Dave Farrington Park Petition

As you may know Miramar Rangers Football Club recently lost its President and long time stalwart of the club, David Farrington.  In his memory, it has been proposed to the Wellington City Council that the football ground Centennial Park, the headquarters of the Miramar Rangers Football Club, be renamed "David Farrington Park".

This proposal still has to pass through a number of Council subcommittees etc before being given full Council approval. Time is very short if WCC approval is to be obtained for the renaming of the ground by the start of the 2009 football season.

Dave, and his family, have made and continue to make a massive contribution to the Wellington football community.  Miramar Rangers have been working to get signatures on a petition in support of the Dave Farrington Park name change.

We'd like to see the Yellow Fever community get behind this as well.

Petition forms will be available for signature at the next Team Wellington game, and at our Awards Night this Saturday night.

If you would like to get a signature sheet completed at work then email me at guy.smith@ajpark.com and I will forward you the template.  Get your colleagues to sign it, and then return it to Miramar Rangers via fax (number on the sheet).

Please get the word out.

Cheers,

Smithy.

An email through from Dave's wife, Jann:

Hi Guy

Just a quick thank you for all that Yellow Fever are doing to help with the petition for the name change at Centennial Park.

Dave would be absolutely blown away by all this and is probably sitting up there somewhere saying 'na na na' not all this fuss about me.

Such a humble and unassuming man with such a huge heart....we all miss him terribly and it has been a huge comfort just knowing how many of you out there really care.

Thanks again.

Jann

Thanks to those who've already emailed through requesting petition sheets.  Come on everyone else, it's not like you're working is it!!! (News, I'm looking at you).

Any chance of bring a sheet to the awards night?

Perhaps build a new full size state of the art artificial football pitch which Wellington desperately needs and name it after Dave? Either or, I fully support the Centennial rename.

Nice idea Granville but I think they're hoping something will happen during at least Jamie's lifetime.  Which rules out new artificial pitches I'd say...at least in the current climate.
