As Frankie Mac proposed a game of the week should be named and as many people get to the game and give us their own views of what happened and how it went. This thread will focus on THE CENTRAL LEAGUE.

Wellington Untd vs Napier City Rovers should be a good one, and im choosing it vause i get get there quite easily and it seems to be a mid table clash. Both teams need the 3 points.

Heres how the weekend goes...

Saturday 2 June
Miramar Rangers       Stop Out                   __   Centennial Park
Palm Nth Marist         Olympic                      __   Memorial Park
Lower Hutt City         Taranaki                    __   Bell Park
Wellington Untd        Napier City Rovers    __   Newtown Park
Gisborne City            Western Suburbs      __   Childers Reserve

Your thoughts on the match of the week??? What should it be???

Match of the week will be Miramar Rangers  / Stop Out . Stop Out will record their first win of the season and in style. Of this I am sure. Why? Because I can't go to the match...   and don't teams always do well when you are not there??

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Gisborne vs Wests is the most interesting tie of the round, but I don't think that either of those teams have fans who post here.  Rangers vs you dirty little Stop Out will get the most banter.

ignorance is bliss aint it! i wouldnt right off United... theyve had two bad games this season which ended in 5 goals against each, but all the other games are close or winners! 8ish new players to the starting line up apparantly ... theyve beaten lower hutt and wests, only lost 2-1 to miramar. should be a good game on the w.e!

yep they have taken there chances for sure, Lhutt and Wests especially are games they can take a bit of heart from, so will be watching with interest. I understand that Ross was upbeat in the beginning of season with the new squad but also hopeful of causing some upsets. good luck to United.

United have already shown themselves to be potential giant killers with the wins against L Hutt and Wests but they really could have lost both those games.  Ross has done a great job with what he's got, but Napier are in good form and definitely confident.  David Geary is scoring at will and Chris McIvor is all class.  I think 3-0 to the Bay.

Taranaki got smoked. They must be out of their depth. Could be 7 Wellie teams in the grade next year..

Wests keeper proving very tough to beat
Goalkeeper Phil Imray produced a man-of-the-match display as Central League leaders Western Suburbs scored their sixth consecutive win, 2-0 against a new-look Gisborne City.

Imray, who shot to national prominence with his penalty shootout heroics in last year's Chatham Cup final, has kept four clean sheets in those six wins and Wests coach Matt Calcott said the goalkeeper was "absolutely outstanding" at Childers Road on Saturday.

The custodian has now conceded just four goals in nine league matches this season.

"He's getting great support from the back four, but I don't care what anyone says, Phil's one of the best keepers in the country and he's playing superbly," said Calcott, who was full of praise for his team after an early Ben Feld goal and an injury-time Dave Johnson penalty saw it take maximum points from a tricky assignment.

"A lot of teams will have a tough job up there. They've had some good players come in over the last few weeks and we were under pressure for most of the match."

There was no change to the top four after Saturday's matches.

Second-placed Miramar Rangers beat Stop Out 3-1 to remain two point behind Wests, an Anthony Neonakis hat-trick secured a 3-2 win for third-placed Olympic against Palmerston North Marist, and fourth-placed Napier City Rovers scored a 2-1 win against Wellington United.

Lower Hutt City rode roughshod over Team Taranaki - Adam Church, Mike Garnett and Roy Clarke each scoring a brace in the 9-1 rout.

THERE are five round two Chatham Cup fixtures in the lower North Island today, the best of which should be the matchup between unbeaten premier league leaders Petone and Central League big guns Miramar at Memorial Park.

In other matches, Wairarapa United host Wellington United, Olympic play University at Newtown Park, Wests host Tawa at Endeavour Park, and Marist face Lower Hutt City at Kilbirnie.

This week see's some good matchups and in my view a definative clash both at the top and bottom of the table.

First up we have Stop Out v Palm Nth Marist, where last time they met this season in the opening match for both teams, it ended 2-2. Looking foward to seeing who leaves with the spoils this time around. I pick Stop Out 2-1.

Nect we travel to Napier where the Rovers take on Miramar Rangers, this too ended in a 2-2 at Centenial the first time they met. With Napier trying to keep in touch with the other big dogs they will be looking to take a point from this game. With Napier at home a possible win, but if Miramar want to win the league they have to get some points from games like these. 2-3, Miramar might pull out another 90' winner.

A simple game for Western Suburbs v Wellington Untd, Even tho United took three point from this one last time. no surprises here, look for a 3-1, 4-1 scoreline.

Gisborne City v Taranaki, not expecting much from this game here, first time round it was a 1-1 draw but i think Giborne should take care of buisness 2-0.

Olympic v Lower Hutt City - Huge game, at newtown, cant wait. Even though lower hut kicked our ass 4-1 last time round i think we can compete for the 3 points alot better this time. Dont want to read to much into this as i Support the greeks but i think as we need to keep up with Wests and Miramar, and coming off a 6-0 win in the weekend, i belive we can win this game. Very close game maby 1-0 or 2-1.

With Lower Hutt rebounding off a loss to Marist, the O may be in for a tight one. Suburbs are putting a nice team effort together, should put united away. Stop out - Marist could go either way and Gisborne should walk away from Taranaki with ease. Miramar should build on the confidence created recently and be up by 2 over Napier.

Dont know Blew, since the Hutt came off a lost to marist their morale wont be very high, and having to visit the greek st newtown wont make it any easier. Should be a good match.

The worst thing about all this great football is all the local games clash. Wouldn't be great to stage the draw so the Wgtn home games play Friday night (wests) Sat  2.30pm  and Sun 2.00 pm for city teams until Newtown gets its lights(on the never never list with council).

interesting weekend of fixtures.

My picks:

The bubb........Olympic will beat Lower Hutt.  I think the Hutt's bubble might have burst a little bit after a good start to the season, and Olympic will be too strong.

You dirty little Stop Out will beat Marist, and record their first win of the season.  Both teams seem to be improving of late, but I think that McDermott will score the deciding goal for You dirty little Stop Out in the 78th minute from the right hand corner of the box.

Napier vs Miramar will be close one, with the Rangers have a bit too much for the home team.  It will finish 1-2, and Candy will vomit on the bus trip home 45 minutes out of Napier.

Wests will beat Wellington United easily.

Gisbourne and Taranaki will not bother actually playing, but will ring through a pre-arranged result of 3-1 to the home team.

The off field action was very entertaining.

Comments I heard were:

"Olympic's lack of youth meaning they had no boy's"  Which was followed up by "na, they are all mommies boys and cant handle the cold"

"Greeks Whine more than Poms"

and the funnest one of all
"the problem with Olympic is they have to many Greeks in Their Team" which was said in a loud voice by a woman supporting Lower Hutt.
