That's the chimp enclosure by Newtown - baboons are on the other side, next to Melrose.

WTF ?  What wharfies team are you watching ?  The Wests 10yo side have a more physically imposing midfield than Wharfies.

That Robbie Hunter is a bit of a tank...

Olympic remain unbeaten and have the 2nd best defence in central league. I dont see Karori causing us too many problems. They may cause an upset, however if they come out there trying to play football then they will be outplayed by Olympic. As for Miramar v Welly United, I say 3 to 4 nil win to Miramar. Hopefully United can cause an upset.

Haha I think this is a reference to a certain 'two touch tackle' right back and of course 'the spaniard'

New Zealand Football: Chatham Cup Fourth Round Preview
Vicelich up for the Cup

July 2, 2009

AUCKLAND Veteran All Whites defender Ivan Vicelich admits the 86-year-old Chatham Cup still holds special meaning for him ahead of the fourth rounds headline fixture between Waitakere City and Central United on Sunday.

The 68-cap All White has done more than most kiwis in the game, from carving out a professional playing career at home (Football Kingz) and in Europe (Roda JC and RKC Waalwijk), to winning the NZFC and OFC Champions League last season with Auckland City, and now comes full circle in a competition where he got his first taste of success with a hat-trick of winners medals.

At 19, Vicelich turned in a man of the match performance to lift Waitakere to its first of three Chatham Cup titles with a 1-0 win over Wellington Olympic in the 1994 cup final in Napier, a feat he repeated three seasons later for Central as they engraved their name on the trophy for the first time.

The Chatham Cup certainly holds some great memories for me having won it with both clubs, said Vicelich, who also part of Centrals victorious 1998 team.

It always throws up memorable games. I remember Central being two goals to Napier City Rovers down in the 1997 final in Napier and coming back to win 3-2 in extra time. It was a magnificent way to win with a lot of friends in the team and a lot of supporters making the trip down to witness the club win its first major trophy.

The 32 year old has just returned from the FIFA Confederations Cup in South Africa, a tournament for which he came out of international retirement, and while he has yet to decide whether hell be involved for the All Whites crucial World Cup playoff against Bahrain or Saudi Arabia later this year, he wasted no time in playing a pair of games for Central last weekend to blow off the jet lag and ensure he was eligible for this weekends fixture at Waitakeres Fred Taylor Park.

The cup is so full of tradition. It has a long history and its such a tough fight to get your hands on the trophy. People say the split between summer and winter has taken some of the shine of it but the players are still hungry and real football people know how much of an honour it is to win.

Also vying for a place in the quarterfinals are four-time winners Waterside-Karori, although the Wellington Premier League side face a tough ask on Sunday against an Olympic side unbeaten in the Central League this season.

On Saturday, three time winners Miramar Rangers welcome Wellington United to the recently renamed David Farrington Park, while Auckland dark horse Three Kings take on Northern League leaders Lynn Avon at Ken Maunder Park and two time winners Manurewa clash with Metro at Memorial Park.

In Dunedin, the Southern Regions leading clubs Caversham and Dunedin Tech will battle at the Caledonian on Saturday, while Glenfield Rovers and Forrest-Hill Milford meet in a Sunday cup derby on Aucklands North Shore.

Nelson Suburbs semi-finalists last season became the first team into the last eight last weekend when they defeated Christchurchs Woolston Technical 2-0 at Saxton Field.

All games kick off at 2pm.

Just saw a promo for Campbell Live tonight.  Aparently they are having a story on this year's Chatham Cup's giant killers tonight.  I'm assuming it's an Auckland team.

Miramar 4- Oranje 0 at Half time- 1-0 down to a Dom Rowe goal after 2 mins
2 goals just before half time, although, you may laugh, Oranje actually threatned in the middle of the half thru Sam Greene, but were really missing Hicham

had to take off - too downheartening

Pretty happy with that Miramar result - always good to beat Diamonds.
went to the lynn avon v Three kings game in auckland today. 2-1 to 3 kings with del Monte scoring a great winner in the last couple of minutes. A bit of an upset as lynn Avon leading the northern League and including a number of name players - Rupesh Puna , Dan Robinson (kept them in the game at times ), Craig Wyllie , Sean Devine , Nathan strom (apart from long throws, doesn't contribute much) and the most irrtating footballer in NZ - Chad Coombes.
3 kings are top of second division and are a well organised side - coached by paul marshall and i think assisted by paul temple - but nothing really special.

Wharfies/Olympic. Good game, I enjoyed it a lot.

Some helpful hints for some of those there today.

It may pay to know something about the offiside rule before giving advice to Jim Murphy.
A t-shirt doesn't provide much warmth on a day like to day.
If you get subbed standing at the back of the crowd have a cigarette looks a little furtive.
To the guy who kept telling the Olympic fans that "we are winning and you are Central League"...wait until the final whistle before crowing about the result.

Witty shout ( NOT ) of the day.
After the ref booked a player. Fan shouted "that's Capital Football for you..."
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Regarding pt 4, DF,:

Take any opportunity to can to goad the opposition supporters, in full acknowledgement that it probably won't last (the FeverZone would be bloody quiet if your point was adhered to on Phoenix match day )

In the big match in Auckland today Waitakere defeated Central 3-2. good game in difficult conditions in front of good crowd. Waitak down 1-0 at HT before going out to 3-1 lead , before Central scored with about 15 mins to go to set up good finish. however central quickly down to 10 men - Greg Uhlmann (second most irritating player in NZFC) sent off. waitak could have stretched their lead if Krishna could finish as well as he can beat a man. Best player on field for me was Waitak Centre midfielder Martin Bullock who i have never seen before. Vicelich was disappointing for Central -seemed to think that there was a new rule that you weren't allowed to tackle him!

Cracking game and good atmos out at Farrington Field.....

Unlucky Wharfies, great to be ahead at 1-0 for so long but between Fulch, the crossbar, both posts and abysmal finishing by Olympic we did well to keep the Bubbles scoreless for the amount of time that we did.

Good natured banter on the bank and a fair result in the end after Olympic began to tear the midfield apart in the 2nd half and run riot down both flanks.....

A great cup run for the Barcodes though, hold your heads high boys and focus on the League now!!!

We held to our game plan very well in the first half but did not have the legs in the second. We conceded jimmy too much space in the end. Not a bad day though. Cheers for the support

I think Three Kings might just surprise Lynn Avon. Should be good game.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Took some of the west ham boys up for the game as we had a bye aswell, Dan played rather well although needed to express himself a bit more at times. seems to have got a bit quicker than last time I saw him play
Lucky we had his grandmother there as sober driver as in true West Hamilton style we stayed at the bar celerbrating till there was no one left, the barman had to coerce us with free pies so he could go home
