Central League Preview and predictions

Normo's coming home

Right all, with Capital Premier done and dusted all eyes are now on the Central League which is shaping up for a fantastic conclusion.  Wests face their first big test up against an inconsistent Gisborne side at Endeavour Park on Saturday.  When Gisborne are "on" they can beat anyone but seem to struggle to put out the same side week to week and have been unlucky with injuries.  Wests are still struggling with personnel themselves and I'm picking this to be a close encounter.

my pick: Wests 1 - Gisborne 1

Miramar play dirty old Stop Out at Hutt Park on Saturday.  Miramar have to win every game from here on in to have any chance at the title.  They are still the next best placed team and will have an opportunity to win the league if Wests drop points in 2 of their 4 remaining games.  Stop Out were hammered last week but do have some quality, Ben Kistell has scored plenty of goals in a losing outfit.

my pick: Stop Out 1 - Miramar 3

Olympic play Marist on Sunday in a game they also have to win to stay in touch.  Olympic and Napier both need to win their three remaining games and hope that Wests lose two matches and Miramar one.  Olympic do have games against both Miramar and Wests so their destiny is in their own hands somewhat.  However, first up they face an in-form Marist team buoyed by the return of Manawatu NZFC players Ian Robinson, Ian Sandbrook and Adam Cowan.  Marist held Wests to a draw last week while Olympic had the bye.

my pick:  Olympic 1 - Marist 2

Taranaki will lose to Lower Hutt, only question is by how much.

my pick:  Taranaki 0 - Hutt 3

Finally, Napier will also have to win all of its games to have any chance of winning this league.  United have struggled away from home this year, and have gone off the boil in recent weeks despite producing patches of good play, and will be desperate for points to avoid finishing last of the Wellington sides.  Napier are unbeaten since facing Olympic in Round 1 more than two months ago and are always a tough prospect at the home of football, Park Island.  They should be too strong again on Sunday and continue to put pressure on the leaders.

my pick:  Napier 4 - United 1

Give me your picks and let me know what you think.

Cheers
JD

Quality JD.

My picks:

Wests 1 - Gisborne 0 (Wests don't conceed goals)

Stop Out 0 - Miramar 3 (Eagers and Butters back for Rangers, so they will be too strong.  They will also put 9 players on Ason everytime he gets the ball)

Olympic 2 - Marist 2 (entertaining game, although the result will be soured when Lewis is ridiculously sent off - completely unjustly - for stabbing a Marist player when he is through on an open goal)

Naki 5 - Hutt 0 (only kidding - 3-0 to the Bogans)

Napier 3 - Wellington 0 (Napier too strong for mediocore Utd team)

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

Ever the optimist! Stop Out 1 Miramar 0.
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

I tell ya what I do agree with , Miramar will find it tough playing stopout as it appears it will be transferred to Te-Whiti Park. This will definitly suit them and if there are any mistakes at the back I can see that ason fellar or ben kistell pinching one or two! should be interesting.

Wests 2 Gisborne 0
Stop Out 2 Miramar 3
Olympic 1 Marist 2
Taranaki 0 Lower Hutt 2
Napier 3 Wellington United 1

WU should have thrashed Gizzy last time out. Would be nice to  take all our chances and not concede a silly goal this time. If we do both can easily win this w/e. Other winners should be Wests, Miramar (close), Marist and LH

Miramar to Spank stop out, Gissy to Win to make it all interesting, Napier and the Hut also complete shadow play to Win and Marist a win.

Wests clinical with a 3-0 victory, Miramar scrape past 1-0.  Beatifuly day for football, Olympic vs Marist could be a good match.  See ya there!

After todays results ,Olympic beating PN Marist and Napier losing to Wgtn Utd its looks like Nightz might be eating humble pie with his predication that Olympic wouldnt make the top 4.
Looking like a 3rd or at worse 4th place finish.

A dog with a bone :)

Fantastic result for our boys at Napier, always knew they had a performance like this in them. Many punters perhaps rightfully thought our lads were not up to it in this grade but alongside the spankings we've had we have now beaten Wests,  LH and Napier with Miramar still to come. Management have never lost faith in them. A  match report will be posted on our website early this week

David McCullam was the true class of the Napier-United game, the big centre back skinning 5 players (1 player twice) in a row right in front of the home crowd. Even the Napier supporters could apprciate his obvious class. New nickname: Pele Metaleca2007-08-09 07:16:00

O well this does line up one exciting finish for this years title. I would count out the greeks but we need the luck to run our way.

Its Wests title to lose now and i dont see them doing it.

Wests
Olympic
Miramar

Top three wont be beaten or changed for another couple years.

This Weeks Picks:

Wests v Taranaki - Wests to enjoy the spoils of this match. 5-1.

Lower Hutt v Miramar - Hopfully a close match, entertaining, and eventfull. Im looking for the Hutt to step up on the day and rescue a point after going 1-0 down. 1-1 Final score.

Napier v PN Marist - Napier have gissy on their backs and would want to finish in fourth spot. A cruisy win here will keep them on track. 2-0.

Gisborne v Olympic - If Olympic want to beat Miramar for the race for second they must keep their form up and bring a fight to the gisbourne side who look should look strong at home. I have faith. 3-4

Stop Out v Wgtn United - Stop out will get a point in this match after a stalemate. 0-0

Yea couldn't agree with metaleca ne more! The big centre back for Wellington United Davey Mccullum was all over the park. Had a superb game and showed more wizadry than the big guy Harry Potter himeself. New nick name: Harry Potter at Blue Water Stadium now write about that JK Rowling.

I want to point out at that Stop Out are going through a "rebuilding phase" and if they, bold prediction coming up, are outside the top TWO next season I'll be "somewhat" shocked....

Another matter, the two scores above should read in the beloved football format of HOME TEAM FIRST. It may be trivial to some but when standards start to slip...

Lastly, that's an interesting promise on the sig line of Oldys#1Fan...   is it not?

What I like about it is that it's not time constrained.  If it takes 5 years he's still committed to it.
