Again this discussion happens every year, with the relatively same outcome. I have nothing against the players making money doing what they consider their job as players. And if PK chooses to spend his money willy billy to achieve a goal for the Wairarapa public (whether it be Chatham Cup, Central League titles etc) then good on him. And with the Memorial park upgrade on the cards, everything is looking good for the veiwing public in the Wairarapa. What bugs me the most is actually how many local Wairarapa players will feature on the new pitch? I watched the wairarapa game on Friday, and I counted 2 true locals in the team. And that was before the Watson/Biss signings. Now I know they had a great Academy set up (before the sad passing of Merik), but how many of those academy players will feature later. And then the U20 side, who done extremely well given the circumstances, again filled with non local players. What is the long term aim? And seriously, would the club be able to sustain the levels in the future?

Sounds just like Team Wellington then. No local lads on the park.

I don't understand this argument. Do you honestly think a competitive central league side could be be built from the current crop of wairarapa based players? I don't. Certainly not a title winning side. The best players who are actually living in wairarapa are all hovering around Cap 2/3 ... It's the reality of wairarapa football, it's just not as strong as Wellington. I think what you need to do is look at the bigger picture here, PKs trying to grow the game to an elite level over there, and once it's there the younger locals will grow into it and move through the ranks.

I'm off to watch Wests / Wairarapa now. Cracker day for it over here in Whitby, can't wait to see this.

Finished 1-3 to United. Watson with an early brace, first goal on 3mins, looked a class above everyone else on the pitch. United far too good. That Omar kid looking good too, a real handful, quick and hard to contain

I do agree with your statements, but how did Wairarapa really get from the lower levels of Cap Fed into Central League? With a lot more than 1 or 2 locals.
They built themselves up, and gradually got better and better and as you have stated, they had to bring in players to sustain that level. More credit to the team that keeps together and gets where they are going, or at least tries, than one that is full of players that line their pockets. Again, it's Phils prerogative to spend his own money and good on him for the interest of veiwing, but what happens when that disappears.....

we played them which I think wad their first yeah in Prem in about 2003 when they had Cossey, Nobby Stiles, a bit lump from Akld, and another import who I can't remember. We played them first game of the season at Hellena Pk and won. They did pretty average - and then went down the Island route which got them to CL. Speering has been about the only constant local I think

Pretty good game.  3-2 Oly at half time and the last in the 93rd minute.  Very young UH side contributed  fair bit and the final score was a tad unkind on them.

What they really need is an experienced head.  It is all very well for Pedro to be developing the youngsters but of the side that played tonight there could only be about four that have to shave more than one a fortnight

Marist vs  Wests has been moved from Memorial in Pnorth out to Ashurst. Ashurst pitch is a bit rough compared to memorial. Although post match feed in the Ashurst pub will go down a treat.

Don't lie to the nice people. Ashurst is a piece of shit compared to Memorial and isn't even the right size.

Really do they not have enough players at that club? Its only 4 players! Wouldn't want to play their reserves that weekend. Not fair on that side!

I wouldn't take those squads with a grain of salt. Joel Stevens and Andrew Blake aren't listed in either but are definitely first team players.  As is Daniel Bowkett. Think I'm correct in saying that Tamupiwa Dimairo is the only one to have played ressies this season.

Tam played against Seatoun the Saturday gone and another U20 lad to my knowledge was on the other wing, not sure who though... Daniel?

Yes you're right. That was Dan's first game for the seconds so would still be graded as a first team member.

Joel played for CL team last Saturday, Andrew Blake came on with 10 to go. No other u20 on park. Rest of Miramar players mainly TW players.

Interesting that they only bet LH 2-1. LH looked like a young side again. A couple of their Centre Mid players looked very handy.Big CB was a main stay for them.

Surprised LH don't appear to have any players in the u20.

Didn't Miramar have 25 players listed in their first team squad at the start of the season? Pretty sure there were a couple lolz about that on here. Easily the strongest club depth wise. Get on with it?

Would have thought Miramar should have beaten LH by a lot more considering they are all mainly TW players!!  and the depth and the money they are paying for some of them.

LH must have some good young ones coming through to be holding their own with the big boys!

Still find it astounding that this game has been postponed for 2.5 players (based on last week) Cap Footy no balls!

The way I read the rules CF could in theory have said no but in the event of a dispute NZF would have final say. I would guess that the only time CF would say no would be if it was near the end of the season and there was no alternate weekend available.

Based on the squad depth of Miramar it is a little bit annoying but they are the rules. I for one am not going to begrudge Mar for asking for the postponement. Who are we to say whether any of the four were or were not going to be in the first team squad this weekend? I'm sure Petone and any other club would have done the same had we been in the same situation.

Fair call. I can understand both sides of the argument. Some central league clubs have fairly low level reserve sides compared to others (ie. Tawa, Upper Hutt, Rapa...) so if it happened to them you would hope they would be allowed to postpone. Miramar have a third side higher than a lot of these reserve sides - but at the same time if you were to let one of the aforementioned clubs reschedule, you would have to let Miramar as well, in fairness of the rule.

It could be worse, you could be an A-League club and told to just suck it up and get on with it when you're international players are away.

Wasn't there a situation when Rapa had some players away a season or two ago but didn't release you could ask for a postponement.

I'm pretty sure they got one quite a while back when NZ (or NZ A) were playing Fiji and their Fijians were involved.

That is right. Three players were picked for NZ A at the time.
