Coach - applause for. (Kids footy)
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Went to watch my friend's daughter play for Marton United (Marton Wildcats) today up in Palmerston North. (10th Grade). They were 6-1 up at half  time. This is when their coach changed the team. As he said it was clear they were going to win but how would twelve to thirteen goals really benefit anyone. So he played the striker in goal and the keeper up front, the defenders in midfield....

The other team then came back at them a bit made it a little more even...

When one of the new players (her fifth ever game) wanted to come off, she was knackered, he pretended not to notice. She dug in, got a second wind, and played really well.

It seemed to us on the sideline that the kids from both teams really had a good time.

(the one for the future is a little guy named Chester...)

one thing that irks me with kids games is the unwillingness to take the foot off the jugular when a team is getting spanked. Seems to me common sense to start handicapping the winning side somehow to avoid a blood bath. I dont think its done very often however. My six or seven year old nephew won 21-0 the other week in Wangavegas. Rediculous

I coach under 14's for Welly High and we were doing pretty good the other week, at which point I made heaps of changes. I also made sure they didn't go to nuts when the game was over, one of the greatest thing a coach can teach his youngsters is humility in victory...and their parents!

Coach Hardman solves his dilemma by giving joint Player of the  Day. Each player did a half in goal.
