CHATHAM CUP: Sharks vs Rovers - Fever Zone comes to Island Bay.

Hey team.

So I'm keen to start to get the word out there about this.

If you went to our AGM you'd have heard that one of the things we want to do is help to promote the grassroots game. We're looking to do one "initiative" per year, and this year it's the Island Bay vs NCR Chatham Cup quarter final.

Here's what's happening:

1. It'll be a huge day at Wakefield Park, the club is going all out to make an event of it.

2. We are building a grandstand at Wakefield, to bring the Fever Zone to Island Bay.

3. We're putting out (with the club) a limited edition Shark Attack tee shirt that you'll be able to by at the clubrooms or from us.

4. There'll be Phoenix players there (we hope - working on that).

5. The Chatham Cup is awesome.

Here's a pic of the grandstand we're building on the warm up area at Wakefield:

So, start to get excited.

I suspect there won't be many shorts and tees next Sunday.

As an Island Bay (very) old boy, I think this is superb.  Even played a handful of Chatham Cup games for the Bay; nothing like this though!

Date secured in diary.  Come on the Bay!

I know, I know, its serious!

Date & time please?

(and can Wakefield truly be considered grassroots?)

Good point, maybe we should invite Sydney fans cos they are plastic!

Game is Sunday July 27th. 2pm kick off.

Danke!

Somewhat niggly but will  see if we can wangle something.

Wakefield virtually our home ground and will probably be playing there the day before or Friday.

PS FWIW I have a lot of time for IBU - having played against their teams for a few years now - I think their coaches are a great bunch (Jnr football).

To the Mayor and Councilors

Wellywood City Council

The Beehive

HOME OF FOOTBALL

SUBMISSION FOR SHARK ARENA

I am writing in support of the Shark Arena. I understand Council is seeking to gauge the level of support for the proposal and I want to let them know that I endorse the plan for the development of the stand at Wakefield Park.

I am a member of Yellow Fever. I'm a fan of the Phoenix. I'm passionate about football and I like sports in general too*. I regularly attend Phoenix A-League matches and other events. If those events were in a new, smaller, arena in Island Bay that is the right shape for football I think it would be great.

I am excited by the possibility of watching football at the Arena and I'm not alone. We will come to Wakefield, support our team, and enjoy the hospitality (sausage sizzle I hope) and entertainment on offer.

There have been some vocal opponents of the proposal. But while they might be loud they aren't necessarily right, or in the majority.

The Wellington region needs great public facilities and I applaud the Council for taking the lead with this bold initiative.

Yours faithfully

Junior82

K-Town South (massiv innit)

PS - Smithy put me up to this, it was all his idea (kudos etc., etc.)

* actually I only really like football.  Women's volleyball if I had to choose another one.

As a resident of Island Bay if they want to build a 12,000 seat stadium for the Phoenix on Wakefield Park I will absolutely support that. Fuck the kids, I'll be able to walk to Nix games.

Trisha's Pies and some good F&C shops close by too.  I'd be keen to inject some J82 dollars into the local economy (Petone - GGFd).

I've just moved to Island Bay and I oppose this grandstand. Its not financially viable (fact). There will be a loss of green space where my 8 illegitimate children like to kick their egg ball around on. Facebook protest page to come shortly...

You've had intercourse 8 times? Unlikely.

On a more serious note - do I owe you a tee shirt that I never delivered when you tried to change sizes? If so email me.

Haven't thought about an NCR shirt Nightz but if you want to whip up a design I'm happy to put it out there for you. Would be cool to have one for each team!
