Looks like Tawa are doing a Uni from last year...slipping up against there own club!! I would have thought the ultimate was to have your higher placed side clinch promotion??

well if the 2nds cant beat the 3rds then what are you meant to do? kick the ball in your own net?

Fair call, but I still think a Central league club would want there seconds playing a stronger league than Cap 2 to attract more depth to the club...

Of course it's in the best interest of the club for the 2nds to be promoted. But at the end of the day, the 3rds aren't going to give points away on purpose so the 2nds can get promoted, especially when we aren't safe from relegation. Even if we were safe from relegation, I would not want even want to contemplate any match fixing.

Our 2nds still have a 7 point lead over Stop Out (who have a game in hand) and Stop Out still have to play Uni 1sts twice so our 2nds would have to do a royal screw up not to get promoted since top two now get auto promotion.

Wonder what sort of sides we will see this weekend given a number of higher up teams are not playing.

Still wide open between the Top 3.

So Uni have done there homework and realized that if they loose to Stop Out twice they are in trouble.... I wonder if Stop Out have done their homework and have prepared with a good side this weekend? I wonder if Uni loose to Stop Out this weekend, what sort of side will the gossies put out against Stop Out, will the gossies get a few from Uni 1sts?
What kind of condition is Kelburn park in? is it its usual rubbish self this time of year?

Bulldgos? when did they re-name themselves that?
Did they have the same team as they normally do each week? Dont mean to be rude but the team I have played against a few times, I wouldnt think they were capable of beating the gossies convincingly, and scoring that many goals in a season would be an acheivement for that team.

Expecting a good game against Stop Out, looking forward to it. And why would the Gossies want any of the first team guys, they beat Stop Out the first time around.

Kelburn Park in pretty poor condition, has been since they got rid of the on-site groundsman.

Because like I said if Stop Out beat Uni this weekend they will need the gossies to get a result against Stop Out when they play them, and whelst the gossies did get the points against Stop out last time, it was very close and their man of the match was their pitch, I dont think the gossies will get a result against Stop Out at hutt park, any other club would do it in that situation why wouldnt Uni?

Because the first team still have tough games against Wellington United and Olympic, as well as having to play Stop Out again. And the Gossies are a good side.
Also, the Bulldogs were good for their win last week. The Gossies had begun a mini comeback but were killed off by a determined side (just to respond to your put-down about them earlier).

Ender, that bulldogs team must have done all the talking with the ball. Perhaps with a bit of finese? Surely that is not a team of league players from aussie.

Fair enough, thats all I was looking for.
Wasn't a putdown, was just an opinion based on my experience of games against that team which  have never been of very good quality thats all. have never seen anything from them that would suggest they were capable of that result, particularly because as you were saying, the Gossies are a good side.

So Uni pretty much guaranteed promotion with a 10 point lead over stop out (who still have a game in hand over Uni and Tawa), and Tawa close to guaranteeing promotion with a 8 point lead over Stop Out.

We learned the hard way over the last few years that until the math says that you're guaranteed something, you aren't. That being said, let's hope we keep on going this way

With a gutsy 1-0 win over Olympic, University has mathematically gained promotion to Capital 1 next year.

Gossies still in the hunt for a 3rd league spot.

What a great year for Varsity.
