It is very much being considered.
25min flight to Wellington vs 60min flight to Chch for starters. Then you add in Dunedin is an extra flight and Wānaka is two flights and an hour bus ride.
The cost of the Southern League is something the rest of the country do not consider (and indirectly still pay for). So moving Nelson to the Central region solves quite a bit of the problem.
It makes a lot of sense to me.
