That's a slightly different take on the perfect world that is presented as Birko ? Must admit i often wondered about what happened to a lot of the kids from the U17 and U19's - you can only play so many in the first team. Forgot to mention that i was surprised to see the ubiquitous Sanni Issa turning out for Birko. doesn't fit their model. Just hope they are not "paying" him too much.
Went to North Shore v Waiheke at Allen Hill this avo. NSU won 1-0 with a penalty )no doubt about the decision) in the first two minutes. Not a lot odf cahnces - Rodic in NSU goal made two great saves in the first half , but not a lot of other chances. To be honest it was a dire game and neither side deserved to win. If it wasn't a cup tie i might have got my coat at half time. NSU played the last 10 minutes or so with 10 men after either a second yellow or straight red to NSU Number 10. Waiheke must be the most un South American , South American based side i have seen. Very direct , gave away possession heaps . Lots of tall timber - would have a useful basketball side , and would win most of their ball on their own lineout throw in. Thankfully none of the usual historonics you associate with those sides. The romantic in me would have liked to see them progress , particularly in view of the doubts re their future (import rules and coaching qualifications. Don't think anyone should fear NSU in the 1/4 final draw. Good crowd - maybe 5-600 amd the waiheke supporters were their usual entertaining selfs - flares , fireworks , drumming , chanting.Certainly more entertaining than the game - sat in the old stand and the ball disappeared from view lots of time as it went above the roof line of the stand.
Classic cup tie at Shepherds Park this avo. Auckland City won on penalties after a 3-3 draw . City 2-0 up early on and looked comfortable but Birko fought back to lead 3-2 late on. Game had everything , controversial penalty to City , sending off (Reid Drake for 2 yellows), lots of niggle , plenty of passion and a good crowd. City can probably count themselves lucky.Shoot out finished 4-1, 3 good saves by City GK. Hirst nearly saved a few of the City penalties. Great afternoon entertainment
Spot on perception of the game, thought Birko fought back well & City will be gutted they let the game turn into a ‘birko’ style game. Think city out foxed them in 90, don’t know why no changes were made till extra time… all in all good afternoon of football
Howieson way too good for this league, had Burfoot chasing shadows for 90.
Tracey cementing his spot in the side for the rest of the season with those saves & performance. Heard rumours Cam Brown had his bags packed ready at the door for the olympics..
Rough for the South Island sides both a trip that far north! Reckon Hamilton vs Cashmere is a good one as well... think both will make national league.
The sausage sizzles really get a hammering from now on then funding all the away legs to come good luck with that teams . Early practice for National League sides .
See Melville saying need $14k for 1 away cup game not sure how a whole National League round has been paid for if that’s close for 1 game (I’m sure it’s been thought about just using that figure since it’s out there ) maybe it’s going to be a same day fly Play and fly back I guess their are close to home games amongst them that will be the cheap cost matches .
I see Otago Uni have a give a little page aiming to raise $10k for their trip to Auckland.Expensive trips as they probably have to pay close to full price as only 2-3 weeks notice. That also generally precludes pokie money being available as not enough time to make an application.
Went to North Shore v Otago ni. North Shore won on penalties after 2-2 after extra time. Good cup tie and as a neutral think the better team (just) lost. Shore up 2-0 but Otago really bossed the second half . Looked very good up front - Deeley (assuming he is son of Andy ex All White and therefore grandson of Norman Deeley who won league and FA cups with Wolves in late 50.s early 60's) always dangerous. Good band of vocal Otago supporters present. Really bizaare incident early in second half . Ramsey from North Shore sent off for second yellow card. Only problem was that he hadn't received a first ! Probably should have for an incident late in the first half. After much discussion he was recalled and we saw Dakwa rushing to the changing rooms to get him back. Anyone who knows Allen Hill will recall that the changing rooms are about 100 yards away. Really bizaare and i have never seen anything like it !Anyway that was what appeared to happen and Chris Kerr the assessor may have a different view ?Apart from that the officiating was generally good.Good afternoons entertainment. Been to 3 Chatham Cup ties this year for 2 penalty shoot outs = don't like them but haven't really seen anything better. Can remember the olden days of corners !
Rodic certainly has form in coming off his line early for penalties - seen him do it often and get picked up on it. I think his yellow card was for dissent and any yellow card in the shoot out would be for persistent infringement which by definition would be more than once. I guess keepers almost get a free go for their first offence.Pleased to see the officials keeping the keepers strictly confined these days and not letting them approach the penalty taker in shoot outs
I was under the impression that the Northern Premier League is the best in the country.
It is isn't it?
Well three NPL to teams lost their quarter final including run away leaders.
Still 100% the best league. Hamilton lost their last two games 5-0 and 7-0, and Melville losing to Suburbs isn’t a shock. ACFC losing to Miramar in that fashion is certainly unexpected
Silvio Rodic the shore keeper should’ve seen a second yellow as he was called off his line in the penalties & received one in normal time.
Any predictions on the next round draws?
Nah, the instant yellow was changed last year so players get a warning now, which the referee did say to the keeper.
"If the goalkeeper’s offence results in the kick being retaken, the goalkeeper is warned for the first offence in the game and cautioned for any subsequent offence(s) in the game"

We shall all see come the National Round. If ACFC don't do much better against Miramar then then I will be surprised (but secretly delighted)

Referees are quick to get the keeper on the line and then spend 10 minutes reminding outfielders to stay out of the box. The penalty spot is already an advantage to the penalty takers.
