Wonder what an imminent lockdown means for the Cup. No game vs Miramar
There must be doubt over Cashmere Tech's home semi vs. Western Suburbs scheduled for Sunday 1 pm at Garrick Park, Christchurch too. We'll lhave to wait for a government announcement about the lifting or extension of the initial three day Level Four lockdown affecting the South Island due to expire midnight Friday..... No training possible for either side in the meantime. Cashmere Technical thrashed University of Canterbury 5 - 0 in last night's English Cup (the local Canterbury cup semi-final). Even though the government didn't require it, Mainlkand Football banned spectators from attending last night even before the lockdown commenced.
From NZ Football a few minutes ago - Southern League is considered as part of the National League:
All competitions and community football and futsal suspended this weekend
Following the government’s move to Alert Level 4 last night after a community case of COVID-19 was discovered, New Zealand Football can confirm that all community football and futsal across the country, as well as National League, Chatham Cup and NZ Football Foundation Kate Sheppard Cup matches, are suspended this weekend (21/22 August 2021).
While only Auckland and the Coromandel Peninsula are currently set to be at Alert Level 4 for the weekend, with the rest of the country’s initial three-day period set to end on Friday 20 August, due to the short turnaround time between moving down Alert Levels, and the possibility of a lockdown extension, the decision has been taken to suspend all activity out of an abundance of caution.
Daniel Farrow, General Manager, Football at New Zealand Football said:
“We never want to be in the position of suspending activity across Aotearoa but to give clubs and players certainty, New Zealand Football and our federations believe this is the best decision for the game.”
“Even if the areas outside of Auckland and the Coromandel do exit Alert Level 4 after three days, it gives clubs very little time to make the necessary preparations for activity the next day. With the Delta strain of the virus we felt it made sense to not rush this process and make the decision now to allow clubs to inform their members in good time”.
At Alert Level 4 all football and futsal activity is suspended across the country. This includes this weekend’s semi-finals of New Zealand Football’s cup competitions where Miramar Rangers v North Shore United and Cashmere Technical v Western Suburbs in the Chatham Cup, plus Coastal Spirit v Hamilton Wanderers and Wellington United v Eastern Suburbs in the NZ Football Foundation Kate Sheppard Cup, will be rescheduled.
For information on what activity is permitted at Alert Level 4 please visit Sport NZ’s website. New Zealand Football will be publishing football and futsal specific return to play guidance when Alert Level changes allow activity to resume.
North Shore have withdrawn from Chatham Cup meaning final will be Cashmere Tech v Miramar on 5/6 March venue to be confirmed (probably based on outcome of KS Cup semi finals)

Assume NZF didn't want to cancel it two years in a row and was hoping covid might be more in control than it currently is. Hard for clubs to have the same players they had last season only too.
Fact: The competition previously had only been cancelled in 1937 due to lack of entries and for four years during WW2 before it was cancelled last season for Covid.
It's amazing how COVID has been much more controlled here than in any other "Western" country... and yet even our limited outbreaks have caught NZF by surprise Matt W-S

Screen Shot 2022-02-11 at 17.56.28.png230.51 KB Clearly the riskiest part of the trip NSU would have faced would be the journey from Devonport to the airport. Presumably we can expect their imminent withdrawal from the Northern League, as the risk of contracting Covid in that region is a couple of orders of magnitude greater than during a trip to Wellington.

It’s a very convenient excuse to cover for the fact they haven’t had almost any games under a new coach, a lot of players would have left and others joined who’d be cup-tied
I know it's effectively pre season but Miramar are rank average Can hardly get out there half.
So if there is a foul and the ref allows for play to carry on and a player then has a shot at goal is that not a advantage? Surely you can't have much more of an advantage then a shot on goal...
No doubt the tackle was a foul, but what I'm questioning is he let the player take the advantage and have a shot, if shot had gone in its a goal and foul doesn't count. Similar thing happen in 2nd half a late tackle player manages to carry on ref plays advantage, player makes a poor decsion/crap pass when using advantage so the ref blows the foul...
Ok sounds like there was contact then. The (non) advantage was weird. And noticed the one in the second half too. Mason-Smith seemed to be barely in the game apart from picking up the ball quite deep.
The Covid he had probably didnt help this.🤦♂️😟 Feverish

Guessing he was just deliberating rather than playing any advantage, didn't signal for it. Calvin Berg's one of the better refs in the nation imo
That was just a terrible game of football. If that's a 'top side' surely they can get a better keeper than that. I wonder if his ring tone is Yakety Sax
In addition to the pre-match Covid withdrawals, five of the Miramar squad returned positive tests the morning after the final. And over the past week, eighteen of the Cashmere Tech squad subsequently tested positive. Congrats to NZF on hosting a superspreader eventOlympic07

20000 a day nationally represents a 0.4% positive rate. 23 cases (minimum) out of a total bubble of 100 is three orders of magnitude higher. The defence rests...much like Miramar's on the dayFeverish
