Fair assessment. Our finishing was pretty poor today and we lacked fluidity. We did have a couple of key players out today, although this just seems to be the nature of our team. Hopefully at some stage during the season we'll have everyone there and be able to put together a complete performance.

We'll take the clean sheet though! First one in over a season!

Surprised at this, considering some of the massive margins you guys have won by haha

Easbourne played out a pretty average 1-1 draw vs BNU Palace.
As far as I'm concerned it was a pretty weird game. First of all Happy Valley shouldn't be a football pitch - I know, I know it's only cap 5..well I actually played there when I was playing both Cap 1 and Cap 2.

Then both halves seemed to be very short, I seriously think something was wrong with the stop watch..

My wife came to watch the last 10' of the game and she said the final whistle was blown at 4.00pm - we definitely started around 2.35 if not later, so..weird.

As far as the game is concerned, BNU had the better of us in the first 25-30 and played quite well especially through the middle. The deserved their lead, which must be said was scored from an off-side position. We came out in the last few minutes of the 1st half, but couldn't get an equalizer.

In the second half they tired very early and we finally started playing. Our goal was pretty average - second week in a row one of us scores with their tummy from a corner kick [obviously a well-rehearsed training move], but we were very unlucky not to get a couple more.

All in all we could have probably won it, but credit to them for starting the game well and not falling apart in the 2nd half.

Cheers NZP. Tummys are where it's at. Hope to get down from Jafa-town before too long. PS: see my review: Glenfield R v Nth Shore from NNL1. A neutral reports from Devonport (Devvers), kind of Auckland's equivalent to Eastbourne/Day's Bay.

Yeah Happy Valleys a shit hole. One unfortunate aspect of the artificial at Wakefield is that only BNU first team get to play there now due to every other team in wellington "being given the opportunity to play there", Ive seen Cap3 games between Hutt Valley sides played there while BNU reserves have had to play at Happy Valley. You think a reserve team would be allowed to play all their home games at their home ground but I guess being in Cap 5, with no refs, nobody really cares about you any more. We played only 2 games last season on Wakefield, one being an evening game against Palace.

Eastbourne vs naenae in the cup! Chance for an upset huh?

Idea draw (for both teams), the 2 lowest division teams isn't it? The narrower pitch will help negate naenaes pace on the wing.

No, Greytown and Stokes Valley are lower than Naenae.

Of course, forgot about greytown. Was unaware SV were lower.

I headed along to Wakefield and reffed the second half of the BNU derby. 9-1 to the reserves. 3-0 at half time, heads well and truly dropped for Palace in the 2nd. Not much else to report. Was a pretty clean game, think I only blew up 2 fouls.

Was going to pull the boots on next week for the Reserves but looks like we have a bye with Eastbourne playing in the Chatham cup.

Eastbourne lost 6-2 vs Miramar.
Miramar are the best side we played so far this year, although our marking in the 1st half was absolutely appalling and we conceded 3 goals from 3 set pieces (including a throw in) in the first half.

Miramar used the flanks much more than we did - in fact I feel we were better in the middle of the park, but they often managed to get the ball out wide, and into the box, and dominated in the air.
We created quite a few chances, their keeper pulling a superb double save late in the first half, and our striker missing two one-on-one's kept us scoreless in the first 45'.

2nd half was very similar, though we scored a free kick and a peno, but in the end their attack proved too strong and they got the more goals and the 3 points.

Went to watch the games last night....almost could have been cancelled the conditions were terrible. Petone beat Uni and Wharf beat Marist. It look slike it is becoming a pretty even competition.

BNU reserves went down 6-2 to Miramar last night under lights, have to say from seeing every team play this season that Mar look to be the strongest. There was some sideline banter to suggest Mar were playing some of their Cap Prem players but dont know how accurate that was. BNU were missing a couple of first choice centrebacks, but brought down a couple of first team players and still struggled. Mar were just far too strong physically.

I can confirm Miramar most likely played some of last years masters players.

It was 5-1 at half time if i recall.

Im just stoked to be back in the frame myself, first training session tomorrow and hopefully straight onto the team card for Petone, who I know from last season will be tough.

Outstanding performance from BNU today to beat Petone 3-1, gives us good grounding in 3rd place with a game in hand, and having lost only to the 2 teams above us. Petone were pretty much what i expected from last season, strong and physical. We learned our lesson earlier in the week and took that into the game, and without any first team lads dropped down we did well.

We went 1-0 ahead about mid first half and took that into the break. Petone leveled it early in the 2nd with a solid uncontested header from a corner. We then pulled ahead about mid half once more. Petone kicking off again saw a bit of drama with a straight red card produced which saw them down to 10. I didnt see it from the bench but i understand one of our lads picked the ball up and was taking his time getting it back to halfway, one of the Petone gents took exception to this and pushed him, ref ordered him off. With about 15mins to go we finished them off and put it beyond doubt 3-1. After using their subs they lost another to injury which saw them to 9 with about 10mins remaining.

EFC went down 3-0 at home vs Uni. Pretty average game on our part. Few chances in the 1st half which we failed to convert. They did - and got the points. Our GK did well (incl. saving a peno) but it just wasn't to be.

One of those days I guess.

I watched this game...well most of it. Missed the last 15 where all the action was! The Cap football website hasn't updated the table huh? Still showing 7 games? That Petone are angry huh? Good times

Yeah they were fuming from that red card. Quite lucky they didnt have another sent off just after that as well though. One of our guys went in for a really late challenge and chopped him, the Petone guy got up and went straight for his face, was more of a red card than the first but didnt even get a yellow. Our guy was booked for the challenge. Both games we played against them last season were like this as well - angst angst angst.

BNU reserves well and truly beaten by an impressive Uni side today, really scraping the bottom of the barrel for players this weekend (apparently BNU Palace were in the same boat and were considering defaulting). We started the game with 11 men and even had our first team coach as a sub in the 2nd half. Its that point of the season where people are starting to suffer from injuries, and a few lads took the long weekend off.

Enough with the excuses though, Uni took the lead from the 2nd minute and never gave it up. 3-zip at half time and we only scored via 2 pens towards the end of the match. It was Miramar all over again. Too weak and too slow in the back, heads dropped.

We had a couple of moments though, hit the cross bar in the first half and the wind held up an effort into what was an open net (fuck you wind!). The better side won today.

That is a surprising result....players away for the long weekend?

We lost 3-1 to Miramar, nice goal scored by Michele Zanoto (Cap 5 regular?!) just before half time. Had a pen turned down then pushed for a win. Miramar a bit toogood for us. Going to be an interesting second half of the season

lolololol funny. Safe to say theyre bringing a lot of players down on a regular basis then. Ive seen them play a couple times this season and he wasnt part of the squad on either occasion.

This is a team card grade so no irregularities or they would get pinged.

All you have to do is write their name down as someone else. Also most of the time there is no referee to check on it.

Most of u obviously know who is who.  But reality is  most clubs can no longer risk the problems.  But players coming back from time away from the game how ever short or injury don't always go back to full 1st team or even 2nd team starts.  I think I sore Woody P in cap 5 when he came back from World Cup tour that year.

We did actually have a ref for this game....to be honest, I don't really mind that clubs drop players. It's within their rights and does create a challenge for other teams. It makes it harder for smaller clubs though as they can't call on the same resources and in an ideal world it might mean that they will struggle when players aren't dropped (I do note that all Miramar won't be able to drop players this week as all teams are playing).

Still, makes it very interesting for the league. Two teams out front by quite a bit, Brooklyn losing was interesting and everyone else seems pretty close. Do two teams get promoted?

The most interesting thing about Miramar beating Wests on Saturday is that it could set-up one heck of a final weekend!  Assuming both teams keep winning (which looking at the gap to 3rd is looking likely) then we will battle it out at Endeavour on the final weekend to see who wins the league....

Long way to go until then though.

The referee will have no way to tell if you are putting down false names unless they know the person. It is up to the opposition to make a complaint to Capital Football if this happens.

Eastbourne lost 3-1 to Petone Chicago under the lights at Memorial last night.

Petone were possibly the best team we played this year (maybe behind Miramar only), but we still dominated the first 45'. We should have been up by at least a couple of goals but their GK was the stand out players in the team making at least 4 very good saves, including a 1on1 with our striker who has scored 8 or 9 goals already this season and who usually puts those away, and a wonder strike from yours truly which was destined for the top right corner.

In the second half we had the wind against and struggled to keep possession, and they scored 2 absolute crackers (the opener and the final goal), with in between a gift from our RB who was last man and gave the ball away. We pulled one back when it was 2-0 to them and mounted the final come back, but the cracker from n.13 (top left corner from 25-30mt) killed us.

One of those games where you don't mind losing too much, because you know you were up against a good team and you gave it your best..

..but at the same time, the regret that if we'd put our chances away, especially in the first 45' we would have gone home with the 3 points.

Yeah not finishing those chances in the first half cost us. We had our best half of the season in the first half, petone had probably the best half from an opposition we've come up against this season in the 2nd half.

Would have been an Entertaining game for a neutral.

Looks like we have you lot at Wakefield this weekend, I may well end up marking your main man up front as well. We still have a game in hand against you from the weekend you played Chatham cup, may be another mid week fixture somewhere perhaps?
