College Football
Stream managed to do the [away] double with their Rugby boys coming from 3-21 down to win it 24-21 with the last kick of the game being a penalty from 45 metres (that's assuming the field is full size, which it isn't) after some hand bags 55m out and the ref marching them ten. The Stream kicker took the penalty well under extreme pressure from the home supporters. He missed an easier conversion at 21-21 though.
Coll were definitely all over them in the front third with their big striker Hillbron a real handful. Coll seem to have a real weakness at the back when dealing with set pieces. If they can sort that out they will be a worry for most teams when the season proper starts. Their Number one goalie and best defender were both ill which wouldnt have helped.
The turning point was when their talented striker, Amir Mohamed, received a second yellow with twenty to go. He had also put the ball in the back of the net 5 mins prior only for Mr Cross to call it back for a push.
One of those games which Coll should have won but full credit to Stream for gutsing it out and securing bragging rights for another year !!
I think you will find that the majority play for their First eleven's. I know for a fact that only ONE player at Wellington College chooses to play for his club to the exclusion of his school team and that is the goalkeeper, Clarke. All the others love the school team and it is definitely their priority team.
I totally agree with you that those school days are special and they will definitely look back with regret if they reject their school's team. Less than half of the Coll team choose to play for a club but those that do, only play AFTER the school game, and usually for Cap 1 or under 21 team on Sundays.
The standard is certainly not crap in the College grade but that is a favourite call from those with other agendas !
And back when i was finishing up at school (2002/03) all the Hutt schools (except Silverstream) played weekday football, so everyone out there was playing Cap Prem/Reserve/1 as well. Same with Kapiti and Pram colleges, i know a few of those guys who played for Wests on the weekends. Wellington Coll XI were playing as Mar Reserves...

I would have to agree that your last paragraph makes perfect sense which is the reason Capital Football will probably never do it !
Totally agree with Smithy, School football (Nationally) should be a mid week fixture. Then the more talented boys can test themselves at a potential higher level at club football in the weekends. The sooner it happens the better.
This result happened last week, meaning Nayland College will need a wildcard spot if they want to make the top eight at nationals, something they've reached for the past five years.

Now that there are artifical pitches with lights there is even more opportunitity for them to play the college games during the week.
If you agree with me I change my mind.
Do you or anyone else know if College sport see any merit in what you are suggesting Smithy ? What is the likelihood of it actually happening next season in your opinion ?
In the view of my sources.
Smithy, it was only a couple of years ago that Capital Football decided it could do even less work for the exhorbitant money we pay them if they abandoned college age football. I am waiting for the gradual disappearance of junior football then shrinkage and disappearance of football altogether which they seem to be working toward.
You're confusing how it is with how it should be.
I agree it would be ideal for CF to take charge of football across the board, but it just isn't going to happen.
To be fair to them College Sport (Tracey) do a good job of running their comps though.
Zero chance. Was College Sport's idea to get rid of Wednesday comp originally and there's been no change in management or direction since then.

Rongotai beat Stream today

that doesnt happen often for rongotai!
Nelson qualify top from the top of the south. Nayland qualify second, but will apply for a wildcard in order to make reaching the top 8 a possibility.
From today's game
Pats SIX Stream 3
9 goals! jeepers
There are several national tournaments, but the only one requiring qualification is the lotto premier ("the nationals")
LOL
How could they loose to my old school
Ha no offence but the supporters were all muppets.. 1 was a 60 year old man 'yahooing', simply pathetic and embarrassing for you guys
And so MAGS should be coming first with their daily practices, recruitment of top players from round the country, your football academy etc.
Which makes the win by Rangitoto even more fantastic !!!
