Never has someone so succinctly summed up my thoughts about Coerver Coaching than Jeff Stanmore did in this 442 interview: http://au.fourfourtwo.com/features/4001,youth-development-the-lost-boys.aspx

He says:

It doesnt matter how many step-overs you do or if you can make the ball disappear up your arse, if you cant pass the ball you cant play the game,

Champion.

If you can can dribble like George Best you dont need to pass.

and if you hide the ball up your arse the lino will flag you for offside.

That whole series of articles on FourFourTwo Australia regarding youth development is brilliant.

and if you can't even get to the ball ...  Surprising how many times you hear, "OK he's not fit but he can do anything with the ball"  Sorry, if he's not fit enough to get to it, he CAN"T do anything with the ball.

If you get the opportunity, get your hands on any books or DVDs by Horst Wein on Youth Development. Welll worth looking at.
