I'm predicting this grade to be devoid of talent without a Karori team

Have the Vistas been disbanded or re-named? I notice the team in Cap 3 is called the barcodes.

Wellington Coll whipped them in the Chatham Cup. I played against them once last year, they werent very good and i was actually surprised they ended up with a promotion spot, Cap 3 was pretty average though. Im picking Uni's, Utd, Hutt and Tawa A will pick up the points.

I haven't played Waikanae for a few years always found them tough especially at home. Be interesting to see how they go.

I sure hope the weather will be a bit nicer this season as last year it was (by far) the worst (weather-wise) in the 7 years I've been in NZ.

Will any new artificial turfs be used this season by CF? Or is Te Whaea the only turf?
I heard they are in the process of building 2xartificial turfs at Wakefield (?) Park (Island Bay), but surely they won't be operational this season.

edit: I don't know why I used one hundred brackets there, apologies.

Expect to see Tawa As game v Olympic to move to Kura or Onepoto- rumours is there will be no games on redwood before central league.

unsure if this decision is to do with predicted state of pitch after one week or debate around lack of changing facilities for 4 teams.

Hi all

Would anyone be keen to play Marists 2nd team in a friendly game this weekend?

Cheers

Not looking good eh Mikey?
It's a bit late for pre-season friendlies I think. Anyway, best of luck for the season mate - hope you to see you in Cap 2 next year again. And you should totally play for Eurasia and ditch Vatican-Marist-City after the season's finished.
Mind you, I don't think I'll be around for the Mini World Cup this year actually..

Reasons?

Good coach, good bunch of quality young guys. Saw them play at Hilton - despite not winning a game - looked impressive.
Permalink Permalink

Ok could easily happen casue they weren't too bad when they played last year. But wow that's funny - "the didn't win a game but looked good" you can't look that good if you keep losing

tawa b should win cap 2 easy - didn't win a game at hilton petone either.

Stop Out to be promoted, heard it here first.

They'll need to play a bit better than they did last week against a heavily under strength BNU Reserve squad

I think stop out will most deffinatley be up there especially if they have the same squad as they did towards the end of last year. You would imagine tawa and uni should be the main two scrapping for the promotion spots though. Apparently uni gossies have at least 3 players that should be playing in a much higher league too so it shall be interesting.

Names?

Some danish guy? An American who plays on the wing and a center mid youngish kiwi guy called aidan or hayden or something are all high quality.

Giu is going to be gutted you didnt include him in that list haha. But yeah those guys are very good.

so have uni still not sorted out who their "1st" team actually is? bobboltontawa22011-04-01 14:22:22

I wouldn't say that. Handy players in both teams.

Also, it is spelt ridiculous.

haha but haven't they 2nds beaten the firsts twice already and three of the best players in the club are in the seconds? I would expect the gossies to probably go on a bit of a winning streak in there first games like last season.

Stop Out 2 - Wgtn Utd 1

A good game 1st up for both sides. Stop Out scored 1st after about 60 mins. Then went down to 10 men. Wgtn utd equalised then they conceded a penalty for Stop Out to score the winner.
The Stop Out boys did really well to hold out for the last 5-10mins under all sorts of pressure

uni 2 tawa b 1

not a good day for tawa.

Yes, a good game 1st up and very competitive from both sides. I think most sides will struggle to get points off you out there.
The penalty was a pretty average call by the Ref, who overall had a pretty decent game. A draw would probably have been a fair result as both sides had their period of domination.

tawa a v olympic? that results strange?

Ok just to put it to rest. What BG1988 "hints" at is that there are some guys in the Gossies who COULD do well in the 1st team. Fair enough,as this is often the case. It happened every year since I play for the club.

However what he doesn't know is:

a) Some of these guys were only picked at trials, so they may not have the same level of fitness/ are acquainted with the style of play as all the others who started training in the 1st week of January)

b) This is the 1st team coach's 3rd season in charge. He has spent much time trying to coach his team play the way he wants. Quite a few players (from 1st and 2nd team) have been around during these seasons - so his selection choices make sense.

c) Daan actually played for the 1st team, Hayden was injured, so that only leaves one player to validate his point. Said player is an international student and will leave at the half way mark of the season. This could contribute to him playing for the Gossies.

d) The selections for 1st/2nd team are never set in stone. Work hard at training and play well on a saturday and everyone can make the squad.

ON TO Waikanae 2 - 0 Uni Gossies.
It was a very warm day which I think we all struggled with a little. The Waikanae lads were physically superior - they probably only had one "normal" guy, while the rest were very tall and strong. Hence they won most of the balls in the air which helped them a lot, especially in the middle of the park and defensively.
1st half ended 1-0 to Waikanae though I thought we had played very well and created more chance than them, including hitting the bar once from a corner kick.

In the second half they came out more and played some good football, their GK made a great save around the 10' and I think that sealed it for us as they scored pretty soon afterwards. In the end of the game, they overall deserved the point though we go home with lots of positives.

One more word I will say about their hospitality and general warm welcome. All the Waikanae lads were very friendly and even if the game got a bit physical there were no grudges at the end of the game. Fair play highlight goes to the lad who tried to get the ref to not book one of our players after a challenge, saying that there was nothing in it.

I recommend everyone to visit their local where they have drinks - nice place, lots of beer and good food.

Seatoun 0 - Upper Hutt 2
Upper Hutt look pretty good this year,no way near what they were last year, super duper real quick and structured.I would imagine they'll be up there at the top of the table at the end of the season.Who ever draws them this week be warned........hope your all super fit,the team is predominantly 17 year olds with a couple of experienced indiv's at the back.Good luck!!
