Petone grabbed a couple of draws that year against Gisborne

In fact the boys in royal blue did pretty well against Gisborne. They never lost to them at any stage in all competitions. 6 games in CL. 5 x 1-1 and a 2-1 win at Petone (Malcolm Inness and Kruno Ivancic). 2 cup victories. The first v Fallons Team that had 7 All Whites. GT scored for Petone in Extra time. 1-0. in front of 2500 at Mem Pk. The second was by default. NZFA banned them from the Chatham Cup until they paid Petone $400. They never played in the cup again and Petone never got the dosh.

you cannot get blood out of a stone.

i am pretty sure this was just after large sums of money were spent that caused the lack of money to travel the following season so if they cannot afford to pay to get to the game how are they going to pay a fine?

sad times for a few clubs in the 80's them including NW who were on the bare bones after big money being spent on things that were not as they seemed or promised by people involved in the management of the club and first team..

many names but non that need to be hauled over the coals again as what's it going to solve as a good team of people fixed the problems at NW and worked hard to put the club in a better place than it was left by those people.

some clubs did not survive the actions of poor management and grand plans and they sadly are no longer with us today

Again light on detail you dickhead.  You talk a good game - but talk in riddles and vagaries.  Show some loyalty and shut up about the club.  If you don't like it, leave for another.  The IQ of each club will increase.

i am not disloyal as you suggest MR retired hurt.

all my comments re past money issues are well documented and any person involved in football in the 80's probably will know exactly what was happening to some clubs re money as WSA meetings then where quite open and informative.

And in this thread i thought i was comparing what happened to NW and some other clubs to Gisboure city afc.

I do have knowledge of what happened during the 80's to NW and other clubs though personal and associate experiences that might explain how a great club from that era becoming a not so great club over a short period which it has not really recovered from.

These things happen in football clubs from time to time and can make clubs stronger by the lessons learned….

what do the WHO say in there song "Don't get fooled again"

and i am talking Central League here not Capital one……

can you remember the days of NW in central one?

and if so please correct what is not correct as a few of the people who where involved in NW and other clubs are dead and the others are getting no younger

so soon the ability to ask  people to testify as to what they did or didn't do will be over .

so please your version of Central league football in the 80's from a management level please…….

to who?????

i show respect to those who earn it and i don't stand idle while others disrespect the values and ethos of our club as it used to have.

and then there is the people who cannot be with us who would of been doing exactly the same and speaking out about what is happening at NW as they also valued the rules and ethos of our club.

ask not what your club can do for you and your kids but what can you do to help your club and it's members…..

no not these days

and we were talking about Gisborne being winners of the central league in 1979 and undefeated and what happened to them.

unfortunately i made a reference to some history that i know happened in wellington in the 80's and it seems someone has a sore point over this comparison and i don't need to explain why i hope.

but back to football

i am hoping for someone to topple Miramar from a clean sweep of wins at least.

and if someone could give them a loss my year would be made as it would mean less humble pie i would need to eat from comments made at the start of the year with a few other drunks.

yep both need the points from the other to give that little break/cushion from upper hutt who could pull a couple out of the bag and drop the next team above into a big hole.

i think lower hutt might get all 3 on the day

but i am more interested in weather petone will put in a effort at miramar and catch them with there pants down and go home with some points……

conditions might favour the brave tomorrow.

From following on Twitter it sounds like Petone gave them a good game, they went up 2-0 before finally losing to Miramar 3-2. Miramar twitter account saying Petone keeper was having a blinder too.

will by the sound's the brave showed up but just not enough…

caught them napping and then they came with venom so the keeper deserves his MoM even with a loss.

so who will/can stop this possible clean sweep of wins ???

player of the tournament was his claim to fame and if what you say is correct old sole then it is good to see NCR giving the youth a break at the top to develop by playing them regularly at a the top level….

but even though i like there youth policy i am happy lower hutt got a point the other week…..

Grant Plumbing Petone 4 beat Miramar 2 after coming from 2-0 down. Reversal of last week.

Whitmarsh off the bench in the second half to score a hattrick. Sam Mason Smith sent off last minute.

Should put Stick top of Golden Boot with 13.

Miramar 2- 0 up after 20 minutes looked as though it was going to be a walk in the (Memorial) Park but in a reversal of the fixture between these two teams last week it was Grant Plumbing Petone who came back from the dead thanks to  a Paul Whitmarsh hattrick.

Graeme Little must be thinking of getting his boots out as he watches, week after week, as Petone's Peter Pan continues to come off the bench to score with monotonous regularity. A couple of defensive shockers presented a goal eachway but in the end Petone seemed to have the majority of the play in the second half. A few meaty tackles and a few yellows including two for Mason-Smith. I dont think the result is going to damage Miramars title hopes but it will lift a Petone team that has missed regulars, Richie McLay and Michael Pickering for large parts of the season plus a couple of Blairs from last year. Replacements have obviously come in and showed their worth though, and with games against the other two Hutt Valley teams, both struggling below Petone in the league, Petone should close the gap on those cutting each others throats above.

The weekend was capped off with the two Tall Poppy Petone Women's teams winning promotion on Sunday. The club had earlier recognised the 60 + years of contribution to the club by John Bradbury when they named the lounge , The John Bradbury Lounge at a function held for him on Friday night.

What a shame about West Ham.
