Disgusting Western Suburbs Behaviour

I know im one to bag alot of Clubs on here before but the prize for the most ridiculous hosting of a match must go to Western Suburbs.Firstly Porirua City Council puts thousands of dollars into preparing their surface for them so they are able to rig the Chatham Cup draw to enable them to host every game up to the Semi Finals.

Then When they host the game they win comftably - fair enough. A team travels down from Hastings recieves a butt killing, heads to the club rooms - up come the Western Suburbs first team as arrogant as ever , they each get handed a bread roll they stand up and walk out - the coach
of Macenvale stands up as Wests walk out "don't worry about it well close your bar for you"

What a joke a team travels 4 hours and all Western Suburbs can do is eat a bread roll and walk away not even welcome the travling team let alone talk to them after the game. Stand ashamed Wests.

Im sure that it happens at many clubs not just at wests. Sometimes there are weekends when people have other engagements after games. We are only amateurs its not our job. Also I don't think we are arrogant at all if you knew many of the players we are far from that.

Coach Calcott and a representative of the Wilson mafioso stayed for beer, chips, sausage rolls and a chat with Park Life after the Ressies game yesterday.

Wests do have some fairly poor post-match arrangements but probably not worse than some other and certainly not because the players or coaches don't care.  More because everyone's in a hurry to get home (to Wellington) from Whitby.

Bob makes one reasonable point in amongst the bullsh*t though.  For poor old Maycenvale it would have been nice to have some company.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Wests have always done this. Never any aftermatch of any sort. Not sure whos decision it is but it is pretty sh1t especially when a team have travelled a long way for a Big Cup game.

Its no longer a problem.

Have heard that there is a protest on the wests game in regards to Ian Hogg not being eligible?

Here is the rule i found:

Club player eligibility
i. Subject to clause 5(d)iii of this Regulation 12, in all matches of this

competition, each player, except where he has played for his club during the

previous season and has not played in any match for any other club in

New Zealand during the current season, must have played two federation

competition or league games for his club or a club which is part of any

combination authorised by NZS pursuant to clause 2(a)(i) (not on the same

day)
and must have been a registered player for this club for at least seven (7)

days prior to the playing of any such matches. The qualification provided for

in this clause may be waived by NZS should the commencement of this

competition precede the first two rounds of any federation/regional league.

Anyone shed any light on this rumour? Surely Wests wont the same mistake twice!

Word goin round is that some of the under 23s boys were refusing to play because of the calibre of the opposition. And would be wasting there time.

That rule seems to say that the 2 qualifying games must NOT be on the same day.

Cant see a problem

I love playing Wests away, they seldom stick round for the aftermatch but always put on a great feed for the other team.

They all hung around after the Chatham Cup game we played against them recently.  To be fair, they'd just put nine past us, so they probably had to have a fine session for anyone who didn't score.....

Mmmm... interesting use of the word "amateur".  http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/amateur
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

umbro contracts. you can't leave the club, hardly amateur when your signing a contract
Permalink Permalink

Bob, I once signed a contract at wests and I can assure you that the only payment I got was my roll after the game (although it was chicken in those days, funds must be drying up).  I think part of the contract was also a gym membership but me and the club decided I didn't need it.  I don't think you could call me anything but an amateur footballer.
Anyway, I know a bunch of the wests 1st teamers and wouldn't call any of them arrogant.  At the end of the day these guys are just good footballers who enjoy playing the game.  Just because they are at wests doesn't make them arrogant.  If you could make the wests 1st team, play at endeavour park every 2nd week, train at ole with the good facilities they have up there, have training kit provided to you and get a few hundred bucks win bonus most weeks then you'd do it as well.
Doesn't mean you have to sit around at the clubrooms after every game.  Football takes up enough time as it is for me playing Capital 2 and I don't have to travel to Taranaki or Napier.

you don't get a payment, you get umbro gear this was brought out after you left wests 3rd team for tawas capital 2 team. the players that i know are on a one year contract but i imagine if some of those better "top" players could be down for more.
my point is how can you be ametuer when you sign a contract worth some type of bucks, all be it indirect. Sure clubs give win bonuses and some other players get more dollers than other but no other clubs in wellington make players from there first and 2nd teams sign contracts.

Obviously I didn't get payment when I ran their 3rd team but when I was in the 1st/2nd team squad they made you sign contracts.  Part of those contracts was a pair of boots and a gym membership (this was way back when Ken Cresswell was coach). They may get more gear now but the idea is the same.

When I signed mine, it was explained to me that the reason they do it is because they don't want players coming and getting the free gear, etc, and then pissing off back to another club.  Seems fair to me.  They give you the free gear, you commit to playing for the whole season.  Whats wrong with that?

Like Pretzel said, I think the contracts are just so you don't get the free gear and leave.

Thats what they have done at Stokes Valley this year

Why do you seem to dislike wests so much bob? It seems like your hurting inside for some reason? At the end of the day what are you trying to achieve by all of this speculation and rumours that you keep bringing up? Who cares if teams get contracts thats the way it should be then clubs and players know where they stand and admin can do the admin and players can do the playing without worrying about anything else.

To the best of my knowledge the following clubs have contracts that players sign:

Miramar, Stop Out, Lower Hutt, Napier City Rovers, Wellington Olympic.

And apparently Stokes Valley.

I suspect a few other upwardly mobile clubs do too, like Naenae perhaps?

It's worth pointing out that while almost everyone playing in the Central League is on some type of 'deal' they are all pretty much the same across the league - with a few notable exceptions at each club of course.

That doesn't make it a professional league in my opinion.  Very few players in any league in New Zealand could make football their fulltime occupation.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Why dont you move to Paraparaumui then its great there good fish n chips out those ways and lime bar goes off!! Chin up pal it'll all get better for you one day.

So we figured out after all that Wests aftermatches may sometimes be light on numbers but nothing out of the ordinary for many teams about the place and most of the teams have contracts of some description whether they be on a piece of A4 or from someones gob.
Must be almost the end of this discussion.
