Possibly this post is going up a little late...but after all the talk we've had this year I thought I would at least give people the details of when they are actually able to take some action...
The meeting is tonight, Thursday 25th of September. the Central League meeting is at 6.30, and the General meeting is at 7.30 at the CF offices in Petone-
Agenda is:
Central League
- Review of standards, any changes to regulations?
- Any desire to bring back a Reserve League?
General
- Suggested regulation changes:
- Regrading?
- Reaffirm age restrictions
- U-19 (U-21?) leagues
- Should we raise the age for Masters football?
- Club-based Referees
I am interested to see that the Reserve League topic is under the Central League meeting only, I would have thought other clubs may have had their opinions on that also...
If you have felt strongly about anything that has happened this year, or just generally want to give your ideas for the progress of our sport in the football capital of NZ, then get along and put your 2 cents in....

Not sure if it's a free-for-all deal, but maybe people could get their ideas through to their club reps so that they can take them to the meeting?

All Karori's home games to be played in the first 9 weeks in an attempt to catch the last of the dry summer weather?
That said, if you could get Easts Cricket Club to move their pitch off our ground that'd be quite good.
Not sure if thats League Structure but....

I'll see what I can do. Shall I tell the Cntrl Lge meeting they need Karori and Marist in there? Gonna miss myself on World of Football though.

It took us something like 7 years to get our pitch moved from the opposite corner of the park to where it is now....and I'd probably settle for a return to the Premier League...
To be honest, if you could give us a hand in getting the player regrading rules tightened up that'd be much appreciated

well i managed to charm them over into introducing the 'Mike Greene Super Club League'.
This consists of 24 WGTN first teams split into three eight team divisions with top four play offs and automatic promo/relegation.
Looking forward to it.

no i made it up just before the meeting. The eight teams in each league would be sorted out very easily this season.
Anyway it will be the status-quo I'd say, as to affect anything you need to know the secret Central Lge handshake and start every sentence with "well twenty years ago we had..."

yes. Capital Soccer have come to an agreement with god, and there will be less rain in the days leading up to the weekend next winter. In return, Capital Soccer has to ban heavens and greeks from playing.
All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

we talked about some tightening of the rules. If two or three of the ideas are employed then it should have an impact. Season finishing when your team finishes (not the league), only regraded once per weekend, playing firsts and seconds on the same day etc.
Dunno if we will lose the most ridiculous rule in world football of no automatic relegation in CL.
Surprised at how many club reps just sat on their chuff and didnt say boo. Then again I think I went to the other extreme.

think you mis-interpreted that frankie - was talking re wetern suburbs being allowed to play on sundays - nothing to do with wanting it to be sunny every saturday - although that would be nice

Now that I think about it though, CF said "We'll draft something" - I don't remember hearing a timeframe on when this something will be drafted, or what the process would be to get it written into the regulations... hmmm... Feverish - do you remember anything being said about when and how?

there was interest in a playoff system in the grades. I think it would be great to add a bit of spice and have a focal point for our season.
Some of the fossils mentioned that the EPL and other Euro Lges didnt have them (their Cup comps provide a focal point for them by the way) so why should we??
ok what about automatic relegation (for CL) - the EPL has that?
oh yeah but A-Lge and NZFC dont (well they dont have any league structure below them but anyway).
Yeah righty-ho - well they have play-offs so does that mean you support them?
er not necessarily

Yeah, I was pretty confused when the old-timers started talking about how the a-league and nzfc don't have automatic relegation - it's a bit irrelevant to talk about leagues that stand alone... It's a difficult topic though, cause there are always going to be valid arguments for and against it, perhaps the bottom 2 teams need to be under threat in CL, not just the bottom... I don't know, you could talk about it for hours and still get nowhere!
I guess the biggest battle will be changing the mindset of the people that remember the way things have been done for the last 100 years!

I think I remember Keith saying that the options discussed to prevent the piss being taken out of regrading rules would be circulated for discussion. I don't think that my idea of banning CL second teams from Premier will be in that list though although there was support for it despite what Keith said. The fossils seemed to think its more important to let little Johnny come on as a sub for the 1st team then go back to the 2nd team in Premier, than to safegaurd the integrity of Central League, Premier League, Capital 1, Capital 2 and even Capital 3. But it was a good meeting, the age of attendees is getting lower and the old guard will get worn down slowly but surely.

only cos I raised it. funnily enough in the preceeding meeting CL teams wanted to keep it
it was mentioned about the supposed better structures and finances etc that a potential team entering into the CL would need. I said that if they dont meet any specified criteria then dont let them in, however having to play a play-off game is completely unrelated to whether a team has the finances/infrastructure etc that are supposedly needed.
I think it is on the table, though Tawa,UH,Kapiti,Island Bay etc need to find a voice.

I had a chat with Keith a few weeks ago about the Venus Shield format changing.
Lets play it as a Ranfurly Shield type competition as the holder puts it up for grabs every home game they Play.
Fiji have it at the momment as the"best Wellington Team" which is rubbish as there is plenty better playing in the CL.
So I suggested all Home games including Cup (but only against Wellington Football Teams) its on the line. This will add some spice to some games and also some of those games at the end of the season that do not have an effect on the table.
Thoughts anyone? He did mention he would bring it up at the meeting....

It was mentioned, then we got talking about the O'Brien shield which from what I could gather was played for under the Ranfurly Shield rules by Wellington clubs only, but which has disappeared in the last few years. No one at the meeting could even remember who last won it let alone who might have it. That Venus Shield is a beauty though, if the O'Brien Shield can't be found then use the Venus Shield instead.
