2 1.

I see you got spanked 1 7.  I guess your goalie was as good at paper, rock, scissors as he was at goalkeeping

Be nice if you let us score 7 next week please.

A good game on Saturday against Porirua Mana and their cause was not helped by only having 10 players for the first half. Our goalie was very happy to have a run in the outfield up front late in the game and slot home a goal. Slayers are on a roll and we look forward to wrapping up Div 13c next week when we take on Stokes Vegas.

We had a weak team for Saturday with nine at kickoff (ten after a minute!). Mainly students who are a bit weak in the tackle! Slayers tend to get stuck in and win all the 50/50s in those circumstances. Not enough of us older guys to make a difference.

Next week at Waihora might be different!
