Wairarapa United news to date:

Fritz Tua (manager) to Miramar

Georgie B to Lower Hutt (as mentioned earlier)

Andrew Abba undecided

Fijians and Mirek Tvaroh have another year extension on Visas

Matt Borren resigned to replace Gillespie

Adam Cowan 1st team coach

Keinzley to coach Cap 4 team

Move of games to sundays at Colin Pugh Sports bowl as Masterton AFC will not hold their main pitch back from being played on Saturdays at the sacrifice of their teams because WU want to play on sundays

Things to change though as it is early days

Big effort to get the reserves promoted this year? Also, have the council sorted out the Sportsbowl?
Permalink Permalink

I wouldnt call Phil coaching the reserves a big effort mate. appearantely council is dealing with it. Im not too sure on this

Will Adam Cowan still be playing? What happened to Gillespie?
Permalink Permalink
about 15 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Cowan to still play

Gillespie been missed as Phil would like a training goalkeeper, and with Gillespie being from the hawkes bay and not training, this inhibits his ability to be that keeper.

With Cowan coming from Palmy for training, he can bring those invloved with him including Borren.

Sportsbowl ground meant to be ready, but i heard a lot of conflicting stories today, that will lift everyones eyebrows, and especailly those who didnt believe in buying the league with imported players would work.  Here comes the "i told you so's"..............stay tuned.  More to come...

where are vale going to be playing this season?
Permalink Permalink

what is the scenario, if a club can no longer sustain a central league team and chooses to drop down grades?
Permalink Permalink
about 15 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Hmm I guess, they could still do it before the season starts without too many problems. CF would see what other clubs are interested and swap the two?
I heard of such things going on in the the lower league, so I guess the procedure is there.

EDIT: Or am I talking complete bullocks? If someone's more informed, please feel free to correct me.newzealandpower2011-01-23 14:41:00

The way i see it, is, that because Maycenvale qualified for Central league, it doesnt develop a gap in the Capital Premier Grade as they are under Central Federation. (if Upper Hutt had qualified, that would produce a gap in Cap Prem). Would that mean if you were 2nd to last in Cap 1 and the Club in question pulled out of Central league and wanted to go into Cap 1, then the team that thought they were safe, gets relegated? It would happen all the way down the grades?

I would think that Taranaki (relegated), would have 1st option of staying up in Central League, then maybe Upper Hutt would be given the option. Not sure. Need someone from CF to answer this

This is a Central league thread? So it does have some relevance to those teams involved in the Central League at the moment, if a team chooses to pull out, doesnt it?

Who's pulling out of Central League then?

Fuck this stupid game

From what information I have at the moment, Wairarapa United is looking at being taken over by Douglas Villa. Management have approached Villa, and they are keen to take the reins, but at the expense of the Central League team, as they would no longer have the player base (and money) to retain these players. Options are to pull out of Central League and enter at Cap 1 level, but I somehow dont see this working either, and mto maybe lose the Cap 4 team. This in turn would bolster squad numbers for the Villa Cap 3 team. Nothing is in cement yet, but it has been confirmed that Villa has been approached to do this.

Hence the scenario....

maybe they'll do what they did to miramars capital 5 team when they moved clubs to seatoun and put them in Capital 16. Would be good for a larf.

This scenario happened a few years ago with Gisborne City.  Pretty sure the relegated team (Redsox IIRC) stayed up.
Permalink Permalink

which would mean Taranaki stay up, but that doesnt develop a gap in the lower capital grades though....someone is bound to know

Cap premier wouldn't be affected if that was the case. The only division that would be affected is the only that TT was going to be relegated to (I assume the Federation League).

I think thats his point - there is no gap for Wairarapa/Douglas Villa/whoever to slot into if they pull out? Could be wrong though.

From what i can understand, Villa/United would want to enter at Cap 1 level. No higher. I would think that maybe Upper Hutt may be given the chance to take WU place, then developing a gap in Cap Prem, then promoting another team form Cap 1 to Cap Prem, thus developing a gap for Villa/United to enter Cap 1.

Then again everything could turn to custard, and Villa could reject the offer, thus ending Wai United as a club. Or they could take it on, lose the Central league team, and just run with the Cap 4 team, as their place is secure.

I would expect the relegated side to get the first option to play in the vacated Central League slot.

Steelo: Since you uncle dad decided to approach villa.

Aitkenmike: You are right on this i would think

And the plot thickens....Captial Football have given Wai united until sunday night to make a decision whether they want to stay in Central league. Doesnt really bide well with Douglas Villa, as they were preparing infrastructure, and player numbers due to come to the club. Just another twist in the life of Wairarapa united football.

What's your prediction TSMA?
Permalink Permalink
about 15 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
My prediction is that because there has been the addition of extra funding, we may find a lot more players signed for the Central League team, and they will do away with the Reserves as a few of these main players are leaving or not playing this year (at least 8). Villa may gain these players for their Cap 3 team, but I think the way things change, its still unsure. Feel sorry for Villa in this as they have been given the run around, and until Sunday night, they are not sure which way this will fall. CF said that if WU pull out, the option for Taranaki to stay in Central league will be gievn, if they choose not to, then it will be given to Upper Hutt. This process is not an overnight one, so Villa wont know what is happening for a few weeks yet. Also, if WU are to stay, I predict they wont be there next year as they will lose 5 main players (fijians and Mirek), as they only have 1 year extension on their Visas, and thats it.

So this will mean that Kapiti dont get relegated from Cap Prems I am guessing? And Uni could end up getting promoted to Cap 1? Or will Cap football have a bye in one of the grades?

Also, under Cap Football rules can a club just have the one team, and that team be in Central League? I can see some problems if the try and call players up.

Perils of buying a team in.
