Are they getting pumped though? (I haven't bothered to check). If they're competitive enough and the league is tight then it could well be the right entry level.
Capital 3 2013
Interesting thoughts all round... speaking from my clubs perspective the level is just fine. We have had a challenging year with lack of availability and players leaving us one week from the start of the season. Our main issue is that we have a much smaller catchment of players to the wellington clubs where we have issues with team members we don't have the strength to pull up players from other leagues (Masters 1 included) or drop them down from the 1st or 2nd teams. If our first team was to return to the local completion this would weaken our club.
We are working hard on creating clear pathways for the younger kids to play a higher level of football. Where the highest level you can go to is local league is not enough for these talented guys. We get very little support from capital football for pathway development. Our club is happy to be playing in capital 4 and will not throw our toys out because of one bad year.
If there wasn't this issue of capital 1 having 11 teams the Wairarapa 2nds team would still be in cap 2 with also Douglas villa. Clubs take time to build, my club has only been established since 2009. So I believe the level is right, however the depth within our community could not sustain another team in the leagues, which all the clubs are well aware of.
so Rapa relo from 2, and Masterton and Greytown relegated from 3. Does this demonstrate automatic cap 3 entry is too generous?
I reckon its OK. Both these teams stayed up in Cap 3 last year, Douglas Villa and Wairarapa both won promotion to Cap 2 at some stage, Paekak and Waikanae both did as well (didnt Paekak win promotion to Cap1 before dropping back out due to lack of players?).
Good to see at least one of the two clubs from Cap3 this year will be hanging around for 2015.
Paekak and Waik aren't in the CF league any more are they? Not sure how you are talking them up?
Theyre in the Horowhenua league. At the time they were in Cap2 when they pulled out and went back IIRC

So both a failure then

Im not sure what you're trying to argue? You're questioning if these clubs are good enough to enter at Cap3 and Ive just given you 4 teams from the last 6 to come in who have won promotion higher than Cap3. That tells me they're good enough.

No it doesn't. One swallow doesn't make a summer. Offering a gift of entering at cap3 surely requires some commitment and longevity in their decision to uptake it - as it is at the expense of a team who has potentially worked hard to get there. To have one ok year and then pull the pin is a pisstake surely? Are the teams who do that free to enter the league again in future years.
Outside of the horowhenua teams, no wairarapa team has pulled the pin. We have and will continue to play there as you said its about longevity.
And I think to insinuate that the wairarapa teams haven't worked hard to get there is a little bit un-informed.

I totally agree. The facts would suggest they are very committed as they have to travel eight times away for the day over the hill on average as against Wellington clubs twice. This is both expensive and very time consuming. Wellington clubs often turn up for there two trips struggling to field a team and we have to do it every second week.
Which club are you guys from? Masterton or Greytown?
