Petone are doing a Central Coast Mariners trick from last year's A-League...

Just 9 goals scored in 7 games, but 13 points....big Jim has only let 4 in all year.....best defensive record in the league.

25 goals in 5 games this weekend.  cairopractors around the lower north island will be working overtime to accommadate a rush of goalkeeping patients.

He's your mate isnt he, how about you ring him and tell us.

Petone will drop to 5th after next week ends games.

JohnnyCash, Everybody else in the top 6 has no chance, there will only be one winner, Miramar.

Mar has a bunch of Age Graders and at some point they will leave for the respective camps and tournaments.  Olympics are in early August so any possible Mar players will be gone early-mid July.  When this happens they will be vulnerable with new formations needing time to gel...   Would you rather face a settled or unsettled team.  It is possibly the main threat to Mar winning the league...

Miramar has one player leaving for the olympics so far who will be missed. One. He will miss about 5 games.

Who's in this bunch you have mentioned? Only Jeremy Brookie is going to the Olympics from Miramar.

It's not going to matter,  the way they are going they  will have the league won before they go anyway

Petone are looking like a stronger team than predicted. Very similar squad to last season with the addition of big Jimmy B and young goal scoaring defender Tihou Weepu-Messenger. Makes you wonder how the likes of Tawa, Warfies, Island Bay and Wairarapa would handle the league.
I think Petone will finish in the top 4 if they can keep the current squad fit and available.

Its no longer a problem.

I think a few teams would hold thier own in CL.  especially with the addition of 1 or 2 players which would happen, thus weakening the tops teams a little and bringing the teams a little bit closer..

Don't Mar have some u20's?  And they will have camps over the winter right?

does it matter they have acres of depth somewhat like wests used to have until they started pulling in players from napier and auckland, i can't see wests having a 2nd team next seasons talking to a few players that are currently in that team.

wests will be a one team club in 2009.

sorry ill re-state that

one competitive non social team. (cap13 the sandbar pub team)
if you look back to 2005 maybe even 2006 they had teams in cap 3 cap 6 and cap 13
their only going down hill.

probably quite different state to every other club in wellington who are riding the Phoenix wave.

I think thats unfair to say that there going downhill.. They have just regained a team from Porirua this season so thats one more team than they had last year and also they won Central league last season.. I dont think its fair you assume there going down hill and i know there a club people love to hate... It is sad though that most of there first team is a team of purchased players and i will give you credit as Tawa is made up of alot of players who have played there way up through the youth into senior football...
If you did your homework you would find out that in 1970/1971 Tawa was formed and the make up of the first team were a number of players who came from Western Suburbs who eventualy got the team into Central league...

I don't see why Wests are disliked.  They have a great set up unrivalled anywhere else.  Has it crossed anyone's mind that people might go there because they play good football, have great coaches and a very professional set-up?

Are probably seen as elitist.

They have an incredible set up at the club though, couldn't help but want to play football by being involved there.

I think if you ask around the current players, they might not think its so rosey. Traditionally yes they have great resources. But as of this year its looking grim by their standards.

Yeah heard Raf got sent after 20 minutes.

Napier 5 Wests 0, WTF?! Surely a red card or 2...?

Raf got a red for a bobsled on Ben Dawson.

And no bonus for Jamie Cross this weekend.  Handing out only a couple of yellows at Endeavour Park.

From what I saw of it, Wests were a bit aimless. Should have taken the lead when Feld went thru  on his own - the result would probably have been totally different. But without a traditional centre forward (no Ryan no Ellensohn) , their play lacked the normal direction.  Wests conceded a soft second goal right on half time and never recovered.   They didnt want to play enough for my mind, I wouldnt mind a sausage off the barbie for everytime they passed back to Imray to hoof it forward.

I wouldn't recommend those BBQ sausages.  The one I had made me sick.  Luke warm and dodgy!

No denying Wests setup for sure - better than any in Welly and the region...and their brand of football is always good to watch....but got to say lately, they have not been able to string any results let alone good passes together which has been their hallmark ...

A couple of games I watched this year (Mar & Lower Hutt) they were pretty aimless and lacked the hunger to want the game!

True, they do miss someone as seasoned as Rupert to offer maturity, stability and a strong hand in the game, and also with no Sticky there are no suitable CF replacements...Mario was a good fillin but lets also give credit to the other teams like Petone, Napier etc - it makes for a more interesting season ....

who will be the "champione....champione....ole, ole, ole!!!!"???? chareimos2008-05-31 20:42:28

Petone Olympic game was pretty even until raf got sent off, then it was only time before Petone went ahead again... once they did Olympic pushed men forward for an equaliser and Sacha kept the score down with some great saves...

Olympic's goal came from the experience of raf riding a nudge in the box and then going down for the penalty..  petone's last two goals conceeded have been penalties, pretty water tight back there. No Big Jim playing either!!!

Having been at the Wests game and being a Wests supporter, it was a game of Boys v MEN.

Napier were a strong physical side, that played solid hard tackles. They intimidated the players with their pressence, with their non stop chat along the lines of harden up, when the Wsets players were looking for fouls from the ref, they would laugh at you when your pass went astray, they were in the officials ear all the time. This style of play has long been missing of late. Don't get me wrong these boys can play football as well. The big centre forward was composed when sloting home his goals. Many were from defence blunders by Wests, but i think this was caused by the fear of a Napier player being right up your date.

Don't be mistaken by the coreline about Wests attacking, they were all over Napier in the second half, with many a fine save or goal line clearence.

Lets hope Suburbs can pull it together for the Cup.

On another note i think that Suburbs get a hard deal on the number of signings they make, they are no worse than Mirimar and Olympic, in fact the majority of the team out yesterday have been at the club for some time now. Imray, Peters, Smith, Harahap, Johnston, Feld.

You are right Bonzo.  Six players is the majority of the team. Unfair to talk about them as if they have bought a new line-up.

i watched sam messam play for u23s vs nix and seriously thought he was the sub keeper, particularly when he had a poor first touch when warming up and that looked like he couldn't even really kick the ball! then he got subbed off after about 30 minutes, but apparently, the dude can score goals, crazy sh*t, he's about the same size as a house bus! lol
