done well to build our profile with a great set-up and attract players to/keep players in the club. Old, young, and returnees. Obviously a new team straight into Prem isn't your usual induction - but we are keen :)

Island bay out of Kelly Cup can't field a team, Prems could be back to 7
Where exactly does the U18 comp fit into all of this mess? I had a game last year where island bay started with 10 players, one of whom was injured.
Didn't IBU and Seatoun have some sort of player agreement last year? What's happening at IBU?

yes there was an "arrangement" between Seatoun and Island Bay last season. I understood the idea was to allow Seatoun to take IBU players in to the W-League (a pretty massive step) I think one player did go that way, but IBU seemed to play quite a few Seatoun W-League players when they came up against Wellington United Sapphires and BNU
really should have merged
Kelly Cup kicked off the season on Saturday
results
North Wellington 0 Waterside Karori 3
Petone 5 Stop Out 0
Vic Uni 4 Wellington United Sapphires 1
Vic Uni 2nds 0 Seatoun 6
Waterside Karori 2nds 0 Palmerston North Marist 13
Wairarapa United 0 Wellington United Diamonds 4
Western Suburbs 8 BNU 0
Our score against Seatoun was inflated by not having a goalkeeper available, but they were by far the better side, as expected.
Quite annoyed at the fact that we'll have rolling subs during the season, but can't during preseason. I know its the Kelly Cup but kinda defeats the purpose of preseason a little.

Maybe because the W-League won't have rolling subs during the season?
But I agree, I am sure if there were a vote, it would be rolling!

I agree too.
If W-League clubs want to not roll subs they could choose not to, but some players in other lower level teams struggle with the 90 minute stamina thing.
If I ran the world I'd probably make it W-League teams not rolling subs, lower level teams rolling. Would go a little way toward giving lower level sides a leveller against height competition for this sort of pre season competition.
However, football is run by footballers and you 'don't gotta be bright to be a footballer'

Yeah just a bit ridiculous that I can make only 2 subs in our first game as a team, when we've announced the squad 5 days earlier. Not sure how I'm supposed to even pretend to compete. However, also not sold that different teams should compete under different rules. To me it makes sense to have rolling subs in preseason, full stop.
Also likely won't be able to field a team this weekend because we play Sunday throughout winter so half the team went and got Homegrown tickets (before it was announced that Prems teams would play Kelly Cup on Saturdays).
Yet another all round shark show from Capital Football, yet to meet someone who works there with 2 brain cells to rub together.

raise your points sure - but don't be a arse
the Kelly Cup has a prestigious history. It has morphed in form over the last decade - and I'm sure they will look further at changes like rolling subs given it is now a preseason tournie and contains reserve teams.

I think that is a harsh call, sure it is hard to please everyone but there is some good staff. For me as a referee personally, Jamie Cross is excellent to deal with.
Being a Prems team six of my players work Saturdays so very difficult to get a good look at players before season starts, and yeah homegrown has taken out another three this weekend, now that we are down to mostly prems in the second grade why can't these games be played on Sundays, and dare i suggest it rolling subs.

Always comes across as an old boys club and if you know them your requests get granted, if you don't then you're shark out of luck. Multiple broken promises and often straight up lying or changing their minds about things already agreed. As a whole, incredibly unimpressed with the service that the players play an unreasonable amount for.

If there are a few clubs this way then maybe you need to talk to each other and discuss what you would like and go as a group to Capital Football and ask for change. If all you've done is complain here then they can't change what they don't know.

wasn't meant to be a complaint ,just adding to the thread, maybe CF could think about it next year,Kelly Cup is Saturday and plate is Sunday, i know CF have been approached and there response to Sundays was no we promised clubs WLeague would always be Saturday.
you don't have to be registered for HP so clubs and players get a chance to see if its a good fit for both, but females don't get that chance with KC

While that is true, Hilton Petone isn't Capital Football run like Kelly Cup but Petone Footballs competition. What you really need is a women's preseason tournament like Hilton or Petone to expand their Hilton to include women's teams (Seeing as they have a women's team too)
yeah but im sure CF wish HP was theirs with the way it has grown, so why not copy it and keep control.

The winners from Saturday play the next round of the Kelly Cup, the losers are now playing for the Executive Plate (actually how the Kelly Cup used to work quite a while ago). I'm also guessing that you're not aware that if the game finishes in a draw it goes straight to pens.
Grounds would probably be an issue on Sunday as the Hilton Petone is on then (although I'm pretty sure they could make it work if they really wanted to)
Travel also a factor for Palmy Marist - they have a "home" draw but the game is at Alex Moore

Looked like Cricket was still going on last weekend, so would think availability of non-astros prevent much more happening on a Sunday. For the early Hilton kickoffs I've had, both Maidstone & Memorial were in use by their respective clubs youth prior.
Fwiw, I am not a great fan of rolling in women's prem. Yes, some clubs use it to give good playing time. Others faf around to slow down the flow of the game for tactical reasons.

sorry I read that as you seemed unsure as to why there was a split etc
doesn't have anything to do with rolling subs
in all honesty, If you are playing premier league you should have a team fit enough to be able to play without rolling subs

Is that the league that can’t get enough teams to enter?

We will have a team fit enough, however we only had trials a week ago (students have just come to Wellington) and we'd had one training session together before the game - some players have had a full preseason but a good number have only just arrived in Wellington.
I only found out we'd been entered in Kelly Cup 5 days before the games (that ones not on Capital Football though, that's my/the clubs fault). There's a solid chance we'll be defaulting on Saturday at this point because my team have other commitments on Saturdays that they can't change with a week's notice (and I can't expect them to forgo Homegrown tickets they've paid hundreds for before they knew we were playing, among other reasons players can't make it).
The point of preseason is to build fitness, work on combinations and assess players in different roles, all of which are harmed by non-rolling subs.
I actually think Prems should be non-rolling but if they're going to have rolling then preseason should be changed to match.
I prefer rolling subs you can't ask players to pay $100-$200 to sit on the bench, 14 players you can guarantee at least 60 mins every week.
know alot of young players made it to WL squads sat on the bench for a year and then hung up the boots, rolling subs in WL would also work, there isn't the numbers in womens to just let these girls walk away.its not about fitness its about creating a model that works

W-League allows 5 subs from 5 on the bench.
And I think most W-League players are getting their fees written-off by their clubs. I know for sure at least two clubs where they are.
5 subs but how much time does sub #5 get all the way to PNM for five minutes, oh don't worry will give you 10 minutes next week at Rapa

Nature of first team football. They should make it 3 subs again.

make it a three team league while you're at it
