Broadly supportive of this - As long as Western or Rangers come through the playoffs!

Guessing the playoffs games as ordered in that article are placeholders for now? Given there are 3-4 games left in the Cap Prem & Fed League. Still a chance for Western to grab an automatic spot. 🤞

They show as indicative, based on table as they stood yesterday.

Thought about as much. Didn't see the word indicative, but lack of sleep probably caught me out.

Still happy about this development nevertheless.

This is all great to hear! Hopefully, this will lead to both CL1 and 2 getting more than 10 teams long-term (preferably 12 min) and have slightly longer seasons. Also great to hear that there will be automatic promotion/relegation and not a play-off with the last-place team. Can't wait to see where this leads

Really sceptical about this and whether there are 10 teams keen/able to participate longer term.

Also really surprised most capital football clubs were supportive. More cost, and with olympic/miramar excluded from CL2, likely to get a worse competition.

and now we are going to get Oly and Mar second teams pumping Douglas Villa 20-0 in the new Capital premier league.

I mean if so many clubs were for it then maybe it's more economically viable than we think.

As for the reserve teams going down, I do see your point. Literally half the Capital Premier League are reserve teams, so anyone coming up is gonna struggle. Then again if you want to look at it optimistically you improve best against strong competition.

Didn't I read a line about CF considering adding a mirrored Reserves league for Central League 1 (and maybe 2) to avoid the above issue - I did trawl through three different presentations, each one revealing slightly more detail - so I might have just imagined it.

The belief is that some reserve team players for central league clubs will shift, looking for first team football in CL2. (I've heard a CL Coach say that some of his reserves are actively in that process for next year).

There is no doubt in my mind that this will happen.  But of more concern to me is when the Wellington Clubs realise that all of a sudden, their long trip of the year, from Wellington to Upper Hutt, now becomes a trip to New Plymouth, a couple to Palmy and one to Hawkes Bay.  There will be expense involved.

There is still a chance albeit slight that Gisborne may win their way in so this when added to other away trips could put a large financial strain on some of the Wellington Clubs.

Click on the "More information on the background, purpose and structure" button, it reveals (Page 17/19)

"... excludes $8,000 per trip to Gisborne which Central will cover ..."

Personally I think that level of travel expenditure associated with a full league season at this tier of football is not a good investment.

One more match to be played this weekend in Fed League which will determine the final placings and who plays who in the playoffs.

So looks like Wellington Marist have decided not to participate.

Potentially plenty of travel in that league huh? Maybe Marist are making a wise choice.

I bet all Wellington teams are hoping Te Kotahitanga can pull one over Gisborne

Were Marist in the mix?
You think they would have had an option since they finished 3rd (behind Wests who aren't taking part and Douglas Villa who are) and above Vic Uni by 8 points.

Ok so it goes down to cap1. Wests can’t be taking part in cl2 though?

I believe clubs had to let Capital Football know at the beginning of the season or at least earlier in the year if they wanted to not be apart of CL2 and the potential play offs (if they were to hypothetically at that point make it). Reserve teams are ineligible for CL2.
Marist opted out of this earlier in the year which means Douglas Villa take the first Cap 1 spot and Vic Uni the second.

Yes potentially a lot of travel but my guess is that over the next few years it will end up like Central League 1, with there only being 1 or 2 teams from outside the Wellington region, which, kinda defeats the whole point of the league being created in the first place?

You would hope that Te Kotahitanga can beat Gisborne. A lot more "neutral" TK fans for that game, surely!

How come some teams have actual names in front of them? Like Peggy Gordons' ___ or Shani's ___? Something to do with sponsorships I'm assuming?

Yep, bang on about sponsorship.

Us regional folk need all the funding we can get to get these teams on the park! The good thing for Taranaki based sides will be that they can go through both the NZCT & the Toi Foundation for grants which should see them through in terms of costs for travel as well as small to significant infrastructure upgrades - See FC Western who have upgraded their lighting!

FC Western with a team of significant sponsors already, and Bertie (Peggy Gordons former owner) is still pumping a decent chunk of change into Rangers as far as I'm aware.

Lived in New Plymouth in 1996. I still remember Peggy Gordons (a very popular bar back then) as being a big football shrine.

Still is. 😎
Although as with all hospitality around the country at the moment it's going through a bit of a quiet patch.

Surprised they're still sponsoring NP Rangers though, given Bertie sold the business a few years back.

I'm not so sure. Without CapFootball reserves sides, some of the clubs are quite far down the leagues here in Wellington.

Speaking of which, Cap Premier will be nearly entirely CL reserve teams unless they set up a CL Reserves League

By my calculations Cap Prem will be:

Miramar ressies
Olympic ressies
Karori ressies
Marist
Wests ressies
Wainui
Petone ressies
Phoenix 3rd team
IBU ressies
VIC uni.
