the biggest football rivarly currently in wellington, as it is the cities 2 most successful clubs over the last 20 odd years (those Johnny-come-latelys Wests don't count, and Wellington United have been poor for a long time now).  Miramar take the moral high ground due to the fact that they have a home ground that they don't have to give back at the end of every game.

Attendance will be boosted by the clubs 2nd teams playing as a curtain raiser, but realistically I would imagine that there would be 300-400 people there watching (someone who can actually count might be able to provide a better estimate).

I imagine a full house at Centennial so about 500 tops. Will be a great game after the controversy in the league game. I'm gonna pick Miramar 2-1 (one will be a penalty for which Barry Lewis will be sent off for and Uncle Steve will claim it was a dive).

correct me if i am wrong but didnt mr lewis get sent off in the match at the weekend?  if so, that would mean he will be suspended for the cup game?  also i hear that another olympic player was sent as well?

shame that olympic will not be at full strength as it would have been a "cracker" of a match, and even more so with the events of a few weeks ago.

but you are right no matter win or lose, uncle steve will blame the ref for something that happened!

maybe uncle steve would like to ref this game  <<<< the ref may well need some of those!

Barry Lewis and Shaun Easthope got sent off vs Lower Hutt. I'm intrigued at the "Jonny Come Lately" comment tho. Being an ex-Wests player I do remember tales of (and being a part of) some of the following.....

1970 Chatham Cup Winners
1974 Central League Title (as Porirua United)
1996 Central League
1998 Central League
2000 Capital Premier League
2002 Capital Premier League (2nd at National League Playoffs)
2005 Central League Title
2006 Chatham Cup Winners

Although not anywhere near impressive as Miramar.....I would like to see a comparitive analysis VS Olympics history....I could be wrong tho but will still make interesting reading.

Olympic 1-0 win, only coz i'd rather Miramar not win.

Good point 12345. Its a shame Olympic won't be full strength as I can see it being slightly more in Miramars advantage now. Possible 3-1. Still, I'm sure it will be a great game with the young Greeks having something to prove. I don't think it matters if Collina reffed the game, Uncle Steve will never be happy. Its good to see such passion for their team. Good on ya Steve.

yes it good to see some passion but would also be nice if everyone was to slightly open their other eye as well, maybe just a wee bit but still......

maybe the match will end up like the U20 game in akl a few months back needing police esscorts for the miramar boys or even a chopper for the referees HAHA

bring on Saturday!!!! speaking of which it is a shame the match wasnt played on Sunday, thoughts?

Don't know if they will have a ref for this game as Olympic are very sour over all refs at the moment and don't like any of them. Can see Miramar giving them a good beating 4-1 but the  ref will be blame for 3 of the goals. Any bets on how many Olympic players get red carded!!!!!

Well, Chopper..it is not that Olympic do not like the Refs, the only thing that they are asking is CONSISTENCY. As for the good beating don't count your eggs before they hatch...!!!!

You seem to forget that Wharfies have made the B final of the Hilton Petone every year for the past 3 and won twice. Surely that must put them up there..

Last time these two teams met everyone talked about olympic having players out.Well look at Miramar -Wiremu p, Mike Woodside, Craig Alderdice, Jamie farrington,Peter halstead,Graham little.I think Miramar have it tough but again they did win last time without these players imagine if they had them....but i guess its the refs fault.

A good crowd of 500+ and this is what football is all about.Cant wait to watch.

Still don't understand why this is on Saturday, very disappointed I won't be there.

Uncle Steve and Pavlos, good on you for your one eyed support.  Every team needs its unconditional supporters.  I hope we can show the same commitment to the Phoenix cause (although the ref baiting we can probably do without).

From what I have heard Raf may be out for the next 2 weeks or so, it looks like Olympic will be a bit thin in the middle...Hopefully some of the younger players can turn it on on the day..

As for the Ref issue well you never know, Capital Football may decide to have a 4th official, now that would keep everybody in check!!!

Why is Miramar vs Olympic tie on a Saturday? Because the BIG game of the weekend is Marist vs Wests.

Seriously, Sunday will be a big day for Marist as a club. Not every day the Chatham Cup holders visit a team outside the top divisions. I think (for once) they've got the schedule just right.

Honestly, come on down to Kilbirnie Park on Sunday. You'll be welcome and you might even be surprised how well our team competes.

Agree with that comment Da Boss. Consistency can be a problem, but why does Olympic get so many reds cards. Surely the refs are being very consistent sending them off. The players need to control their emotions, but Olympic never find this easy, especially if they are losing.

Everyone in Wellington knows Barry Lewis is up for 2 or more reds a year.If he can stay on the pitch Olympic usually come out on top.Its a shame both teams are not at full strength, Raf vs butterfield would have been great to watch.

I have never seen my name mentioned so many times in one sitting, and yet am flattered.

Now let me get a cracken...

The problem with Olympic getting red cards, especially Barry, is the ref's come in with the assumption that you guys just represented here in this thread,, that Barry's going to get sent off, so the mentalitity of the Ref is... Barry souldered that guy, yellow card. Ref's are very very lieniant in giving Olympic cards as they know we are both a agressive and passive side. So soft fouls turn into cards. FOOTBALL IS A CONTACT SPORT.

I havent been supportting Olympic long, (6 years or so) and can say that even with Barry, Shaun, and possibly Raf out were still in for a good game. I can only hope the spirit lifts the team and we come up with a spectacular result, and Butterfield has a sh*tter.

Olympic has prestige, spirit, and support behind them so i would count them out untill the final whistle. Cant wait, going to be a cracker, and if olympic go down 2-0 then i think you can write off a fairtytale ending.

As much as it kills me to say this... Miramar 2 - 0 Olympic...I hope the boys can prove me wrong.

I think that is unfair Roy OfTheRovers to target Barry, He is definately a defender that gives you 150%, sometimes things can go against him, but I would rather have him than anyone else. What makes me a bit sceptical is the way that some Refs "see" him, and obviously they assume that  that every time he goes for a tackle he goes for the player and not the ball, which of course raises the question do we penalise the intent or what actually happens. We don't want to ended up in a situation where we have "wait , set, touch , engage".

To Quote Uncle Steve: "I can only hope the spirit lifts the team and we come up with a spectacular result, and Butterfield has a sh*tter."
Would that spirit be the Ouzo that the fans will be drinking?
Also, i recommend getting there early as I can see the place being full before kick-off with the certain raiser looking like a half decent game too.

yes it should be a great game.It is a shame that both the teams arent at full strength as that match up would be fantastic. I think Miramar would have to go in favourites as Olympic are probably stretched player wise and from what I have heard that also applies to the second team. weird how Olympics 2nd teams home game against Miramar is being played at centennial . anyone looking at this would have to wonder how Olympic drew Miramar at the same time there second teams draw had been changed as well. a saturday match for such a big game means al;ot of us wont be able to see the game as we are playing ourselves shame really.
In regard to refs yes a tough job but I do think that Olympic do get the calls against them more often than not. I watched the game on sunday and thought that both teams should have recieved more cautions as there were some bad tackles going both directions. personally I thought Barry shouldnt have been sent off as there was a good bit of acting in the tackle but in saying that the other sending off was just deserved.
anyway those are more 2 cents worth

Yip you re right Kiwilad, Miramar are definately the favourites to win both these games, from what I have heard the 2nd team for Olympic are having at least 3 players out with injuries as well as 4 starting players from the 1st team out either injured or suspended. Mind you looking back at the preseason game which Olympic won a lot of the current 1st team players were not involved so yia you never know. I would just love to see a nice free flowing game and we know that both teams on the day they can turn it on. Obviously I would love to see Olympic going through to the next round but it is going to be ask.
I just hope that the Olympic players leave their topsy-turvy attitude behind and really get stuck in the game and give themselves a chance.
as for the Refs yes they do have hard job to do but they must also be acountable for their actions, in most cases recently they seem to be more inclined to penalise backchat rather than foul play (remember the Naenae game...). Like I said before it woud be nice to see some CONSISTANCY.

Da Boss Im not Targeting barry, I think he has alot to offer Im just saying he gets sent off alot and that is a fact.

Miramar are by no means near full strength.Olympic 4 out Miramar 8 out.

I think its great to see so much hype about this and I know both sets of playes cant wait to play this game.

Steve Jones is missed in the Miramar first team as well.He is the new butterfield or raf he is a younger faster player.

He could only do 4.

I always thought that he was a garbage player, right back to when he was younger.  The only time he ever played consistently well was when he was at Olympic in the mid 90's - it seemed that club bought the best out of him.

I will be down there cheering on Timmy and the boys.

I am still hoping to collect Eager's autograph - I have the whole Miramar squad except his.  Every time I have asked him, he has told me to go away (in far stronger words).   Hopefully he will be in a better mood on Saturday.
