So they can default every week? yeah that'll be great for the leagues (limited) credibility!

Leave their name in there with 3-0 losses every week. How is it any different to having a 5 team league - the bye just has a different name? Only credibility that gets hurt is, rightfully, Stop Out's.

I was also under the impression that they had enough players, just not the quality so no one is forcing them to default.

they haven't taken the decision lightly obviously. They are hardly going to get women put their hand up each week to get double figure wallopings. CF are in the business of keeping clubs intact - not ripping them apart.

Should've made the decision long before this point. I'm not saying they have to play, they're welcome to default everything. There shouldn't be a spot available for them in Prems if no one wants to go up though - the league is full (unless something has changed that I'm not aware of). It would be unfair to the existing teams to make an 11 team league.

they won't be making room for them in the league, their reserve team got promoted last season so the W-League players will just play in that team

Totally. Stop Out MUST play W-League, they have the players. Valeron survived for 2 years and they've never pulled out from Central League until they couldn't find players. Again too late, they have the numbers so play W-League.

I thought only Rapa was being promoted for some reason - must have got that wrong. Rapa won the first half then came 6th in the 2nd! IBU won the league in the 2nd round and their 1sts and 2nds from last year have swapped places. Stop Out were 5th in the first half but by getting 2nd in the 2nd half they earned promotion. Splitting the league into 2 rounds is bloody stupid

Well, all power to them then. Disappointing that they've done this but not a lot anyone can do about it at this point. Just sucks for the other 5 teams in the league.

thought it was based on the final placings in 2nd round of Div 1, Island Bay came 1st and Stop Out 2nd, Rapa only 6th hence Island Bay come up (replacing the IBU Sharkettes) and Stop Out get the second place

Maybe winning the first half also qualifies for promotion? I'm unsure. Tawa definitely relegated though. Div 1 was reset after 9 games last season, with Div 1 having relegation but no promotion. The 2nd round for Div 1 had both relegation and promotion. Rapa finished 1st in the 1st round but 6th in the 2nd round - probably not enough for promotion? Guess we find out when the draw is released next Weds.

In Prems I'd expect:

Wellington United Res

VUWAFC

Waterside Karori

BNU

IBU

KCU

Petone

UH Res

Stop Out

Western Suburbs

W-League would then be:

UH

WU

Rapa

Seatoun

Palmy North Marist

pretty sure its the second half of the season that counts all leagues below Prem have pro/rel half way through the season and then at the end of season. only diff is Div 1 where they can't get promoted at half way point

teams line up looks right, although whether or not Upper Hutt City will be in there remains to be seen

oh SO came second to IB in round 2 (I was looking at round 1) . I guess the fact they are at least in Prem had an impact on them choosing to withdraw.

Yep they are moving down the rankings

Very interesting. Meanwhile, we've had one withdrawal from the NRFL Women and at least one, probably two withdrawals from the Conference (next level down) here, even after Conference Reserves were abolished.

Some people say that the concentration on youth in women's footy has (a) pushed the 20-somethings and 30-somethings out of the competitive levels; (b) put too much pressure on the young ladies who then give it away as soon as they realise they're not going to be Ferns or pros or whatever. I don't know enough to comment.

Yeah ... add the huge push on football ... players are starting to get burnt out - and young. Too much of a good thing. We need variety to keep things fresh. Never mind the fact that Futsal and Football overlap - despite being run by the same organisations targeting the same people...

yeah I think the spectrum of what players want out of the game is spread pretty wide and thin. This  need to be accounted for in the competitions.

I'm hoping to write an article for Enzo's blog one day on my experience as a woman player who started as an adult trying to find a club where I could push myself and get decent coaching. Not everyone who's not a 18 year old wonder girl is happy playing in the Old Grandma's Drinking Club grades.

Not sure I buy this one. I mean no disrespect to stop out, but you could hardly describe their W-League team as yoof or development focused. They we're primarily a social team last year I would suggest.

I understand why Vic and karori turned down the option, but they are better compared to Seatuon in terms of quality imho.

What's going on with Upper hutt's cap prem team? Do UH intend playing their new U18 team in a lower grade than women's cap prem?

Womens Cap league is a joke tbh.  Should of left it as a CL womens comp.  Capital bossed the situation by the sounds, apparently to offer bette development opportunities for capital players.   Well that isn't happening in a 5 team league where 3 go ok and 2 struggle.

Well done capital footy.   You asked for it and now the league is uninspiring, limited in quality and lacks following.  The pathways for women players across the lower north island also limited.  clap clap

Looks like Wests have accepted the open W-League spot. There is an open trial this Wednesday.

"The Women's Central League is set to kick off the weekend of April 7th and 8th. Due to the fact that Western Suburbs was granted a place in the league at the last minute, Western Suburbs Football Club will be holding open trials for any and all women over 15 - 16 years of age interested and capable of participating in the 2018 Women's Central League.

Western Suburbs is predominantly seeking women from the Wellington region with an interest in improving their football over the course of the 6 - month club season calendar and with potential aspirations of playing the game at higher levels in the future: Central League, National Women's League, U.S. University, etc...

Details for open trials are:

When: Wednesday, March 28th from 7:30 - 9:00 pm

Where: The Olé Football Academy Artificial Turf (Changing / shower facilities will be made available for trialists).

Directions To Olé Football Academy:

Olé Football Academy, 22 Upper Main Dr, Porirua 5022.

If you use Google maps, it will likely take you to the old entrance which is currently closed due to construction. One must now enter Olé through Raiha St.

Signs will help direct you the rest of the way!

If you wish to attend trials:

Please RSVP to Western Suburbs Administrator, Jo Todd (juniors@westernsuburbs.co.nz) no later than 6:00 pm on Wednesday, March 28th."

That will need to be a vastly different team that they were in cap prem. If ole are involved, could change some things in terms of attracting players...

Let's hope the club can do something about the referees room being the same space as the  ground level female players toilets at Endeavor..

I think Ole will be shooting to attract all the 15/16 old who are in the cap prem with their clubs, on the fringe of the W-League, if they can attract them to the trials, that is.

Maya has a mentioring relationship with Ole, and you don't tend to buy  into the Declan philosophy because your goals are focused on getting to a world cup.

Besides , if the WC selectors are choosing players based on where players teams are in a table, they're doing it wrong.
