So NWKO (I wish they'd stuck with the Swanz name!) Cup semi finals this weekend

W-League champions, Upper Hutt City in the semi-finals away to Eastern Suburbs and a team with good Upper Hutt \ Capital connection (through Mikela Hunt and Emily Morison) Dunedin Tech taking on last season's runners up, Glenfield Rovers

Eastern Suburbs (NPL – Runners Up) v Upper Hutt City (CFWL - Champions)

Madills Farm, Sunday 26th August, 2017

Eastern Suburbs had two big wins, 9-2 & 8-0, over Hamilton Wanderers and Norwest United respectively and then knocked out 3 time winners Three Kings United 3-2 in the quarter final.

Upper Hutt City survived a scare against lower division Vic Uni only winning 1-0, before hammering Wairarapa United 10-1 and then getting past Palmy Marist 2-1.

Dunedin Technical (FS - Champions) v Glenfield Rovers (NPL - 3rd)

Saturday 26th August, Caledonian Ground, Dunedin, KO 12:30pm

Recently crowned Football South champions, Dunedin Technical have never made it this far in the NWKO cup before but after a 9-1 thrashing of Queenstown Rovers, a 3-0 win over Roslyn-Wakari and a 3-2 victory over Mainland champions Coastal Spirit could this be their year?

Up against three times champions and last seasons runners up, Glenfield Rovers, who beat Ellerslie 12-0, Western Springs 2-1 and holders Forrest Hill Milford United 3-1 it will be hard but hopefully the home advantage and capital connection of Mikela Hunt and Emily Morison will see then into the final

The 45th final of the oldest Women's Trophy in NZ, The Kelly Cup, will be played at Petone Memorial on Saturday at 1:30pm

Cup holders and W-League Champions, Upper Hutt City take on last season's Central League Champions Wellington United

Wellington United will be looking for some revenge as their games against Upper Hutt City this season have ended 0-7, 0-2 & 1-5

For those who knew him, During his time coaching Ladies football

OSTEN, Trevor David:

Passed away peacefully at Mary Potter Hospice, on 26 August 2017. Loved husband of Fiona, father and father-in-law of Sheina and Hamish, Isla, and Freya. Proud grandfather to be. In lieu of flowers donations to Mary Potter Hospice would be appreciated and may be left at the service. A funeral service for Trevor will be held in the Mana Cruising Club, Pascoe Ave, Mana, on Thursday 31 August 2017, at 11.00am, followed by private cremation.

Noticed there is off and on talk about losing players going to University - where do they all end up and do they eventually come back?

Otago appears the biggest draw card. The sporting sciences, with Physical Ed 1st year intake of 300+ 

Although I note Massey Wgtn has introduced more sports science course may slow the trend. Auck n Chch with engineering draw a few as well.  IMO

The issue isn't so much the numbers, it's the calibre of players leaving. It's always the older star players that are leaving. So not only do you lose all the ability, you lose the experience (it's weird to talk about 18/19 year olds as 'experienced', but it's the reality of the league).

Some of them come back. Tessa McPherson came back to Seatoun this year, for example. However, the reasons probably have more to do with "life" than football. If you're serious about "making it" as a footballer, coming back to Wellington long-term is moving backwards. And if you're not serious, you just play for fun, where you play should be somewhat irrelevant...

Well Dunedin seems to being alright there out of Wellington with some good quality players. 

What is the football like down there currently? - doesn't sound like a place where you would improve as a player and the footage from the Knockout Cup looked a bit raw in terms of playing style.

I'd spoke earlier this year to someone (Male, admittedly) who surmised that the quality of the (mens game, at least) in Dunedin was much poorer than Wellington, and he was glad to be back up here.

Bit hard that is, not super great for the clubs that develop the players or the players themselves. Seems like a good chance for a club in Dunedin to try and do something a bit different.

As something of an aside , Briar Sargent played her 200th first team game for Upper Hutt this year. Quite an achievement in either Mens or Women's game.

OK game, Upper Hutt were 3-0 up at half time and it seemed sewn up, Wellington United had plenty of the ball just didn't create anything 

Thought Wellington United's Jemma Robertson had a great game, keeping Sarah Gregorius in check

Serena Murrihy is back from WaiBOP

Rosie Wild from University

Only one I don't know is Emily Stotter

With Sarah Gregorius, Micky Robertson, Klara Gronevik (who has played professionally in Sweden), Maggie Jenkins & Emma Main there are some pretty good attacking options

no idea but maybe she trialled and deserved to be picked? If she didn't then I guess it's a calculated gamble

A cracking wee player, Stotty. A player I rate, and one who I'm sure would have enjoyed far more opportunities in a NZ shirt but for ill-timed injuries - she really had bad luck on that front, which left her more than a little disillusioned for a while.

Great to know she's back on the scene. I'm looking forward to seeing her in action again - defo someone I wouldn't hesitate to put in Capital's starting eleven, looking at that squad. Quality player and person.

Anyone heard anything about the decision to move Prems/Div 1 to Saturdays? Would be bloody disappointing if they did it, would gut the coaching systems of a few clubs.

there are serious logistical issues with extra Sat footy as you can imagine. Been waiting to hear from our rep on the WAG..

Vic Uni has appointed Alex Brodie as women's 1st team coach for this year, if anyone cares.

Vic Uni Men's 1sts Player of the year last season, plays in the Wellington futsal team and involved in coaching in some capacity with women's futsal.
