Who saw the Mar vs. Oly game last night. Apparently Mar coach said that Olympicbeat their Capital premier league team and to see how they go once Team Wellington players are available 2nd round. Wonder how the current Mar squad feel being called Cap Prem level by their coach.

err I did...maybe you should read the post directly above your one?

The current Mar team was their Cap prem team last season, apparently 7 TW players have signed for Mar, so when TW finish they'll be back. Was also told that Olympic were missing 6 players yesterday

Unfortunately, to many coaches think they are bigger then the game. Edge is on the top shelf. They crazy thing is that the guy has done absolutely nothing from a team perspective in the game as a coach.

My bad he won the CL after 4 years of trying!!!!

....with a team that had an average of 18. Not bad when you consider in that 4 years OleWests have probably sent about 20 players into US college system too. Add to that the decent number of U23s playing in nz premiership teams (ACFC, Canterbury, Eastern Suburbs, Hawkey Bay that I know of).

I can’t think of a coach who has had an association with more current pro players than Declan. Off the top of my head: Ryan thomas, Tyler Boyd, Jesse edge, Tyler lissette, Elliot Collier, Cory brown, Kyle Adams   - 7 current signed players

Plus heaps of NZ age group reps

Name me any other coach that has that record?

But yeah, he’s only won one central league with a team, so let’s bag him.  Sure mate, jog on

This

Near the end of last season they lost nearly half of their starting side to college commitments before they had wrapped up the title, but they just kept on winning

In the 5 years that Declan has been in charge at Wests they have finished 3rd, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 1st

Given that his teams have been mostly kids that's a pretty impressive record

add to that what Global game has pointed out, he's doing a pretty good job

Some people may see him as a bit of a knob and he may upset some people but so what? his job is to develop footballers not be nice to people!

I think the only other coach with a similar record in NZ would be Kevin Fallon

Declan needs to learn that in many games the other bench takes great delight at winding him up, precisely to goad a reaction such as this one.

This is my fourth year watching West's team (plus the two TWY sides he's run over the summer) and I've seen him take an unbelievable amount of abuse from opposition benches, players and fans and rarely have I seen him respond.

What does get him off the bench is teams (like Napier, but there are others) who kick the living daylights out of his players and I have nothing but support for him in that.

But lets face it he could win the World Cup with a team of 15 year olds beating Brazil, Italy and Argentina on the way, and people would still hate him based on how he may have been 10 years ago.

I very much doubt the opinions of those people keep him up at night.

Stop Out 1 NCR 2.

Decent match. I thought a draw a fairer result. NCR's second came off the back of Stop Out defender's head.

Bill Robertson was very good.

Wests 3 - 0 Olympic. Just scored a beaut and a tap-in, and Awad had a chip from the end-line that hit the far post and went in, not sure how much he meant it to be a shot, but it is well-worth checking out when the game goes up on YouTube.

Watched this.  Wests good for their win.  For the first 20 minutes or so the Olympic bench put a lot of energy into complaining to the refs that D Edge was on the sideline.  Refs did not want to know.  Stu Jacobs particularly vocal. I would have thought that being behind the rope on the opposite touch line to the team benchs was sufficient to make the rules on a public park.  The equivalent of being in the stands.  Jacobs kept complaining that in a similar position last year he was not allowed past the club rooms steps.  I did not see Edge say anything out loud once.

Thought the ref was extremely lenient.  Was giving fouls and free kicks but no sanctions before I left with about 5 to go.  I reckon two players from both teams were very lucky to escape yellows.

I was at HNW vs. 'Rapa,

Absolutely cracking game- well worth the admission charge. Wanderers well deserved the win - their two new Solomon Islanders woke up in the 2nd half. Lots of Seasonal workers came to watch and added a huge amount of colour and atmosphere. Maybe we aren't used to that kind of support in NZ (obvious exceptions like Waiheke notwithstanding) beciase the 'Rapa keeper took exception and started calling them/us a bunch of 'F*Cking Dickheads' - well, he had shipped 5 goals by that point so...

Just to point out player/coach eligibility, is a league concern, and nothing do with the refs on the day. We only care that the subs on the bench are named, the coaches are named, and the technical area protocols are ahered to.

If teams have issues around eligibility to appear, they need to address them with capital football/league organising body concerned.

Mate I was not saying the refs did anything wrong in this regard.  In saying he was on the far touchline and behind the rope meant that he was not in the technical area and not officially taking part.  What i was getting at was Jacobs et al wasted a lot of energy over something beyond their control and should have let it go.

Absolutely, I appreciate what you were saying. Just wanted to clarify for other readers.

(Have had this happen with 14 years olds - coaches arguing with me about player eligibility and shocked that we won't act on the spot.)

In terms of identity, I did notice that comet has ID card functionality at the weekend. Would not be surprised to see this implemented in the future; understand that Australian players have id (even yoof).

stop out missed a pen.  They had 3 pens. Both double yellows for the red cards including goal keeper.

Was 1-0 until with about 15 to go. Late flurry of goals including a couple of gifts from Havelock. They looked bad. No idea how they pumped Wairarapa.

By shutting down the 1 attack they had which was Ifill pumping long, cross field balls to the opposite wing, and by the two new Solomon Islanders getting Gee'd up for their home debut by the 30 or so seasonal workers screaming on the sideline

LHAFC vs United next Wednesday 19:30

Catch Steve Coleman coaching both teams.

If anyone is at Academy training this week who can tell me what the fixed result is so I can have a punt that would be great.

Keegan released to Hutt rather than the Nix feeder club so maybe they have money on the draw too?
