That pitch was a disgrace CT tried to play football in first half but  pitch condition was a great leveller so 2nd half they had to go long and tactic was the winning one, CT adapted  Coastal didn't . Another fact to come out of this Chatham Cup clash was Coastals lack of discipline AGAIN. First half  4 fouls Coastal & 5 CT  2nd half  12 fouls  Coastal & 3 yellows  CT  4 fouls & no cautions. If  Coastal want to develop  then put money into your infrastructure , pitches etc and then work on the top 2 inches. CT worthy WINNERS

Coastal gave as good as they could but when it came to the crunch they were out coached and out played. Coastals biggest problem is there lack of discipline, first half of Sat game Coastal gave away 4 fouls  CT 5 fouls  2nd half  Coastal  12 fouls & 3 cautions  CT 4 fouls & no cautions. Tells a story.  They,Coastal, could not adept to change of tactic and resorted to bully boy tactic but CT handles that and WON. End of story bring on Dunedin Tech

[quote=Global Game]

To be fair broonie the quality of the league is shite.
The issue is not about coastal or how many goals ctfc have scored.
I'm simply questioning the style of play - not its success. Maybe it's not a fair question for a club; but its not a good advertisement for footy or for young kids to aspire to.

i think Global you will never be a total coach if you cannot understand why Broonie and his boys played the style of football they did as a good coach can alter his teams game style to suit the opponent or expressed another way to stop your opponent from having the advantage of playing how they want to.

can spirit not header a ball or bring a aerial ball down???

to win the cup you need to be able to play all styles of football and know how to defend and also counter these different types of football.

its not always south american short passing that win's a game and winning is better than losing when it is knock out

[/quot Coastal gave away 4 fouls first half & CT 5  2nd half  Coastal 12 & 3 cautions  CT  4 fouls & no cautions. Coastal wanted to play on a shite pitch coz they thought it would be a leveller and it was but Coach Brown changed tactics 2nd half and it proved a winning move. Coastal in the end were out played and out coached. Bring on Dunedin Tech

I like how the club that has received around half a million dollars in money from the CCC, Sky, and now FIFA are hassling the quality of other people's pitches.

Yes it's shit.  We know that. Perhaps you could donate your sand-based pitch money to other clubs when you play away every second week it'll be on a decent surface.

I do like when you lads from coastal dish it out, after defeat , I'm usually a bit more humble . Nobody at tech blames you for playing at linfield , it is your home pitch , you were offered  asb but preferred linfield fair call . But your last comments about receiving money for new sand base pitch, disagree tech and Woolston well before have paid good money over the years to make Garrick , one of the best in the country so good on the good people of the committee chasing funding for a legacy that will hopefully produce good kids that can hoff it on good and bad pitches. My uncle was a good new Brighton man and bought a bond to create the indoor at bexley, great facility . You also had rangers park which cost money to up keep, so sold on

2 million plus , good legacy opportunity. Or sit on it and slag tech for being pro active about creating one

No issue with the split which is allocated based on the number of entrants

In this years comp there are 120 teams, 63 teams from the Northern Region (53%), 29 from the Southern Region (24%) and 28 from the Central Region (23%), so the split is about right.

Thanks. That makes complete sense.

For those conspiracy theorists out there, just remember there is always a non-NZF person there to witness the draw

Any statisticians?

Given a long enough period of time, it's almost certain. The Chatham cup has been going for how many years? Bound to happen at some point.

Hello there,

This chat about the Chatham Cup draw reminded me of one of the classic cup draw "issues" back in 1999, when it was decided they would do a "live' draw at a Bon Voyage brekkie for the All Whites, who were heading off to the Confederation Cup....

The following is an excerpt from Sitter! fanzine, No 36, July 1999.

To put in a plug for the old fanzine... a number of back issues can be viewed here....

Well done Bruce, I had forgotten about that one.  I remember when ........

Chatham Cup draws have always raised the ire of someone, no matter how they are done.   I can remember when I was in Wellington and in those days we did the draw, up to quarter final time, for the whole Central Region.   I had to be especially careful as I had two sons playing for Olympic and there was the inevitable call that I was favouring them, regardless of who we had sitting in as an independent witness.   As an ex Napier Board member, I was also keenly watched by other Central teams.

Probably the biggest uproar was when I used the late great Graham Moody of NewstalkZB sport fame to make the draw for me.   I abused by a couple of idiots of using a rugby man to make a football draw - it should be cancelled and redone using a football person!

The latest draw will make the Club committees happy as there will be no great scramble to arrange funding, or finding money that has not been budgetted for, to make an expensive trip.   It does make you wonder how this coincidence happened but we just make the most of it and get on with life.

Quite correct, Graeme.

Next time we catch up remind me and I will explain exactly how coincidence can sometimes be assisted.

You really don't want to see the bar options at Wakefield then.  Craft beers, 6 or 7 different ciders.
