I'm a big believer in facility standards for mpl. Although the criteria is never stuck by or unforced . The Chatham cup in other hand is a romance and is great that every club gets a chance to enter. Playing games at asb takes the romance and social side away from clubs and thier club rooms. It would be a great day at Clare park, and in cup games you play in and on what is put in front of you. And for a small club like Burwood if it means they can get extra money through a gold coin donation( even of most people are there to see tech get put out ) or sausage sizzles then great . They should be able to get advantage of playing on the pitch they play on most weeks.

CHCH - Massive upset, Div 6 Burwood beats Top of Div 1 Waimak 4-3.
The biggest underdog in the region beats last year's round of 16 finalists.

I spoke to a guy from Waimak , he said that Burwood were very good , the best team that they have

Played for then coached and managed Burwood at various times in 80s and 90s. After my time the senior club disappeared. Now living in Wellington and heard on the grapevine that they were on their way back. After hearing this result looked them up on the Mainland website and saw that after 4 games they are 12 points with 36 goals for and 1 against.
We did that is the 80s (not quite that good) winning promotion 4 seasons in a row after starting in the lower leagues. Some great Chatham Cup memories too as we came through the grades. Losing at home 2-1 to New Brighton in 1985 and the same score away to Burnside in 1987. beating Mid Canterbury (1 league higher) in 1996 at English Park and then losing 7-1 to Chch Utd the same year also at English Park, who had Danny Halligan and a young Ryan Nelsen playing. Our young mascot that day was a certain Aaron Clapham. Then beating New Brighton the following year at Bexley.
Happy memories and hopefully more to come for the current generation at Clare Park
Spoke to Murray Ralfs today, he's pretty pumped for the match, started rambling on about his previous Chatham Cup experiences and it was pretty much word for word the same as yours Walsall. Reckoned Danny Halligan ran rings around him in the midfield against CHCH United. Anyway I mentioned that there was a bit of chatter on here from what sounds like some Burwood old boys and he was keen to hear some names, if anyone wants to put it out there!

Legend of these parts. Old school Burwood man who loves the idea of his Div 6 team going up against the top of the MPL and holder of the Chatham Cup at little old Clare Park with no changing rooms, EQ damage, a dodgy pitch, two portaloos and a creek behind the goal! The only saving grace is the ball will more than likely be in the back of the net and not in the creek.

Add into that he also coached one of the clubs womens teams for a couple of seasons. His wife Raewyn has also been a long time player and club secretary.
He was made a club life member a few years ago now. I struggle to think of anyone within any sporting code who has done more for both his local club, the code and the community in general than Murray has

NZF and I don't quite see eye to eye on their round numbering. They changed things a fair few years ago, after basing their numbering on the classic FA Cup set-up for years prior, e.g. sixth round = quarter-finals, third round = last 64 teams. That system is what I've maintained right throughout Scoreboard, both in the Database area and in the Chatham Cup results area, for the purposes of continuity and integrity.
Somebody in SNZ (as they were known at the time, from memory - they've had so many name changes, as we know ...) decided we needed to be different, so to confuse matters, our QFs became the fifth round, according to SNZ and their subsequent reincarnations. As a result a preliminary round has become commonplace.
Consequently we've had a couple of years where we've had the daft situation of two preliminary rounds being required ... moral to the story - if it ain't broke, don't fix it. :-)
As an aside, a similar situation applies with the naming of NZ's age-grade men's teams. Back when we hosted the 1999 FIFA U-17 World Cup Finals, the NZ team was known as the Junior All Whites, and the next team up, the U-20s, was known as the Youth All Whites.
Next year, as we know, we're hosting the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup Finals, which was formerly known as the FIFA Youth World Championship. In between times, someone in their infinite wisdom at HQ has once again thrown a spanner in the works, cast continuity aside, and left us to cheer on the Junior All Whites once again ...
The people who go ahead and make these changes clearly have no appreciation of, in particular, the history of the game in this country, and why things are as they are. So they go ahead and make their mark ... but all too often it's a black one.
I'm not saying change isn't necessary - it is when a strong case exists for it, e.g. goal-line technology, or something which survives the rigours of the "five whys" test. But when the change is for purely cosmetic reasons, e.g. team titles and round numbers, is there a genuine, justifiable need for change at all?

In some respects though, is that not part of our issue for 'football in NZ'? For once, we are actually saying 'great, we have a new CEO that's not come from within NZ or the game and thus no politics/allegiences and everything is open. Things change.

News Flash- Chatham Cup tie between Burwood and Cashmere Technical may not be at Clare Park. Hear workers have driven trucks on pitch and have dug hole in front of one of the goals.

Pretty sure Ralph Chennery played that day for Wainui . He is still playing (in goal nowadays) and has just brought up his 400th game for the club.
Christchurch were in the National League at that stage , and had Alan Stroud in goal and Mike McGary playing for them.
